Chapter Eighteen
It's been three more weeks, and I have just finished unpacking and getting the hang of where everything is. I found out that there's a library right down the hall to the right from me. It's huge and has over three-hundred books. I've read about three of them that are about Aliens. I have learned so much from three books that I learned at school in three years. Mineu told me to explore as much as I like. But, I tried that to find out that many doors are locked, or they're jammed. There are even some doors that lead to walls. It's peculiar, the walls are always painted too. As if it was a typical wall and then someone put a door over it. It's very confusing to me.
I never ask though because I feel like it's rude to questions someone about their own household. Especially when I don't deserve to be here. I mean, I could've just stayed at my own house instead of being here and invading some of her privacy.
I sigh as I go back to my room and look around. I wish that I could redecorate my room. Make it look happier. Instead of being black and white along with red. At first, I thought that it was nice, but now that I've been here, in this blue house, I've decided that I would rather a vibrant pink or something. The colors just look sad, and as if I shouldn't be here, it's a little unwelcoming.
I smile as I look at the photos that I've taken with my phone since I got here. I have a whole bunch of pictures with my Aliens playing with each other. Buddy is getting bigger and bigger by every week that passes. I smile thinking about when I just got him a couple months he was about the size of my hand. Now, now he's about as tall as I am. I sigh, his childhood days are almost over, and I still don't know what Mineu wants them for. She says that she wants to experiment their behavior, but I don't think that researching that takes longer than a month. I think it'd be normal for her to want me to stay for maybe a year, but she wants me to wait for about four at the least. I think that's a little too long just to experiment their behavior.
I walk out of my room and go down the untidy stairs. There are books all over them and papers with writing. I look around and don't see Mineu about, but I see my Alien's names on the paper. Since I don't see anyone, I pick up the documents and start to read.
"I've found out a lot about the Acid Aliens. The baby is starting to grow up as he's about four months old now. The mother still protects him as if he's her baby still. But he's almost as tall as Scarlet. Which is probably not a good thing. Males are known to be more aggressive when it comes to protecting their masters. I hope that this project doesn't get out of hand. Otherwise, the baby will have to go, and the mother will be killed." Then there is a time skip to a new paragraph. I'm starting to regret coming here with the Aliens. I knew that there was going to be something that I didn't know about. I then shake my head and continue to read. "It's been a couple of weeks, and Scarlet still isn't smart enough to understand what's going on. At this rate. I have her like putty in my hands. She's nothing but a distraction, I have to lock some of my doors. I hid the key that unlocks all the doors in the house in my bedroom nightstand where she'll never find it." Is what it reads and the rest is scribbled too fast for me to understand. I smirk.
"I never find it? Oh, I will now. I need to know what you're really doing with my Aliens." I say very quietly to myself as I put the paper back down and creep towards Mineu's room. Once I get to Mineu's room, I open the door and hear the shower running. She must be taking one because she's going to go somewhere today. That's a good thing so now I can go in, and go out without any questions or awkward conversations to sit through. Just like at dinner.
While the Aliens devour their food, Mineu and I just sit there awkwardly just watching each other eat. It's weird as we can't find anything right to talk about anymore. At first, we would speak of our school lives and the girls that we hated and the men we wished that we dated. After we talked about my childhood, the stories stopped.
I tiptoe over to her bed and see a giant problem. Zuran is on the couch sleeping. I shiver at the thought of sleeping with that thing. I hate Zuran as she is 'friendly' but for some reason has a problem with me. I go over to the bed stand which is to the right of the room and open the top drawer to see the key! It's a bright yellow with red paint on it? I guess so. I take the key and replace it with the one Mineu gave me which doesn't open any of the doors. I then shut the drawer and tiptoe out of the room, acting as if I was never there in the first place. Thankfully I didn't wake Zuran. I then go over to one of the doors that's locked and put the key into it. I turn the key to the right and hear a click sound. I smile and open the door and see the weirdest thing ever. There are pictures of Aliens with red X's on them, and then I see my Aliens with a green circle around it. I take the picture and turn it over.
