Chapter 9
After I whispered those few words to my Treecko, I threw it into the battlefield. Treecko came out, who seemed as confident as ever and ready to fight its opponent. The man flashed a smirk which slowly turned into a laugh.
"You expect that small thing to defeat my Pokémon?" The man closed his dark blue eyes then burst into laughter. "How pathetic!"
I shot a glare at him for making fun of my Treecko. I'll show you who's stronger. The man settled himself down then fixed his bark colored bandana. The brunette then threw his Pokèball, then it revealed a Poochyena.
"Alright Treecko, let's do this!" I say confidently, clenching my fist in the air. Treecko repeated the post I did, making me let out a small laugh.
"Take your best shot, rookie," shouted the man. "But just to warn ya, I'll win for sure!"
I ignored the man's comment then I looked down at my Treecko. "Alright Treecko," I began to give it a command. "Use Pound!" With that Treecko ran towards the foe's Poochyena and hit it with its tail, hard.
The man grew furious, then he completely lost his temper. "Poochyena use Bite!" The man's Poochyena quickly ran towards Treecko, having its jaw open at its max.
"Treecko, dodge it quick then use Quick Attack from behind!" Treecko nodded then jumped up, avoiding the foe's Poochyena's attack, then landed right behind it. Poochyena turned its head from left to right looking for Treecko. "Now Treecko!" I commanded. Treecko dashed right to Poochyena then hit it, sending it flying into the air. The Poochyena then hit the ground with a thud.
"Poochyena get up now!" snarled the man. Poochyena struggled to get up then it entirely collapsed onto the ground, making itself faint.
"I did it..." I said in a form of a whisper. Excitement filled my heart then I happily started jumping around. "I did it! I won!"
The man started cursing to himself then grabbed out his Pokéball. He pointed it towards his Poochyena and a red light appeared, sending his Poochyena back inside his Pokéball.
"You'll pay for this, rookie!" He bellowed, then stormed off, away from the scene. I watched the man flee from the battle, his eyes filled with anger. Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder. I jolted my head then I noticed Jeremy and the young woman smiling.
"Congratulations you did it!" Jeremy says. "I knew you could do it!"
"Thank you so much," the woman began. "I really owe you!"
I giggled at her response. "Haha you don't need to reward me, but all I need to know is who was he?"
"He's a thief from Team Aqua. Team Aqua is a gang of bad Pokémon Trainers that use their Pokémon to destroy the world. Luckily, he was only a grunt so we have nothing to worry about," The woman explained. "By the way, I'm Caroline."
"I'm Luna and this is my friend Jeremy. He's helping me along my Pokémon journey so I can become as great as my dad."
Caroline's eyes widen. "You're Steven's daughter? That's amazing. I've always wanted to meet him! I'm such a huge fan."
Wow, I've never met someone who was a fan of my dad, but he is the Champion of the Hoenn Region so that might explain it. All of a sudden I thought of Caroline. What was that Team Aqua grunt doing to her? All I can remember was him scaring her, then Jeremy and I arrived at the scene to stop him.
"Caroline, may I ask you something?" Caroline nodded. "What was that Team Aqua grunt doing to you anyways?"
"He," she slowly shuttered. "He wanted to steal my precious Beautifly. You see, I'm a Pokémon Contest Trainer. I train my Pokémon to compete in competitions and the winner wins a ribbon. Here's the one I got in Verdanturf Town," she pulled out a small case then opened it up. It revealed a light blue ribbon with a gold metal pin in the middle. "The man wanted to steal my Beautifly, which I trained so hard to earn this ribbon.
"What a cruel man," Jeremy stated. "Why would a person do that?"
"I'm wondering that too. But never mind that, he's gone now and I doubt we'll see him again," Jeremy and I nodded at Caroline's statement. "I should be going now, I'm going back to Petalburg City to show my parents my ribbon. Bye I hope we meet again someday!" Caroline waved goodbye as she ran off the opposite direction we were heading. We waved back until she was out of our sight.
"I guess we should get going now," I say. "Come on Treecko, how about you ride on my shoulder for a while." Treecko nodded then climbed up to my shoulder. "Come on, Jeremy, I have a gym battle to win!"
