POV Lee Know

I step out of the car, accompanied by Felix and Changbin, my two best friends. I grab our suitcases and stretch with a contented sigh. We've been on the road since 7 a.m., leaving Seoul to spend our vacation at Yuigahama Beach in Japan. I glare at Changbin once again-something that has been happening frequently since this morning.

Lee Know: Honestly, I'm never trusting you with vacation planning again. We've been traveling for ten hours, and now my back is all stiff. You owe me a massage.
Changbin: Or I could give you one myself.

He wiggles his eyebrows suggestively, making me grimace.

Lee Know: I'd rather die. Last time you gave me a massage, my back hurt even more. I'd rather ask a stranger. Look at that group of three over there-the one in the middle is kind of cute.

I point at the group of three to my friends, focusing on the guy in the middle with blond hair.

Changbin: Meh. I prefer the one with the blonde streaks.

Lee Know: What about you, Felix? Looks like the one with blue hair has his eyes on you.

Felix blushes slightly, noticing that the group is indeed looking our way, and one of them is staring at him.

Felix: Uh... okay... let's just go to the hotel.

Lee Know: Yeah, you're right. Let's go.

We grab our luggage and head to the hotel. After checking in, we each receive our room keys and head upstairs.

Lee Know: Meet back here in 20 minutes?

Changbin: Yup, and then we're getting wasted.
Felix: Okay, Minho and I will, but you? No. Last time, you got so drunk you couldn't remember anything.
Changbin: Uh, yeah, whatever. See you soon.

He heads to his room, probably feeling a little embarrassed. Felix and I go to ours. I open the window and smile at the view of the beach. Without realizing it, I start looking for the guy from earlier but sigh when I don't see him. I turn back into the room and start unpacking my things. I put on some swim shorts and change my t-shirt before heading into the hallway. The other two aren't out yet. I frown when I spot the guy from earlier. I start walking toward him, but suddenly, I feel a weight on my back. The guy turns to look at me, blushes, and quickly walks away. I groan softly.

Lee Know: You scared him off... You're so annoying, Binnie.

Changbin: Don't worry, we'll find him again.
Felix: Come on, there's a bar nearby that looks nice. Apparently, they even have an open mic-we might get to sing.
Changbin: Eating and singing? I'm in.

I chuckle softly. He'll never change. But I have to admit, I'm not against the idea either. Together, we head to the bar Felix mentioned. When we arrive, we're disappointed to see the sign says it's closed.

Changbin: But we won't get to eat!

Lee Know: Relax, we'll find another place.

We head toward another bar, although this one doesn't have a music stage. We decide to go in anyway. Once seated, Changbin turns to me.

Changbin: Well, your crush is staying in the same hotel as us, so that's already a win. And he might even be on the same floor as us. Maybe if you describe him to the staff, they can help you find him.

Lee Know: Absolutely not. I'm not going to look like a stalker.
Felix: Minho's right. I think it's better to wait until we run into them again.

His cheeks take on a slight pink hue.

Lee Know: Careful, you'll end up matching your pink and blonde hair soon. So, if you're blushing like that, does it mean there's someone you like? Is it the guy who was staring at you earlier?

Felix starts to blush even more.

Felix: I... Uh... Well, he's cute...

Lee Know: Alright, we'll try to find them again sometime.
Changbin: They're outside...

Felix and I both turn our heads at the same time, only to sigh in disappointment as we see them leaving to go somewhere else. Watching closely, I notice that the one I'm interested in is pushing the other two forward to make them move.

Felix: Maybe it's not what you think...

Changbin: Yeah, maybe he didn't even see you.
Lee Know: Hmm... I'm sure he did...

The server comes to take our order and returns shortly after with our drinks.

Changbin: Come on, let's enjoy our first night as graduates.

Lee Know: Yeah, you're right...

I smile softly at them and toast, though my heart isn't really in it. Seeing that handsome blond leave affects me more than it should.