"These may be the ones. The ones that will help me succeed in my findings. -M" I shiver as a chill goes down my back as if the air just turned on or something. I turn around and shut the door behind me and lock it, so it looks like I never opened it. I then turn back around and put the picture again. I then see a picture of Dave and me when we were getting coffee.
"Who took this?" I ask myself quietly as I take the picture off the wall and look at it. I turn it over and see the writing.
"That's the one, the one who stole the baby Alien. I know it. She looks too innocent that it has to be true! She has the thing I need to continue my project!" is what it says. I put the picture back disgusted. I look around the room and take it all in.
On the right side of the wall is a bunch of pictures of Isolation Aliens. In the middle, there are a bunch of images of Acid Aliens and Water Aliens. To my left is a bunch of pictures of people including Dave and me.
I take one picture on the right with an 'X' over it and look at it. It looks like an Alien on a ship. An Isolation Alien to be exact. You can tell by its black exterior and sharp teeth dripping saliva.
I turn the picture over and start to read.
"This is the Alien who killed Amanda. The Alien was never seen after this time but, I bet that it's somewhere on this planet!" The writing looks old, and then I look further down to what looks like more recent handwriting. "The Alien is in a lab. I found what may help me create a potion to make all the Aliens listen to one person." I shake my head knowing that's not right. There's more writing though. I have to read it. I have to find out what is going on. "It didn't work. It just made Zuran more aggressive at night. Back to the drawing board. All Isolation Aliens are out!" I put the picture back trying to hold back my gasp. She experiments on Zuran. That's why she acts so weird sometimes. Especially at night; that poor baby, I take back everything I've said about her.
I wonder what she's looking for and what has led to this. Something that makes all the Aliens look up to one person. Almost as if she wants to be the queen of all the Aliens. I can't believe this. I put it back and then grab a Water Alien photo. It looks just like her old Alien. I turn it over.
"I'm sorry that I let them hurt you. I'll get revenge. This is what all this is about. Once I do, I'll bring you back to me. RIP Buremu 1/15/90" I sigh feeling a little bad. All she wants is her best friend back. I smile as I look at the picture of Buddy. He looks so happy there. Just like he always does.
I look around and see all the people she has been following. I take a picture of the same fat man I saw in the car. I turn the picture around and read it.
"This is Heffley, he's a sixty-four-year-old man who was my neighbor when Buremu was killed. He's one of my top suspects." I can't believe that. She's been following people from day one. "Heffley doesn't know anything. He let me check his house. He's not a suspect. He didn't do it. He's still going to pay though. I left a disease in his house that will shortly kill him." I gasp as I read the next line. "Rip Heffley 1/15/19" It's the same day and month as her Alien was killed. She had all of this planned out. I put the picture back. I look to the right of that picture and see the blonde chick from the car ride too. I take the view down and look at it.
"Stephanie. She was always jealous that I made a friend like Buremu. She must've got so jealous that she killed him. I'll make her pay." I shiver at the thought of being one of that suspects since I'm on the board too. "She killed him. She had the same knife that killed him. I stabbed her to death. I'm sorry Stephanie. But this relationship is over." I shiver. I can't take this. How could someone like her possibly do this? "RIP Stephanie 1/15/20" I put the picture back now feeling paranoid as I take my view down. I look at the picture of me in my house and turn it over.
"Another person from my school. She has the baby Alien that I need. I have a plan." I gulp as I continue to read. "Hey, Scarlet. Sorry, but your Aliens are mine. RIP Scarlet 1/15/21" I drop the picture and step back.
"That's today...." I say as I turn around and see Mineu standing there with a long knife in her hand.
"Scarlet, Scarlet, Scarlet. If you just kept yourself out of my business, you would've died later. But, like everyone else, I let into my house. You just can't. Goodbye Scarlet." She says as she stabs me in the stomach. I gasp and fall to my knees as I start to feel a horrible sensation. I fall to the ground. This time. I'm not around other people that can save me. Not this time.
