Chapter 24

"It says here that the next gym is located in Mauville City. It states that it's an Electric type gym." Jeremy explained while reading off of the map beside the exit of Slateport City.

"Then that's where we'll go then," I claimed while looking back at Kit and Jeremy.

"Luna, I would catch some Pokémon, you know," said Jeremy.

I sighed. "True. Electric type Pokémon only have one weakness and that's Ground, right?"

Jeremy nodded. "Correct."

"How will we find any Ground Pokémon here? This city is surrounded by water so I doubt Ground Pokémon will be inhabited here." Kit replied in her calm and gentle voice.

"You're right," I paused for a few moments to think. Jeremy looked back onto the map.

"Well, if you head north of Mauville City, there's a desert on Route 111. There's bound to be a few Ground Types lurking in the desert. "

I smiled brightly. "Alright, let's head to Route 111 then,"

Kit nodded her head, then plastered a soft grin on her face. Moments later, we stepped out of Slateport City and headed to Mauville City.

As we walked towards our next destination, we came across a large, white building blocking most of the path. Our curiosity grew tremendously. Jeremy then suggested that we should check it out. Kit and I exchanged a glance and nodded, agreeing with Jeremy's plan. We then approached the strange, white building up ahead.

Before we stepped through the entrance, Kit spotted a large, white sign. Words were scribbled onto it, which Kit began to read out loud.

"Seaside cycling road," she stated. "This place must be for cyclers only."

"Maybe they have some rental bikes inside?" I inquired, then rushed through the automatic doors.

The place seemed almost deserted besides for one employee and a few kids on their bikes. Unfortunately, not a single untouched bicycle was in sight. Possibly the employee had some spare ones lurking within the building?

I walked up to the employee, but before I could say a word, he managed to blurt out, "This place is only for those who own bikes. You are prohibited to pass without some sort of bicycle."

"Sorry to say, sir, but we don't have any bikes," I replied, my eyebrows furrowed.

"Indeed. We were hoping that you could lend us a few bicycles." Kit continued.

"Listen, kids, I'm sorry but we don't sell bikes here," the employee claimed. "You just have to come here with a bike."

"Is there any place where we can purchase a few bikes? Jeremy questioned. "Anywhere nearby?"

"Mauville City is the only place that sells them," answered the employee, causing a frown to form on my face.

"But that's where we're heading to," I responded. "How are we supposed to get there then?"

The employee sighed. "There's a path that's mostly surrounded by water and wild Pokémon. I'm assuming you all are trainers so getting through there will be simple."

I exhaled deeply. "Alright, thanks anyway."

"You know, going through a path with wild Pokémon will help you train for the next battle." Jeremy advised.

"Right! It won't be that bad!" beamed Kit as she attempted to cheer me up.

"Alright, let's follow that path then. It's been awhile since I caught a Pokémon, so maybe there will be some creature here that'll help me later in my journey." I replied, smiling at the thought of catching a new companion.

As the three of us trailed through the path, which was not far from the cycling road, we spotted a few Pokémon lurking within the tall grass. None of them seemed to catch my attention. Most Pokémon that I saw were either Plusle, Minun, or Gulpin. However, I did find a Lotad, but I wasn't interested in owning any water types at the moment, especially since I was heading to an Electric type gym and I already had a Grass type.

I lifted my head slightly and noticed the cycling road directly above me. I envied those who managed to obtain bikes sooner. If I knew that I needed a bike in my journey, I would've grabbed the one that I owned at home and bring it along.

Suddenly, a rustle was heard from a patch of tall grass. It continued to shake and, out of nowhere, it stopped. The Pokémon within it must've been startled and scampered away. The three of us resumed down the trail, ignoring any continuous rustles from the tall grass. Suddenly, as the rustling sounds grew, a Pokémon pounced out of the tall grass, baring its teeth. I immediately grabbed Treecko's Pokéball, and tossed him out. In a flash, Treecko emerged from the Pokéball, ready for a battle.

Before I could command a move, I quickly whipped out my Pokédex and scanned the mysterious Pokémon.

Electrike, the Lightning Pokemon

Electrike runs faster than the human eye can follow. The friction from running is converted into electricity, which is then stored in this Pokémon's fur.

I glanced at the picture featured within the Pokédex, then at the Pokémon growling before me. Something seemed different though. I raised an eyebrow as I noticed it's fur was azure blue, instead of mint green.

"Luna," Kit said as she caught my attention. "that Pokémon is a shiny."

"A shiny?" I question, unfamiliar of what she was referring to.

"Yes. It's Pokémon that has a color scheme completely different than how it originally looks. They're extremely rare, though. You're lucky to have found one." explained the brunette.

A smile was instantly plastered across my face. "Then I have to catch it!"

I reached into my messenger bag and pulled out a Pokéball. Without hesitation, I chucked the Pokéball at it, hoping to catch it. The ball shook a few times; my excitement grew. Unfortunately, Electrike emerged from the Pokéball, continuing to growl. It barked a few times, then continued to bare its teeth. Treecko glanced up and gave me a look of confidence.

"Ah, so Electrike wants a battle first?" I asked myself, a smirk slowly curving onto my face. "Alright, let's battle!"

Kit and Jeremy took a few steps back, giving me enough room for the fight. Unfortunately, Electrike was an Electric type, hence it's name, which was a huge disadvantage for me. Grass wasn't as effective towards Electric types, along with Taillow. Kobe would manage to do some damage, but he wasn't as strong as Treecko or Taillow.

