Chapter 26
What?! Steve's coming already? Hana was really nervous about meeting him because she didn't really know the guy and he probably didn't heard of her.
"There he is!" Krystal said, waving at him.
Hana turned around. Steve was walking towards them. He was a lanky guy wearing specs and he kind of looked like a nerd though. He sat opposite her, beside Krystal. It was hard trying not to make eye contact with him when he was sitting right opposite her. Steve was talking with her friends, barely talking to her. Anyways they were just strangers to each other. But it was really difficult for Hana though. She was trying to fit in and get into their conversation but it was so hard because the four of them were talking about stuff about the drama club. And since she wasn't a member of the club, she really didn't know how to get into their conversation. Occasionally she tried to join in their conversation but they didn't seem to hear her. Hana was beginning to regret coming at all. She was so isolated. Maybe she should think of some excuse to leave.
After lunch, they went to the arcade to play since they had nothing to do.
"Shall we all put in $5 for the card?" Krystal suggested.
"Sure!" Everyone agreed.
Actually, Hana's mum had told her not to go to the arcade and waste her money on games. But Hana didn't care. She hadn't gone to the arcade for a long time and she wanted to play her favorite games. She went around to find the games she wanted to play, pulling Carrie and Sasha along with her to ask her to play the games with her since it would be boring to play it alone. So, the five of them spent quite a while in the arcade.
After that, they just wandered around the mall for a while more before having dinner and headed home. There wasn't much to do so they all just went home. It was somewhat fun and not fun at the same time. It was only fun in the arcade, other than that Hana just spent the whole time trying to join in the conversation with her friends. She just gave up in the end, walking silently behind them as they chatted happily between themselves. She shouldn't have gone out. She totally regretted it...

31 December. The last day of the year. Hana dreaded this day the most. It meant that there was another horrible year waiting for her tomorrow. She really hated it. She liked having a school break and she didn't want to end. Because, when school starts, the stress and everything will all come back and she hated that. She hated the stress. The next year will be even more stressful because she will be taking her O levels next year, which was an important exam that would determine what school she will go to next year. Hana really didn't want next year to come.
11.50pm. 10 minutes to next year. Hana lay on her bed, unable to sleep. She had gone to bed as usual at 11pm but she just couldn't fall asleep. She was worried about what was going to happen next year.
11.59pm. 1 minute to next year. Outside, she could already hear the TV counting down to next year. Hana closed her eyes and prayed that next year wouldn't be worse than this year.
5...4...3...2...1... Happy New Year!
Great. It was 2013 already, Hana thought.
