TWO
taehyung was jotting down notes that their history teacher had written on the board.
a kid behind him kept throwing tiny pieces of paper onto his desk and the kid's friend next to him kept throwing them at the back of his head.
he tried to ignore it since he was used to it but it was almost impossible.
the teacher saw what was evidently going on but she didn't scold the boys or offer taehyung another seat.
this was a day in the life of kim taehyung.
step one: go to school.
step two: study way too hard.
step three: get tormented.
they were supposed to be angels but some people in his city definitely didn't act like it.
taehyung hated the fact that he got harrassed for doing something so simple, something he had no control over.
being born.
so trivial yet it was obviously reason enough for the people in his society.
you see, it wasn't just his classmates.
in heaven, everyone knew everyone even if they had never spoken once before.
and so, even people on the street who had never even exchanged introductions with taehyung gave him judging stares.
sometimes he really wished he could dissappear.
one thing taehyung was greatful for was that he wasn't banished to live among the humans.
or worse: the demons.
history class, the class he was currently sitting in, had always been his least favourite.
i mean, school wasn't fun for taehyung at all, it was more like slave labour that he forced upon himself.
but, that aside, history was still the most grueling to him.
not because of the teaching style, having difficulty with the content, the exams or anything like that.
it was what they taught.
to taehyung, parts of angel history didn't really add up.
on earth, humans have the theory of the christian creation story, the theory of the big bang that pairs with the theory of evolution etc.
however, the angels seemingly had no origin story.
their teachers didn't teach them about where the hell angels came from and so, in turn, taught them to believe that they just somehow appeared out of nowhere.
99% of people just accepted that and moved on with their lives but not taehyung.
taehyung was a curious person.
and the creation story of angels and demons was a curiosity that plagued his mind constantly.
taehyung was interested in demons in general but he knew barely anything about them.
they weren't taught about them, no book on them exsisted (at least, not one that was available to regular angels like taehyung) and even talking about demons could get you a weird look on the street.
the only thing they had were the ancient laws that they still live by that state:
"no angel shall consort with a demon. you shall not taint your generously gifted purity by stirring your life into the mixture of underworld matters."
which basically meant:
•demon = bad
•angel = good
•don't ever go on a roadtrip to hell
angels and demons mixing and mingling was avoided at all costs as if it'd be the end of all things if the two species ever crossed paths.
the only ones that could meet eachother were kim seokjin, the most angelic of all angels, and kim namjoon, the most demonic of all demons, plus the other angels and demons that shared their power such as royal secretaries etc.
but that was only because they were important figures and had to meet for political matters which only happened once every year anyway. and, even then, they'd make sure to keep a clear distance between eachother.
taehyung often pondered over meeting a demon.
he wondered what they were like.
probably extremely evil. he thought.
i mean, it was a fair and pretty accurate assumption.
hell was an unruly place.
no place for an angel, much less an angel like kim taehyung.
although he daydreamed of meeting the species he was forbidden to, he'd never actually go through with it.
he wasn't about to break one of the most important laws of his kind.
his exsistance itself was a crime so why would he make it worse for himself?
not to mention, the stories and lessons about demons and the underworld scared the shit out of him.
according to a rumour, the first thing you hear as you enter hell is blood-curdling screams, crying for help, and the first thing you feel is cold hands grabbing you and pulling you downwards.
so yeah, that was enough for taehyung to steer clear of the demonic.
as the kids behind him continued to pester him, he heard his best friend (and only friend) park jimin threatening the guys who were picking on him.
"stop it!" jimin whisper-yelled.
"what're you gonna do about it shortcake?" he snickered.