"Alright, Treecko, use Quick Attack!"

In a flash, Treecko sprinted towards Electrike and ran into it, knocking the blue Pokémon off of its feet. Electrike quickly stood up, shaking slightly to remove the dirt off of its fur. The Electric type Pokémon was stiff as electricity sparked all around its fur. It then released the electricity, aiming right at Treecko. Treecko dodged the attack, but the Pokémon continued to launch its electric attacks.

Treecko relentlessly dodged the attacks, scattering all over the place. Unfortunately, Treecko soon ran out of stamina and was forced to retire, causing him to finally be shocked by the electricity. As my Grass type partner collapsed onto the ground, electrical sparks still remained on him. Although Electric wasn't very effective towards Grass, it still inflicted a lot of damage.

I cursed under my breath as Kit shrieked behind me. "He's paralyzed, Luna! You need to heal him! Here, I've got a paralysis heal!"

I quickly turned my back and grabbed the paralyze heal from Kit's hand, returning a slight nod of gratitude. I rushed to Treecko in order to treat him, but he was forcing himself up anyway.

"Treecko, what are you doing?" I questioned, observing his concerning actions. "You're gonna get hurt! I don't want that to happen to you!"

Treecko, refusing my warning, struggled to stand back up on two feet. His hands were pressed against the ground, attempting to push himself back up. Suddenly, a blue light engulfed Treecko, pausing him for a bit. It was hard to tell what was happening, but he seemed to be growing taller and a long leaf grew out of his head. His hands and feet became sharper, resembling claws.

As the blue light faded away, I realized that I just witnessed my very first Pokémon evolve. I immediately grabbed my Pokédex and scanned my partner.

Grovyle, the Wood Gecko Pokémon

This Pokémon adeptly flies from branch to branch in trees. In a forest, no Pokémon can ever hope to catch a fleeing Grovyle however fast they may be.

Grovyle turned his head, now gazing into my eyes. A smirk brushed across his face as he was ready to resume the battle. He seemed to have regained his strength after his evolution.

I smirked as well, then shouted, "Alright, Grovyle, use Mega Drain!"

Grovyle nodded, and instantly absorbed a vast amount of health from Electrike, receiving some of its health in return. Electrike growled, then charged towards Grovyle. Without a command from me, Grovyle charged as well. They appeared to both be using Quick Attack. Moments later, they both sprinted passed each other and stopped a few feet after. The both stood completely still, aside from their heavy breathing. Suddenly, Electrike toppled to the ground.

Now was my chance. I reached into my messenger bag and pulled out a Pokéball, chucking it at the shiny Electrike. The ball shook three times and a click was heard. Smiling, I picked the Pokéball off the ground and clenched it tightly in my hand, admiring my newly caught Pokémon.

"Congratulations on your new Pokémon and your Treecko evolving!" beamed Jeremy. Kit nodded her head in return, speechless.

"Aha, thanks," I answered, grinning.

Grovyle slowly approached me, stopping only a foot away from my body.

"You did great out there, buddy," I said to him as I stroked his head. "You must be stronger now that you've evolved. We'll be able to defeat the Electric type Gym much easier now."

The gecko-looking Pokémon wrapped his slender arms around my waist, his claws slightly piecing my skin. I winced slightly, but I couldn't resist to hug him back.

"Grov...," he cooed, accepting the embrace.

"Ah! You're so adorable!" blurted Kit from behind. She raced towards us and embraced my partner, leaving Jeremy with a smile curved onto his lips.

"I think we should get going now," Jeremy said, brushing his chocolate brown hair out of his face. We're almost at Mauville City."

"Alright," Kit and I replied in unison.

I glanced down at Grovyle. I pulled out his Pokéball from my messenger bag. Right before I could return him inside, he placed his claw onto the red and white ball, lowering it down.

"Seems like he doesn't want to be in his Pokéball," stated Jeremy.

I chuckled. "Okay, fine, Grovyle. Just make sure you go inside when we're at the Pokémon Center to heal you up."

Grovyle stated his name in agreement.

I placed the two Pokéballs back into my bad—Grovyle's and Electrike's. The four of us then turned around and continued to follow the path leading towards Mauville City.

IM SO SORRY!!!!

I haven't touched this book is almost a year!!! I feel so bad that I neglected it for so long!!! I've received so many comments telling me that I should update and my excuse was always "yep I will soon" Even though I was working on it, I never had the motivation to complete a chapter!

But it's okay now. I promise, for real this time, that I will update much more. I'm hoping to update every 3 weeks–a month. I'm trying to work on my Miraculous Ladybug fanfiction, which I actually do update frequently. If you also like Miraculous Ladybug, please check out my book. I can assure you that it's much better than this book.

But now that I'm on summer break, I can finally update this book more frequently. I'll probably have a second chapter out in a week or so as a way of apologizing for the long wait.

Honestly, it's hard to write a Pokémon book because you don't always know how to describe a move or how a battle should go. It's much better in a visual perspective than it written with words. Normally, I look up descriptions of moves or the Pokémon themselves in order to write this story.

Anyways, thanks for bearing with me for about a year. I'll get that second chapter out soon. I now know what I want to do with the book, so thank god.

Also, tell me what you think about the new Pokémon games. Either Ultra Sun/Moon or the upcoming Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee. I'll let you know about my thoughts when you ask.

Don't forget to leave a vote, a comment, or even share this with friends if you enjoyed it so much.

Thanks!!

-Nicoletta

Also this is how shiny Electrike looks like if you were wondering.

What a bean she is