I wake up having barely slept. I spent part of the night crying, unable to shake off the disappointment from seeing that guy leave. I meet Binnie and Felix in the hallway to head for breakfast. When we arrive, they both notice my slightly red eyes and that I don't seem well, but they don't comment. We eat quickly and gather our stuff to head to the beach. Once there, we set up our things, and the two of them head off for a game of beach volleyball while I stay on my towel. I pull out my notebook dedicated to songwriting and begin working on lyrics for a new song. After a while, I decide to take a break, put the notebook away, and lie down. That's when I see him walking past me. I bite my lip, watching him, when suddenly a volleyball hits him in the back, causing him to stumble and fall-right onto me. His lips brush against my neck, sending shivers through me. I blush and immediately glare at Binnie.

Changbin: Oops, sorry, I didn't know my strength.

The guy quickly moves off me, his face as red as mine.

Guy: I... Uh...

He gets up and walks away hurriedly. Meanwhile, I keep glaring at Binnie.

Lee Know: What the hell were you doing? Now it's definitely over.

Changbin: Calm down, Minho. I have info on him.
Lee Know: Hmm... What kind of info?
Changbin: Well, first of all, his name is Han. And according to his friends-Seungmin, the one with the blonde streaks, and Hyunjin, the one who was checking out Felix yesterday-Han thinks you're cute too. But he's really shy. Yesterday, when I jumped on your back, he thought we were a couple. And at the bar, he saw you but made his friends leave because he was afraid of being embarrassed in front of you.

I blush more and more as Changbin goes on.

Felix: So, here's what we're going to do tonight. We're going to the bar with the open mic stage. They'll be there too with Han, and that'll be your chance to talk to him.

Lee Know: Yeah, but what do we sing? And what if he doesn't want to talk to me?
Changbin: Don't worry, his friends will help. And we could sing The View.
Felix: Or Surfin'.
Lee Know: Alright... Oh, by the way, I wrote a new song. It's called Star Lost...
Felix: Do you want to show it to us?

I lower my head shyly. Even though they're my best friends, I always feel nervous about showing them my lyrics, especially since this song is deeply personal.

Lee Know: I... But we haven't practiced. And you don't know it... And we're a group.
Changbin: Who cares about that? You wrote this song. If you want us to adapt it as a trio, that's fine, but if you want to sing it alone, it's your call.

Lee Know: But... I...

I burst into tears and run off. My lack of self-confidence overwhelms me, and performing solo terrifies me. The thought of singing in front of that guy, who already throws me off balance, makes it worse. I slide down the side of a hut and bury my face in my arms, sobbing. I jump when I feel a hand on my shoulder but relax when I realize it's Felix.

Felix: Go ahead and cry. You need it...

I start crying again as he pulls me into a hug.

Lee Know: I'm scared, Felix... I'm no good...

Felix: That's not true. Binnie and I have told you before-you're amazing, Minho. And if anyone thinks otherwise, they're just idiots.
Lee Know: Hmm...
Felix: Trust me. Can I ask you something?
Lee Know: Yeah?
Felix: Did you write this song thinking about Han?
Lee Know: I... Uh...
Felix: Would you feel more comfortable if I stood next to you on stage while you sang it?
Lee Know: But what if he laughs at me?
Felix: Nothing says it's about him. Listen, it's your decision, but if someone wrote me a song, I'd be happy.

Felix: I know. Or we could record the song and ask them to play it tonight as a surprise. Then you can see Han's reaction in real time.

Felix: Minho and I are going back to the hotel. I'll let you know if we're coming back. In the meantime, enjoy yourself.

Felix and I return to the hotel. Once in my room, I grab my guitar and notebook, then start playing to practice. When I finish the song, Felix claps, making me blush.

Felix: It's beautiful.

Lee Know: Do you think he'll like it?

Felix: I'm sure he will.

Lee Know: Okay, I'll do it again. Will you record me?

Felix: Of course.

Felix starts recording as I begin to play. When the notes reach my ears, I forget everything else. The outside world no longer exists; it's just me and the song. I only come out of my bubble at the end of the song and blush lightly as Felix claps for me.

Felix: I think this is the one.

Lee Know: You think so?

Felix: Absolutely, don't worry about it.

He grabs his computer and transfers the file. He plays it back while I, embarrassed, cringe at hearing myself sing.

