~Moments that scar us
...
It was a chilly afternoon, the tree's swayed against the windows, and the owls sang ominously with the wind.
The sky was darker then usual, no star in sight and no moon to grace the town with some light, little droplets of rain drizzled from the unseen clouds; patting against the concrete grounds outside, and over the roofs of every house.
It was a night of drama, and horror, a halloween night - no kid in sight, laughing and screaming 'trick o' treat' as it should be. The streets were empty, the houses were quiet because they've all lost a precious soul, that they held close to their hearts.
Donald Lynch, the man everyone looked up to in a small town in California - Lavington, Hazelnut Street. He was a bringer of smiles and laughter, always alive ... until now, until cancer took over completely.
He wasn't just a man for his town but a man for his family - for his wife and two kids, Amalia and John. The people he held closest to his heart.
Everyone knew the funeral would take place the next day, and that Donald's body was resting peacefully in the hospital, covered by a white, sheet shielding him from life.
Even the sky was mourning his death with the raging wind and the crying clouds, with the screaming owls.
Everyone else mourned quietly; in the hidden, except the girl who hid in the shadows of her porch, sitting beside a tree with her head in her hands, as the rain soaked her frail, shaking body.
The branches of the tree beside her, swung aimlessly - all hitting one another, sending some leaves down her way but she paid them no mind, as her tears spoke for her.
She shook her head, not one sob escaped her, for she feared anyone hearing her broken heart, because of the loss of her father.
Her face was scrunched up and her eyes were shut tight, every memory she had with him through all her sixteen years of life, played over and over again, making her shoulders shake violently, with every other tear.
As she cried more, the clouds cried too - the winds speed picked up and soon enough - her body wasn't only shaking because of her cries but because of the cold.
"Oh, daddy." She mumbled breathlessly, her voice was hoarse, broken and weak, almost like her. Her raven hair, was in a messy bun, but it was slowly coming apart as the wind hit her.
Nobody listened in closely enough to hear the young girl, grieving on her own; losing herself and drowning with her tears, nobody wanted to check on her to make sure the young girl was okay.
She rubbed her face tiredly with her hands, she felt herself get drowsier and her eyes were slowly drooping, she bit her lip before placing her small hand on the trunk of the large tree, balancing herself and pushing all her weight on the side, before standing up with a groan.
Her knees wobbled weirdly, and she had to twist her feet around to wake them up; her eyes were bloodshot, her cheeks were flushed, her face was pale and her lips were swollen from all the gnawing and nervous biting.
Slowly she made way back towards her house, her eyes were lifeless as she walked - two raging orbs of never ending nothingness, and her mind filled with memories of her father, all falling to when she saw him collapse, to only die in the end.
All the fighting, and all the support, all for nothing.
She made it halfway to her house before she stopped, her eyes were squinted as she gazed at the back door, which lead to the porch, giving view of the empty living room, making her heart ache.
She placed her hand over her forehead, and her face scrunched up - soon enough, her breathing became labored and white, puffs of smoke escaped her lips from the cold.
She stumbled for a bit, and suddenly, her body stilled for a minute and her eyes widened, before closing completely.
The wind blew mercilessly around her, hitting her covered skin and still cooling her, her tears haven't stopped, they continued trailing down her neck and disappearing into her dark sweater.
Her feet tripped on one another before her body fell sideways, no longer able to hold itself up. She fainted, and her body fell limp onto the ground, a loud creak echoed through the porch before everything fell silent once again.
For a second, her eyes had opened but they faced the empty sky; for her it wasn't empty because there was one star that had been imprinted into her mind.
Her father.
And thats when her eyes closed completely and she welcomed the darkness unwillingly.
