Chapter 16

Jeremy and I walked along the path, heading to Route 116. Large buildings towered over us as we passed by them. They were massive in size, causing me to seem like a Caterpie to them. I guess this place deserves to call itself a city.

"Do you think you'll find any good Pokémon in the wild?" Jeremy asked. "The last time you tried to catch one was that Poochyena."

"And if course it ran away from me," I added in a sluggish tone.

"Yeah, that's too bad. However, I've heard that Route 116 has some cool Pokémon. Pretty strong, too." Jeremy states with a smiled.

"All right. I'll check them out. Hopefully they'll be strong enough to use in a battle with my father someday." I beamed with excitement. It indeed is my life goal to train hard and someday arrive at the Pokémon League. Since my father is the champion, he would be the most difficult person I encounter.

A few minutes have passed and Jeremy and I finally reached the entrance to Route 116. Route 116 seemed a place that would have Pokémon wondering around. It was mainly covered with massive trees, shrubs, and tall grass, great for Pokémon to hid in.

"Ready to find something?" Jeremy asked.

I nodded, then immediately sprinted into the wilderness. Many trainers were all around me, either searching for Pokémon, battling each other, or just carrying for their Pokémon. I on the other hand was eager to find a strong Pokémon that I could keep on my team.

Jeremy dashed towards me while panting heavily. "If you're gonna catch some Pokémon, please warn me. I don't want to loose you on this route. Besides, I'm the one with the map."

"Haha sorry, Jeremy," I apologized with a sheepish look. "I'm just really excited since the last time I tried to catch a Pokémon, it ran away."

"Well, it does go with its ability," Jeremy muttered, however I understood none of it. Jeremy was much more experienced than I was so it explains why I did not understand what he muttered. However, I would not let that one spec of curiosity bug me at this moment.

***

Jeremy and I walked throughout Route 16. So far, no Pokémon sprang out at us for a battle. Neither did the Trainers. Although, I just let it be and continued hiking along the route.

A rustle was heard in the trees.

I glanced up and noticed some branches shaking as they just met a fellow friend. As I kept my eyes glued to the rustling sounds above, my hand slowly moved towards my messenger bag to open a flap. I then grabbed the Pokéball that was closest to me. Throwing it out, I silently called out its name. Treecko appeared moments later. I inched to the moving tree.

"Treecko, help me shake this tree," I whispered. Treecko nodded in return then shook the tree with all of its might.

"I don't think you should do that..." Jeremy trailed off as he watched. Of course, I ignored him. Curse my ignorant mind.

Just after shaking the slim, yet full tree, a Pokémon flew right out of the leaves, tackling Treecko and I to the ground. Once I regained my vision, I spotted a Pokémon in front of me. I stood up, stumbling slightly, and observed the blue bird Pokémon that was screeching at us. I carefully pulled out my Pokédex.

Taillow, the Tiny Swallow Pokémon

Taillow courageously stands its ground against foes, however strong they may be. This gutsy Pokémon will remain defiant even after a loss. On the other hand, it cries loudly if it becomes hungry.

As the Pokédex read Taillow's entry, I gazed at it in excitement. A bird Pokémon would be great for my team.

"All right!" I exclaimed. "time to catch this Pokémon." I glanced down at Treecko, who was now bracing himself as he stood up from the impact. "Ready Treecko?"

"Treecko!" my partner beamed in determination.

Taillow sent a death glare straight at me and Treecko. It then released a call of confidence to assure that the battle has begun.

"Luna, I won't use—," Jeremy began, however my excitement already called the first move: Absorb. "...Treecko"

As Treecko used the move, Taillow stood still on its two talons, observing the battle. Once the move drained some of Taillow's HP, it still sat there, in boredom.

"How come it didn't effect it?" I asked myself. However, my voice was a bit too loud, allowing my voice to travel into Jeremy's ears.