Lee Know: It's terrible... I need to redo it.

Felix: Minho, it's not terrible; on the contrary, it's amazing. I know it's hard to believe, but everything your parents said about you was wrong. You're an incredible person, you're beautiful, and you sing so well. Plus, you have an amazing talent for songwriting.

Lee Know: Hmm... You're the only one who thinks that.

Felix: No, Binnie thinks so too. And I'm sure Han does as well.

Lee Know: He avoids me like the plague...

Felix: Minho... He's probably just as shy as you are.

I look up as Changbin enters with Han's friends, but Han himself is nowhere to be seen. I sigh softly, disappointed not to see him.

Seungmin: Hey, I'm Seungmin. Listen, Felix is right, Han is extremely shy.

Hyunjin: Yeah, that's true. But since yesterday, all he talks about is you. He wants to talk to you but doesn't know how to.

Changbin: And yesterday, he left because he was afraid he wouldn't know what to say.

I blush lightly as Binnie pulls me into a hug.

Changbin: I'm sorry about earlier; I shouldn't have pushed him onto you. I just wanted to help.

Lee Know: It's okay, I understand.

Felix: Alright, let's find you a nice outfit so you'll look twice as handsome tonight.

I blush softly.

Lee Know: Uh... Yeah... But I don't want to overdo it.

Changbin: Don't worry, you can never overdo it when it comes to a guy.

Felix and Binnie get up and start rummaging through my suitcase to find an outfit. Seungmin and Hyunjin, meanwhile, seem a bit awkward.

Lee Know: By the way, I'm Lee Know, but you can call me Minho, it's easier.

I give them a small smile. They seem nice, and I hope things work out with Felix and Binnie.

Lee Know: Where are you guys from?

Hyunjin: Seoul. You three too, right?

Lee Know: Yes. How old are you?

Hyunjin: I'm 21.

Seungmin: Han and I are 20.

Lee Know: Alright.

Changbin: Found it!

He hands me a turquoise shirt I packed. It's tight-fitting, and I blush, realizing I mixed it up with another similar-colored shirt when packing.

Lee Know: It's too tight; there's no way I'm wearing that...

Seungmin: Then go shirtless. After all, it's at the beach, and Han won't mind.

Lee Know: No, that's even worse. I'm ugly and fat. People will make fun of me.

Felix: Wait here...

Felix leaves the room, and Binnie pulls me into a hug to calm me down, sensing I might have a panic attack. Eventually, I manage to relax in his arms. I can see Seungmin and Hyunjin feeling awkward after witnessing the moment. I'm about to say something when Felix comes back into the room, holding a new shirt he hands to me.

Felix: Here, this one should work.

Lee Know: But it's your shirt...

Felix: I'm lending it to you; it looks better on you anyway.

Seungmin: Um... Minho, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable...

Lee Know: It's okay, don't worry. I just... don't have much confidence in myself.

Hyunjin: I know my opinion might not change much, but from what I've seen so far, you're an amazing person. I know it's hard to believe, especially coming from someone you barely know, but I really mean it. I used to feel the same way, so if you want, I can try to help you.

Lee Know: Yes, I'd like that. Thank you, Hyunjin.

Hyunjin: You can call me Jinnie if you'd like; it's easier.

He gives me a reassuring smile.

Lee Know: Alright, thank you both. That's really kind of you. Okay, I'll go try on the shirt.

Binnie hands me the shirt and a pair of swim shorts. I head to the bathroom and put them on. I smile despite myself in the mirror. For once, I don't find myself completely horrible. I return to the room to show the others, and they applaud when they see me. I blush slightly and try to shift the focus.

Lee Know: What about you guys? What are you wearing?

Changbin: I'm wearing a tank top; I don't want to overheat on stage.

Felix: I'll wear my yellow T-shirt.

I turn to Seungmin and Hyunjin.

Lee Know: What about you, Seungmin?

Seungmin: Probably a tank top too. And you can call me Minnie if you want.

Lee Know: Okay.

I smile at him.

Hyunjin: I'll wear a blue T-shirt.

Lee Know: Alright.

