NINETEEN
(a/n: sorry in advance for an spelling errors or typos, i'm still getting back into the swing of writing lmao :P)
when our two angels had successfully made it into the library once again, they set out on a quest for information, unlike other occasions where they came solely for their little expeditions to the underworld.
now that they were actually looking at the room and not simply rushing through to get to the portal, they had a moment to take in the scenery.
the bookcases went all the way from the floor to the ceiling and each shelf was filled to the brim with books, no gaps in sight. the books themselves were bound in various colours of leather, the most common colour being a burgundy hue, and the spines had titles and embellishments pressed in gold and silver.
the place was practically blanketed in dust which shouldn't have been surprising, given how long the place had been shut off.
they skimmed through at least fifty-odd books but found nothing special in terms of the information within them. most of it being things they already knew or things that didn't seem very useful (demon anatomy, psychology, laws of the underworld and so on, none of which subjects being particularly outstanding to either jimin or taehyung).
"you seeing anything yet?" taehyung called out to jimin who was at the other end of the isle.
"nope, absolutely nothing. nothing worth our efforts, at least." jimin sighed.
"cmon, there has to be something in here. this room is literally attached to a real portal to the underworld! there's no way none of these books have anything important in them." taehyung was determined to get some sort of information.
after another five to ten minutes, when jimin was getting noticeably bored, a loud bang resonated throughout the room.
taehyung shot his head over to jimin who had an apologetic look on his face and a book at his feet which he had obviously dropped.
"keep it down! we're gonna get caught." taehyung whisper-yelled.
"sorry! i wasn't expecting it to be so heavy." jimin apologised, carefully picking up the extremely heavy book.
it was the first (an presumably the only) book that was bound in black leather. it was absolutely huge and each of the pages' edges were lined with gold. the spine of the book was decorated with extremely detailed, gold illustration.
after gazing at the spine of the book, jimin looked to the front to read the title but was met with confusion. he flicked through the pages and was met with the same confusion.
"hey, this is in the same language that the words at the top of the portal are in." jimin called to taehyung, knowing that he knew how to read it.
taehyung strolled over, eyes widening at the sight of the book. without even reading it, he could tell that this was exactly the kind of thing they were looking for.
he sat down next to jimin, transferring the book to his own lap.
από όπου ξεκινά η ιστορία: the title stated.
"where the story begins." taehyung translated. "the entire book is in greek."
"you think this is the one?" jimin questioned.
"i think so." taehyung nodded.
"then we should get out of here before we get caught and take it with us." jimin popped up from his seat on the floor, urging taehyung to get up.
they shoved the book into a backpack to make it both easier and less conspicuous to carry before leaving the library the same way they came.
~the next morning~
taehyung, being the curious bookworm that he was aswell as an angel of intelligence, had already read the first half of the book by noon the next day.
and, trust me, what he found was definitely worth the risk they had taken.
the origins of their two species.
billions of years ago, angels were created and placed here by the gods to live, thrive and serve in this universe.
and the species did just that: thriving for hundreds of millions of years.
until one particular era.
the king and queen of this era were the first couple to ever have such divergent views and, because of these starkly different political views, the first ever divorce had fell upon the royal household.
the king wanted things to stay exactly as they were for the angels, he wanted things to stay good as they always had been since the beginning of time.
the queen, however, was not on board. she wanted rebellion, she wanted chaos, she wanted evil. the first angel in existence to ever crave such things.
traditional angels stuck by the king, wanting things to remain as they were. on the other side, the rest of the angels sided with the queen and her passionate speeches of rebellion and uprising.
the political split between these two sides caused anarchy within the entirety of angelic civilization.
the king suggested that a leader be chosen between him and the queen. this choice to be made by the people, democratically.
the queen knew she was outnumbered, she knew she couldn't win a democratic election against the king because he had a slight yet noticeable upper hand in terms of followers
so what did she do?
using forbidden spells and the unimaginable power bestowed unto her by the gods as queen, she created her own realm. a realm where her and her followers fled into to create their own civilization, away from the king and his rule.
to differentiate her people from the king's people and restrict her followers from ever being accepted back into heaven, she cursed her angels with jet black wings.
to stop her people from being weak and pathetic she cursed them with tears that ran like lava down their skin, making no angel under her rule ever think of crying.
to create the evil empire she had always dreamed of she ripped the goodness out of every one of her angels' hearts, leaving only a dark void of a soul that this new species would eventually learn to be accustomed to.
as millions and eventually billions of years passed, evolution took it's course onto the demons. now suited to live the in the dark, harsh and new environment: the hellscape of underworld.
in heaven, a pact was made between the king and all rulers under him that no one shall ever hear of these events so that no one would ever think again to try and separate society and so that no angel would start questioning angelic laws that go against demons.
in hell, the tyrannous queen refused to pass on this knowledge so that no one would think to question her leadership or loyalty.
and so, like that, after enough generations had passed, the history of the two species was lost to time and locked away where no one would ever find it.
but taehyung did.
and, sooner or later, he was going to tell everyone.
