Chapter 3
Later that day, when I was feeling more energized, I made my way down to the park with Cleo and Dustin.
Cleo was already excited to meet Tabithas new boyfriend so it didn't take anything to convince her to come. As for Dustin, he said he would go anywhere as long as I was with him, aww.
Anyways, we hung out for a little while by the swings until Tabitha showed up with a boy that looked about our age, with 'goth like' dark hair and eyes, wearing a black leather jacket and jeans. His face was pale, but with a look of innocence in his eyes. They both headed our way. Meeting new people has always been a bit of an anxious situation for me, but luckily Tabitha was the first to talk, "Von, this is Zoe, Dustin, and Cleo, guys this is Von". We all shared awkward stares before we shook hands with him as he lit up a cigarette. I wondered if he even knew that Tabitha was sharing personnel information about them to me.
I turned bright red at the thought of it. How could she even be so comfortable with telling me? Were not that close, I still had only met her a few months back.
Dustin noticed my face change colour and held my hand, running his thumb over my knuckles. It comforting, but not enough to stop me from blabbering out, "Why don't we all catch a movie, huh?" I talk and fast and loud when I'm nervous. After a few seconds pause, Cleo finally said, "Yeah c'mon guys that's a good idea". "Fabulous idea",Tabitha said.
And with that we left in Cleos new car which she insisted we take since she had just got her license. It was a dark blue mini van that I could see my reflection off of. Cleo had taken me in it once to cheer practice. Showed it off to me, and now everybody else. Then after ten minutes of a bragging blonde little Cleo, we showed up at the movies.
The film we watched was long and boring, or at least in my opinion. At one point in the middle of the movie, Tabitha, who was seated next to me lit up a cigarette. My eyes widened in shock. "Tabitha!", I whisper shouted.
"What?" Like she didn't know. Please girl, this isn't the sixties, you can't just light up a joint wherever you want.
"You can't smoke in the theater", I said sternly. She stared at me for a second like I was her mom. "Zoe, you seem stressed", then she took a cigarette out of her leather jacket pocket and put it in my hand,"here, it'll calm your nerves",she said. I glared at her,"you know if don't smoke, Tabitha, and were gonna get in trouble". She rolled her eyes and laughed, "Yeah right! I do this all the time here. I never get caught".
Just at that moment, someone who worked at the theater stood in front of us. It was a short woman with freckles. "You two ladies come with me", she said. I looked at Tabitha, but I didn't say anything, my face said it all, "You've really done it this time haven't you?"