It's finally time. Bangchan, the owner of the bar, invites us to go on stage after introducing us. With a bit of apprehension, I step onto the stage, but Binnie and Felix take me into their arms, just like before each of our performances. This gesture might seem trivial, but for me, it helps me calm down. We settle on stage as the first notes of Surfin' play. Once again, as I start to sing, I forget about the outside world. I'm in my bubble. Even the people's gazes on me no longer matter or stress me out. I only come out of my bubble when I hear the applause filling the room. I blush softly when I see Han looking at me with admiration. I turn to the others so we can sing The View, another one of our songs. I'm once again transported into my bubble, thinking only about the lyrics of the song. Once again, it's the applause that brings me back to earth. I turn my head upon hearing an admiring whistle and see Jinnie and Minnie pointing at Han without him noticing. When I turn to look at Binnie, I see he poured a whole bottle of water over his head to cool off. I look at Felix and notice he took off his t-shirt because he was too hot, which seems to please Jinnie. We leave the stage and join Han's group. Bangchan gets on stage to make an announcement.

Bangchan: Now, we're going to play a song called Star Lost. The person doesn't dare sing it, but wants to share it with someone special. I hope this person will like the song.

He plays the song I wrote. I'm still scared. I don't know if Han will like it. Felix squeezes my hand discreetly to give me courage.

Hyunjin: I really like this song.

Seungmin: Yeah, me too.
Han: I wish someone would write songs for me...

I blush gently as the song ends.

Changbin: Come on, let's go swimming, I'm too hot.

Hyunjin: Alright.

We all agree, then head toward the beach. On the way there, I turn to Han.

Lee Know: I wrote the song... Thinking of you...

He blushes softly upon hearing my words.

Han: I know, I saw the lyrics earlier when you were writing. I couldn't help but peek, but you didn't see me, you were so focused.

Now it's my turn to blush. We all reach the beach, and once we're in our swimsuits, Binnie looks at us.

Changbin: Last one in the water has to do a dare!

We all start running, laughing, as the race begins. When I'm in the water, I see that Han is the last one to enter. Minnie smiles at him.

Seungmin: Kiss any one of us.

Han blushes and looks at us one by one before walking toward me. He places his hand on my cheek and kisses me gently. When he pulls away, I turn bright red.

Lee Know: Uh... I... I need to do something...

I go back to the beach and grab my things before leaving. As I pass behind the bar, I see Bangchan and Jeongin kissing and doing more. Jeongin is pressed against a wall while Bangchan's hands are on his buttocks. Bangchan also has his mouth in Jeongin's neck, leaving kisses there and even biting him occasionally, which seems to please I.N based on his moans. I end up leaving even more depressed, thinking that this kind of thing will never happen with Han since he kissed me out of obligation. I head back to the hotel and grimace when I realize I have Binnie's room key. I text him to let him know to take my room for the night. I go to bed and fall asleep quickly.

POV Han

I return to the hotel accompanied by Jinnie, Minnie, Binnie, and Felix without saying a word. I felt bad for making Minho uncomfortable. I wanted to go see him, but his friends told me to give him some time alone to think, which I did, though reluctantly. If it were up to me, I'd go join Lee Know. Once in front of my room door, I desperately search for my key card but can't find it. I sigh, not knowing what to do. Since Jinnie and Minnie are sharing a room, I didn't want to disturb them. I head to Lee Know's room, the only one I know. I knock on the door and am surprised when Changbin opens it.

Changbin: Is there a problem?

Han: Oh... um... I lost my key card and I can't really disturb Jinnie and Minnie since they're sharing a room.
Changbin: Oh... I didn't know they were together.
Han: Ah, no, don't worry, Seungmin likes you just as much as you like him, but they had no choice but to share a room.
Changbin: Lee Know accidentally took my key, it's room 212, just a little further down.

I blush and thank him before heading to knock on room 212. I wait a few moments and smile softly when I see Lee Know open the door with a sleepy expression. Just as I thought I would have to explain myself, he simply opens the door to let me in.

Lee Know: I heard your conversation with Binnie.

