Ch.1: Secrets
Charlie propelled herself through the salty water, her friend Angel Dust swimming quickly behind her.
"Charlie, are we sure this is a good idea?" Angel questioned. "I mean, I get that you think these humans are nice and all, but like, isn't this still super dangerous?"
Charlie huffed, looking over her shoulder at her friend. "I told you Angel, she's nice! You'll like her."
"I dunno Char, if you dad ever found out you're seeing a human-"
"Well he doesn't know! And it's gonna stay that way. Got it Angel?"
"Yeah, yeah . . ."
When they arrived at the sailing ship, Charlie splashed over to it, hopping into one of the emergency boats and tugging on the ropes.
One of the people, Husker, who was mopping up the dirt and grit on the ship floors, noticed, and walked over to the rope. He peered over the edge and saw the young princess, and grinned down at her. "Heya Charlie! Who's your friend?"
"Oh, this is Angel. Pull ups up, will you Husk?"
"You got it! Hey Vaggie! Visitors!"
Husk heaved the boat up as Vaggie walked over. When the boat was completely up, Vaggie smiled, scooping up the murmaid and pressing her lips onto her cheek. Charlie giggled.
"Hey sweetheart, who's your friend?" The human asked.
"This is Angel Dust, although I just call him Angel." Charlie replies as she watched her friend look around, his eyes wide with wonder.
"Wow." He whispered, then yelped when Husk picked him up out of the smaller boat, putting him down on a barrel.
"Sorry," he said, lowering the boat back down, and Angel panicked.
"Charlie! They're trying to trap us up here!" He flopped on the floor of the ship, flailing. "We've gotta-"
"Angel. Realax." Charlie told him. "It's okay. You're fine. They always do that, when we're ready to go we will."
Angel's breathing slowed as he calmed down, now embarrassed. "Oh."
"Don't worry, you're good." Husk assured him, picking the broom up again and continuing in his mopping.
"So," Vaggie said, setting her girlfriend down on another barrel. "How are you?"
"Good, now that I'm with you~" Charlie smiled. "Though my dad's been watching me like a hawk, that's why I haven't been around in so long. But hey! How've you been?"
"Good, good." Vaggie replied.
"Ummmmmm, so, when are we going back to the castle again? Didn't your dad want you there for some kind of meeting?" Angel said.
Charlie stiffened as she realized that she'd completely forgotten. "Shit!" She exlaimed. "Oh fuuuuuuuuuuck, I'm late to the meeting! I'm sorry Vaggie we have to go!"
"It's okay, go on. I'll see you later." Vaggie stood up, scooping the murmaid up into her arms and walking over to the edge of the ship. She gave her girlfriend a quick but loving kiss before Charlie leapt down into the water, Angel Dust following.
"Bye Vaggie! Love you!"
"Love you too hun!" Vaggie called as she watched the two dive down into the water.
Charlie pushed through the water, her tail beating as she approached her kingdom, and headed into her father's palace, where he and her siblings and the other sins were probably waiting.
"Finally!" Mammon hissed bitterly when Charlie swam into the room.
"Charlie, where were you?" Lucifer asked, his eyes narrowed.
"Um-"
"Well we were exploring the coral reef!" Angel lied. "And uh-well there was this shark! Yeah, and it came at us, we managed to get away but then this annoying seagul comes along and is all 'this is this, and that is that'-"
"SEAGUL?!" Lucifer exploded, and Charlie shot her friend a dirty look. "YOU WENT TO THE SURFACE?!"
"D-did I say seagul?" Angel laughed nervously. "Oops! What I meant was-"
"Don't even." Lucifer growled at him, and Angel's mouth snapped shut as Lucifer turned his glare on his daughter. "Charlie you know the surface is forbidden! Do you not remember how we lost your father?"
Silence fell upon the room at the mention of Charlie's deceased parent, even Mammon frowned, looking away as Lucifer calmed himself down. "Sorry." He muttered. "I didn't mean to yell, Charlie. But please, I don't want to hear about you going to the surface ever again, understand?"
Charlie just nodded, and sat down at her spot at the table, her older sister Amara gave her a sympathetic look.
