Tammy's POV

"E dey rush, e dey rush well well, e be much
No be hype everybody dey crush
There's no dulling with us"

I sang along as the music blasted through my headphones. Curious about my mother's culture I started following Nigerian news, events and even music.

Once in a while I listened to one of their songs because I felt like I owed them that much. I felt connected to them that way, since my mom never lets us visit.

I rolled my eyes.

I was in my room, alone. MJ had a project to do with a guy in her Social Studies class. She told me what it was about but I honestly wasn't paying attention. All I grabbed was that his name was Greg and he was really smart so she was gonna try to not make it seem like she was making him do all the work. I chucked to myself. That girl was really nice when you got under her tough skin.

Hannah was out with some off her friends at the arcade - one of which was Amy Baxter who I knew from gym class but I never actually talked to the chick. Yes, the school has a freaking arcade. Why? I didn't know. Did I really care to know? Not even a little.

That left little book-hugging Grace. I really wasn't sure where she was but I'm almost positive she's probably off somewhere studying for a test next year. I mentally sighed. That girl needed to learn to let loose once in a while.

Note to self: Friday is mandatory girls night out! I smiled in satisfaction but it soon turned to a frown as I looked at the cleaning supplies in my hands. It was my turn to clean up the room and I had been dreading today because I HATE cleaning but what can you do. Everybody has to pitch in for it to be fair.

I had my headphones on as I swept and mopped our average sized dorm room.

I wiped the sweat off my forehead. I was finally done and I looked at my work in approval as a smile crept unto my lips.

We had time to work on each of our sides since we got settled in. I looked down at my worn out formerly white (but now cream with hints of bbq sauce and ketchup) tee shirt and faded jeans.

There was no way I was gonna use clothes I still wear to clean. Though I had on rubber boots and cleaning gloves. I had my hair in a loose messy bun with strands of hair falling out now and then.

In all, I looked like a mess, and full disclosure I did a lot more than sweep and mop.

I was in the middle of gathering the cleaning materials when I heard a knock on the door.

I assumed it was Grace so I went to open the door.

"I finally finished cleaning!" I said to Grace as I made my way to MJ's bed. I love my up bunk but it's not the most ideal place to get to when I just need to flop unto a bed.

Which I do more often these days.

"It looks like you did a good job"

I froze and shot up in bed. That wasn't Grace voice. I looked in horror between my unexpected visitor and my old clothes.

"Bryce, umm hi" I waved at him awkwardly as I went to my closet to look for better clothes - and to hide the look of embarrassment on my face.

He just chuckled in amusement, watching me as I walked past him with a black long sleeve crop top and boyfriend jeans to change in the bathroom.

"To what do I owe this unexpected visit?" I ask as I close the bathroom door.

"The guys are in class and I just happened to know that you're free so I decided to drop by. I hope that isn't a problem?" He asks and I hear the smirk on his face.

I never knew you could hear a smirk until that moment.

"Do you know my schedule?" I asked cheekily as I emerged from the bathroom.

I was looking much better in my change of clothes and my brown waist length hair brushed neatly into two buns on my head with two single braids at the front centre of my hairline.

It was his turn to look embarrassed and I smirked in satisfaction as I put on my white converse.

"So, did you enjoy the party last night" he asked trying to change the topic. I just pitied him and played along. But just this once.

"Yeah, it was really nice. Pete really knows how to throw a party. Are all his parties like that?"

"Yeah, he can really throw wild parties" he answers but it's like he's talking to himself, probably remembering past parties.

"His party was where I met Hannah actually"

I turned to look at him. He was looking out the window, deep in thought. I had only ever heard about them dating when they argued at the water balloon fiasco (as I chose to call it).

I never really asked because I didn't like putting my nose in other people's business but I felt my curiosity pushing me to ask further.

"How long did you guys date?" I asked looking where he was looking. It was around six pm am Mr Sun was already getting tired as he started to set.

"Do you wanna take a walk with me, Tammy?" he asked still looking out the window.

I nodded then realized he couldn't see my face.

"Sure"

We both got up and left the room after I left a note on the door.

"No peaking" I warned and Bryce put his hands up in surrender.

Done cleaning😁 Btw don't touch the mirror Hannah unless YOU want to polish it!

Bryce chuckled as he read my note from behind my shoulder.

"I said no peaking!" I whined as I hit his shoulder playfully. He barely flinched. He was quite muscular and I resisted the urge to run my fingers down his bicep.

Family-friendly thoughts Tammy! I internally scold myself. Plus MJ really likes him and I could never do that to her. And he seems to like her to, or at least that's what I thought before last night.

"Two months"

"What?" I ask coming back down to earth.

"You asked how long Hannah and I dated. I replied two months" Bryce answers nonchalantly. He stared at his white and black NIKE shoes like they were the most interesting thing before color pens. Which I am obsessed with. I probably have every color of Schneider pen there is.

"Earth to Tammy. Are you even listening?" Bryce asked a bit annoyed.

"Yeah, sorry. My thoughts wander off in the weirdest directions" I reply and he gives a throaty chuckle.

"What could you be thinking off that is more interesting than me?" He asks with his signature smirk in place.

I scoff.

"School"

"Ouch, that hurts me Tammy" he says in fake hurt with his right hand on his chest for emphasis.

I nudge him playfully and we laugh before we dive into conversation.

Bryce wasn't half bad to talk to. We talked about anything and everything whether it made sense or not. I really enjoyed talking to him which was probably why I was so bummed to receive a text from Hannah saying I need to come back to the dorm ASAP.

"You sure you don't want me to walk you back in?" Bryce asks at the entrance of the female dorm building.

There was no way I was going back in with him. The death glares I got from the girls as I passed by when we left were enough. I definitely didn't need that again.

"I am perfectly capable of going up the stairs on my own" I reply.

"Whatever you say" he says giving me a playful grin instead of one of his signature smirks.

Huh, a real smile. We were really making progress.

He turned to leave before saying

"This was nice Tammy. We should do it some other time"

"I think we should" I say with a smile.

I turn to make my way inside, ignoring the weird stares and mean glares I got from my fellow classmates and other desperate hormone-driven teenagers.

But not before I hear his leaving remark

"Good night beer pong queen"