Han: Minho?
Lee Know: Yeah?
Han: I want to get to know you better...
Lee Know: There's nothing to say, I'm not interesting...
Han: I'm sure that's not true. I know you sing well, you write well. You're also really considerate with your friends. And you're cute.

I smile softly when I see him blush.

Han: But despite all that, I know you've suffered in your life. It's none of my business, but if you ever want to talk about it, I'll listen.

He breaks into tears and buries his face against me. I wrap my arms around him and gently rub his back to comfort him. Seeing him like this breaks my heart. Lee Know: It's my parents... They always criticize me... All the time... They hate music... They ignore me and despise me because I'm gay...

I tense up upon hearing his words, which he notices as he looks up at me.

Han: That's bullshit. You're perfect.

Lee Know: No one's perfect.
Han: It's true that you have one flaw - you don't believe in yourself.

He leans back against me as I continue to comfort him. Unconsciously, my lips rest on his neck. I blush when I see him shiver and he pulls away.

Lee Know: We should sleep...

Han: Okay, I'll sleep in the chair.

The truth was I wanted to sleep with him, but I didn't want to make him more uncomfortable.

Lee Know: No, I'll go.

Han: No way.
Lee Know: Uh... there's only the bed left...
Han: If you want, I'll stay on one side of the bed. Unless you want a cuddle.

He blushes gently before getting back into bed. I get in on the other side, leaving a little space between us so I don't make him uncomfortable. He turns off the light, and I'm surprised when I feel his arms wrap around me and his body press against mine to cuddle me. I smile softly as I see him do it.

Lee Know: I need a cuddle...

Han: Okay.

I place my hand on his head and start massaging it to help him relax. I smile as I hear him sigh with contentment and his breathing slow down, signaling that he's falling asleep. I whisper a "Good night, Minho," to which I get no response because when I look at him, I see that he's already asleep, a small smile on his face. I fall asleep shortly after.

I wake up the next morning and smile when I see Minho still sleeping in my arms. I send a message to Jinnie asking him to order breakfast for room 212, to which he responds affirmatively. Fifteen minutes later, there's a knock at the door. I try to gently pull away from Lee Know's arms, but he groans in his sleep and snuggles closer to me. I eventually get up, lift him in my arms, and carry him to the chair before going to open the door. I pick up the tray and smile when I see that Hyunjin has ordered a lot of food, but I blush when I notice a red rose on the tray. I feel arms wrap around my waist and smile when I see Minho.

Lee Know: I thought you left...

Han: No, I asked Hyunjin to order breakfast for us, I didn't want to wake you up.

He blushes softly as his gaze lands on the rose. I can tell from his look that he's hoping. I take the rose and give it to him.

Han: Here, it's for you.

He blushes and takes it. I can see that he's happy with the gesture. I don't say anything more, I love seeing him like this. I return to the room with the tray and sit on the bed.

Han: Did you sleep well?

Lee Know: Yeah. But I cuddled you all night...
Han: Doesn't matter, you needed a cuddle. Come on, eat, the others will be here soon.

He nods as we begin to eat and chat. I smile, realizing that this night has brought us closer. We finish eating and I chuckle when I notice he has Nutella on his cheek.

Han: Wait, you have Nutella on your cheek.

I lean in to wipe it off. Once it's gone, I look at him softly. I see Minho blush when he notices me staring at his lips. I lean in, wanting to kiss him when the door suddenly opens. I quickly pull away and sigh softly when I see the others enter.

Changbin: We have your stuff.

Félix: Binnie, I think we interrupted them.

Minho and I both turn bright red. I don't want to say anything to avoid making him uncomfortable. He doesn't say anything either. I'm disappointed but try not to show it.

Lee Know: What do you want to do?

Changbin: We're going shopping.

They hand us our clothes. I turn to Minho and look at him.

Han: Go change in the bathroom, I'll change here.

Lee Know: No, come with me. But can you turn around?

Han: Okay.

I go into the bathroom with Minho. I close the door, and I'm surprised when he kisses me, but I don't pull away and respond to his kiss. He eventually pulls back and I can see that he's embarrassed.

Lee Know: Sorry...

Han: It's okay, Minho.

He turns away from me and gets dressed. I do the same.

Han: It's okay, Minho.