"Luna, Treecko is a Grass Type and Taillow is a Flying Type. Grass isn't that effective towards Flying, remember?" A faint memory of Jeremy and I traveling the Johto region together struck into my mind. He would always repeat what Types were effective to each other, and Grass and Flying was one of them.

I sighed deeply. I just now I would have to use Normal Type moves. "Treecko, use Pound."

Treecko nodded firmly, then ran towards Taillow and whacked it tail against its body, which sent it flying backwards and banging itself into an Oak tree. Taillow's eyes were filled with fury.

Instantaneously, Taillow flapped its wings and soared into the air. For a split second I thought I was unlucky again. Another encountered Pokémon running away from a battle. However, I was wrong. Just as that thought went through my head, Taillow darted down like a bullet. It was heading directly towards Treecko. If he didn't attack, he might have to be sent back to the Pokémon Center.

Finally, after a few pondering thoughts, I made up my decision. "Treecko, once Taillow is extremely close to you, use pound once more."

Treecko plastered a concerning look onto his face, but by love and trust, he allowed himself to take the risk.

Taillow continued flying towards Treecko, its wings tucked inside like a blanket. It appeared like a jet ready to crash land. It was almost ready for its attack.

The time had finally come. "Now, Treecko,"

The second those two words escaped my mouth, Treecko swung its tail around, directly hitting Taillow. Although, Taillow's Peck also directly hit Treecko on his tail. Both Pokémon were bolted straight back, smacking themselves into the trees that blocked their way. If nothing was acting as an obstacle to them, they would have been flying in that speed for eternity.

I turned my head towards Treecko, then dashed right to him. I crouched myself down to the ground and held him in my arms once I approached the large tree.

"You did a great job, Treecko," I reassured and continued grasping him in my arms. After that, I made my way back to Taillow.

It appeared as the impact was so strong. Taillow was lying by the tree, fainted. I grabbed out a Pokéball from my bag. Suddenly, there was small movement coming from the bird. It slowly opened its eyes, locking them at mine. I carefully placed the Pokéball on the ground in front of it.

"Would you like to be part of my team? I'll help you become stronger." I whispered calmly. Treecko sat down beside me, possibly thinking the same thing I was.

Taillow looked at the Pokéball, then reached out its wing towards the Pokéball. The fragile, blue feathers were gently placed onto the front of the red ball. Without a moment to spare, a crimson light escaped the Pokéball as it opened, transporting Taillow inside.

The ball began to shake. One. Will it stay? Two. It might. Three. We are close....Finally, the ball stopped and released a click. I have successfully caught my first Pokémon.

"Yay, Luna!" Jeremy cheered in the background. "You did it! Well....kinda. The Pokémon allowed itself to go inside once it fainted, but I'll still give you credit."

"Haha thanks, Jeremy," I answered, smiling widely. I then grasped my hand around the Pokéball and lifted up, facing it towards me. My eyes met with the center of the red and white Pokéball.

"I will help you get stronger, Taillow," I smiled gratefully. It was so clean and shiny, I could see my reflection off of it. I then placed it back into a little pocket in my bag. Hopefully, Taillow heard those little words for confidence.

"Are you ready to continue?" I ask Jeremy as he slowly makes his way to the large tree.

"Sure," Was all he said.

I nodded in agreement, then continued to walk through Route 116.

----------------------------------------------

Hello everyone!! Finally got a chapter up after awhile, am I right? I was planning to write this chapter now for a little while so here it is. Hopefully you all enjoyed it.

Also, the Christmas break is nearing and during that time I'll have vacation for a week or so. Many people already got out and I'm so jealous of them!! But hopefully during that time I can write in my stories.

Since I completed two of the ones I was working on, I can now have time to write this story The Story Behind it All (check it out if you also like Mlp) and The Hidden Secrets which is a new one. Moreover, I have an Ask The Dazzlings which I'll update more frequently nowadays.

Thanks again for reading this chapter and I'll see you in the next one!! Bye!!