"do you really need to ask that? i already got detention for breaking your friend's finger that one time. so do i need to demonstrate how to crack a metacarpal bone again? do i need to restrict your hand movement too? i mean, i'm sure all you do in your free time is jerk off so i'm sure it'd be tragic for you." jimin hissed.
the boy immediately hushed and went back to his work with a five year old sulky face and his friend, the one who's finger was still recovering, did too. i mean, he didn't want his broken finger count to go from one to two over a couple paper balls.
jimin smiled in a sarcastically sweet manner before looking back towards the teacher.
you see, as i've mentioned lightly before, jimin was a little different to taehyung.
actually, a lot different.
he was an angel of kindness so being a sweetheart was in his blood but somehow he managed to go against his own genetics sometimes.
i mean, he broke a guy's finger, for god's sake.
he was a lot more daring and risk-taking than taehyung.
one thing that he and taehyung had in common, though, was their fascination with demons.
and, unlike taehyung, jimin wasn't scared of them at all which kinda worried his best friend at times, not wanting jimin to do anything stupid that involved hell and it's inhabitants.
oh taehyung surely was in for a storm...
as the final bell of the day rung, taehyung finished writing his last sentence before packing up quickly, briskly walking out of the classroom as soon as he did so.
he waited outside for jimin, getting a few dirty looks from girls passing by but paying no attention to them.
as soon as jimin walked out he grabbed taehyung's hand excitedly and pulled him around a corner where no one could see or hear them.
"ok, i have some thing to tell you but you have to promise not to freak out..."
~in the underworld~
jeongguk was walking through the corridor (yes, sigh, there is still school in hell) as people roughly pushed past him.
jeongguk had the same problems as taehyung at school.
bullying, torment, blah blah blah.
however, this is straight up hell we're talking about.
in heaven you'd get shoved, left out, glared at, called mean names and get things thrown at you in class.
although it was still bullying and still wrong, it was quite elementary style.
simply because although angels had the ability to be disrespectful, no angel was downright evil.
down in hell, it was a different story.
their form of bullying was ganging up on people, physical and emotional abuse, harsh words & cursing, humiliation.
it wasn't all teasing games here.
"hey freak! when's your suicide scheduled again? i'll make sure to mark it in my calender as a special date!" someone called out to jeongguk as he passed by, the guy's friends all laughing at the malicious comment.
jeongguk let out a shaky breath.
not shaky because he was about to cry or because he was afraid.
no, it was shaky because his whole body was trembling with anger as he tried to stop himself from turning around and bolting at the guy.
so maybe jeongguk had some mild anger issues.
and by "mild" what i actually mean is completely out of control.
he also had what humans on earth would diagnose as OCD, which definitely did not help with his anger.
he had to walk in a certain way and step on certain lines in the street, he had to lock his door three times in a row every day, he was constantly tapping, counting and repeating words under his breath.
these small symptoms frustrated him because he hated that he did them but he couldn't help it. he impulsively did them without even thinking and if he ever did stop himself he'd go crazy thinking about it for ages until he finally gave up and allowed himself to give in.
his bigger impulsions like locking away all the kitchen knives, moving everything in his personal space until it was "just right" for him, touching things constantly and repeating things three times because it was his lucky number made people think that he was a whole freakshow.
and considering the fact that anger is an OCD symptom, it made his extreme anger even worse than it already was.
even though these guys were supernatural beings, things like disorders and mental illness were still a thing.
they had flesh and blood along with emotions and impulses.
their species were pretty much just humans with wings and powers. aside from those two things, their only other difference to humans was that certain characteristics were engrained deeply into their dna.
on earth, if you were too agressive you could take medication, do breathing excersises or meditation, see a therapist and so on. however, in the demon realm, if you were a demon of agression then there was nothing you could do to stop that urge.
and jeongguk, being half demon of wrath, was constantly turning to violence in order to try to shed his unbearable anger.
at least he wasn't unprovoked. all his violent outbursts happened as a result of constant torment.
he continued to walk in a perfect straight line, stepping on the lines as he walked and backtracking when he missed one.