He opens the door and goes back to the room. I do the same, and we all leave the room together. To get to the city center, we take the bus, and I sit next to Minho. I take his hand in mine and make circles on his hand with my thumb, which makes him shiver. I bite my lip and keep doing it. I'm not sure what I'm trying to do, but I want to show him that I care about him. I notice Binnie, Minnie, Jinnie, and Félix looking at us and pointing in a way that is anything but subtle. Minho doesn't notice, his eyes closed. I take out my phone and text Hyunjin, thanking him for the rose this morning.

Felix: "Don't worry, he's asleep. He won't react if we talk."

Hyunjin: "Did he like the rose?"

Han: "Yeah."

I look at Minho tenderly.

Han: "He kissed me earlier... I'm scared he'll regret it."

Changbin: "I don't think so. He likes you."

Seungmin: "You should try to get closer to him physically."

Han: "What do you mean?"

Seungmin: "Touch his butt, kiss his neck..."

Hyunjin: "But what if he feels like Han just wants to sleep with him?"

Felix: "It's a risk, but in that case, don't wait too long to tell him how you feel."

Han: "Alright. I think I'm going to start spending the nights with him to get closer to him."

They all nod in agreement, and Minnie signals that the next stop is coming up.

Changbin: "Don't wake Minho up. He'll be in a bad mood. Just carry him."

I blush but pick Minho up in my arms like a princess nonetheless. We arrive at the mall, and he still hasn't woken up. We enter a store, the others head off to look for clothes, while Minho stays in my arms. But I don't mind-it's the last thing I'd want to change right now. I head toward the fitting rooms to sit down. Once seated, I look at him tenderly. He looks like an angel with his perfect face and purple hair. I sigh softly; I want Minho to love me as much as I love him. I feel him stir on me as he starts to wake up, but the way he moves presses against me, making me slightly aroused. It must be noticeable because his eyes shoot open, and he turns to look at me, making me blush.

Han: "Sorry... I didn't mean to wake you."

Lee Know: "It's okay... Where are the others?"

Han: "In the store."

Lee Know: "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to stop you from shopping."

Han: "I don't mind. I like having you close to me. Your presence calms me."

He blushes and leans back against me.

Lee Know: "I like being close to you too..."

I smile broadly at his admission and kiss his head softly.

Lee Know: "Tell me about yourself, Han."

Han: "Well, my name's Han Jisung. I'm almost 20. My only real friends were Jinnie and Minnie. Well, they were, because now I've found three more. At least I hope so. That's about it."

Lee Know: "And your parents?"

Han: "Never around."

Lee Know: "I'm sorry..."

Han: "It's okay. I'll invite you to my place when we get back."

Lee Know: "Where do you live?"

Han: "Seoul. You do too, I've seen you before."

Minho blushes at my words.

Han: "I've seen you on stage several times before..."

Lee Know: "Oh..."

Han: "I don't blame you for not recognizing me. We've never spoken."

I softly kiss the corner of his lips just as the others come back. Felix and Hyunjin smile warmly at the sight of us like that.

Felix: "Hey, sleepyhead, you okay?"

Lee Know: "Yeah."

Felix: "We're going to try things on. You guys staying here?"

Lee Know: "Yeah."

I smile at his response, which touches me. I'm happy he wants to stay in my arms. I chuckle as I see Binnie and Minnie go into the same fitting room, followed by Jinnie and Felix. Minho laughs too, and damn, I love his laugh.

Han: "God, I love hearing you laugh or seeing you smile..."

Minho blushes deeply.

Lee Know: "That's not true; my laugh is awful and weird."

Han: "I like it. Actually, I like everything about you."

Lee Know: "You're the first person to ever say that to me..."

Han: "I'll keep saying it because you deserve it."

He blushes even more and tries to reply, but the others emerge from the fitting rooms at that moment. We spend the next ten minutes with Minho approving or rejecting outfits, laughing the entire time. Once they finish trying things on, we leave the store. Instinctively, I take Minho's hand, and he doesn't pull away-quite the opposite. We continue shopping, trying on all sorts of things, except Minho, who doesn't pick anything.