"hello! awh, are you ignoring me ggukie?" the guy said sarcastically.
jeongguk simply snapped his fingers in a specific rhythm over and over again. something that helped him with his anger sometimes.
i'll give him one more chance.
i'm calm.
i'm chill.
i'm-
"hey, look at me when i'm talking to you weirdo!" the guy shoved jeongguk's back.
i'm not chill.
jeongguk whipped his head around before pushing the guy harshly, walking into him while looking straight into his eyes, causing the other male to back up with each step jeongguk made towards him.
"if you say one more thing, i'll dismember you and arrange your limbs into a heart shape on your mother's doorstep after i attatch your wings to my rooftop on a flag pole." jeongguk growled, his eye slightly twitching as he clenched his fists.
his knuckles were white and his nails had his own blood from his palms underneath them.
he was trying so hard not to lay his hands on the kid.
jeongguk was made to be angry. he was made to be violent. 50% of him was pure wrath. however, jeongguk constantly tried to go against his own dna. he tried to fight the urges.
but, at the end of the day, it wasn't his fault that he enjoyed to watch people suffer.
the guy let out a shaky breath.
yeah, in his case it was a scared breath, unlike jeongguk's.
gguk knew that his oppenent was terrified even though he did a very good job at hiding it. he couldn't hide it from jeongguk. jeongguk could practically smell fear.
it was his favourite fragrance, after all.
the dude's friends behind him were simply watching the scene along with the bystanders who had noticed the commotion.
"really, huh? well i would expect nothing less from your psychopathic ass." the guy sneered.
"i'm not a psycho but i can be one just for you baby, if a death that's more on the painful side is what you'd prefer." jeongguk smirked, a sinister glint in his eye, making the younger boy gulp.
just as the other guy was about to talk back and jeongguk was about to grab him, the latter got pulled away by a short and pale upperclassman.
"oh no you don't. we are not getting involved in a killing on a friday afternoon, fuck that." the small boy yawned.
"but yoonie~ he was-"
"i know he was out of line but i'm not gonna explain another one of these senarios to your mother." yoongi rolled his eyes.
this was the ninth time this month that yoongi had to drag jeongguk away from a fight. whenever yoongi wasn't there, crazy shit would go down.
yoongi's boytoy and jeongguk's best friend, hoseok, would usually help out but he was being homeschooled for half a year, his last week of it was nearing.
because hoseok was a demon of greed, whenever he wanted something he'd ask for it and expect it to be given to him automatically no matter what it was. if he was denied then he'd simply take it and if they didn't allow him to take it easily then he'd use force.
he didn't necessarily enjoy being so selfish but it wasn't his fault.
he'd been this way since kindergarten. snatching toys away from other kids left, right and centre.
the reason kids like him weren't usually a really big problem is because demons of greed were one of the minorities in hell.
he was getting particularly bad with his constant snatching and arguing so his parents pulled him out of school for six months.
jeongguk couldn't wait for his best friend to return to school.
oh how he loved wreaking havoc with hoseok.
yoongi wasn't concerned with all of that and was also way too lazy for that, being a demon of sloth. not only that but he was diagnosed with mild narcolepsy last year which didn't help with him constantly wanting to sleep.
"my mum doesn't give a shit and you know it." jeongguk rolled his eyes.
yoongi sighed, "she really does care about you, jeongguk. you have to give her a chance to actually show it instead of just complaining that she doesn't."
jeongguk simply tsked and allowed yoongi to lead him away.
yoongi changed the subject to something that he knew would be more interesting to jeongguk's ears.
"me and hoseok are going to taipan tonight. you coming?"
taipan: an underground youth club that turned more into a night club over the last few years.
"fuck yeah." jeongguk replied.
he hated school because of bullies and hated home because it left him alone with his mind so taipan was where he spent a lot of his time with his two friends.
he still got harassed at the club too however it was significantly less than school which he appreciated.
and so, the two boys started walking to hoseok's house so they could laze around until they could sneak out at midnight.
meanwhile, back in heaven, a certain angel was listening to his friend's craziest idea yet...
