Chapter 15

As they approached the guy, he said, "What are you guys doing? You're supposed to be doing the night walk alone."

"It wasn't intentional," Keane said. "We just met each other along the way."

The guy ignored what Keane said and said, "From now onwards, you all will be walking alone. Starting from you."

He pointed at Keane who was at the front of the group. Keane sighed and started walking. Well, there goes their plan of walking together.

Hana went next. She was once again alone. She wondered if Keane would wait for them to catch up.

Following the directions of the guide, she turned left again. Hana realized that her surroundings looked familiar. She had been here in the morning. It was where the monkeys were. And she remembered Andrew saying that the monkeys can move around here freely sometimes. Oh no. Would the monkeys still roam freely at this time? Hana wondered. She hoped not. It was really creepy here. Plus, she had been walking alone for a while now, with no guide in sight. She wondered if she was going the right way. When will she ever reached the foyer? This is getting creepier and creepier by the minute. Hana thought. She started walking faster. She really wanted to get out of here as soon as possible.

Just then, Hana thought she spotted someone in the shadows. Was it another one of those camp facilitators? Or was it...? Hana shuddered at the thought and walked even faster. It's got to be one of those camp facilitators. It's got to be them. Hana said in her head repeatedly, not wanting it think of the alternative.

After what seem like an eternity, Hana finally saw the light at the foyer. Finally! She thought. Hana breathed a sigh of relief. She was glad that the night walk was over. She never wanted to experience that ever again, even though it was nothing much.

The night walk was finally over. Everyone was gathered in the foyer, all talking about the night walk.

Mrs Ho, one of the teachers-in-charge of the camp, stood in front of them and shouted, "Quiet!"

Instantly, everyone kept quiet, shocked.

"I hoped all of you have enjoyed your first day. But I have seen some things and recieved complains from your camp facilitators that I felt you all ought to know. "She said. "First, some of you have been very rude to your camp facilitators. I've heard that some of you even cursed at them just because you were unhappy. This, is unacceptable! Even if you are unhappy, you shouldn't even do that! Please show some respect for camp facilitators, ok? After all, they took time to plan all this for all of you."

After letting that sink in, she continued, "Next, some of you have been disregarding the game rules. Like the night walk just now. I've heard from the camp facilitators that some of you cheated by waiting for your friends..."

Hana's head drooped when she heard that, she was guilty of that.

"...Next time, please listen to instructions. And I hope I don't have to address these issues again. Now, we'll go back to base camp." With that, she ended her long 'speech'.

It was time to sleep. Hana sat in the tent with the rest of her roommates, preparing to sleep. She could feel the ground beneath her. It was hard and cold. But she didn't want to sleep in her sleeping bag. It was too hot and stuffy at this time of the year to be sleeping in a sleeping bag. In the end, she decided to use the sleeping bag as a pillow because it was really hot.

Hana wasn't at all happy sleeping in a tent. There were six of them in the tent. It was really squeezy. All of them could barely stretched their legs out and they were all squeezed together. Hana was sleeping in between Sasha and Carrie. The both of them were already asleep. But Hana just couldn't sleep. She tossed and turned, trying to tune out the comings and goings of everyone outside. Opposite her, Steph and Ting were also awake. Steph kept going out of the tent, either that or she kept saying hi to those walking past their tent (they had left the tent open except for the mosquito nets because it was simply too hot). It was honestly kind of annoying though.

1am. It's been two hours. Hana was still tossing and turning.

All of a sudden, she heard someone being scolded. Moments later, there were sound of people moving things. Steph had also woken up. Steph opened their tent and saw the camp facilitators moving their benches over to the area separating the tents of the guys and girls. Once again, Steph had went out. She had probably went to find out what's going on. A few minutes later, she came back and told Ting, "Apparently some guy went to one of the girls' tent. That's why they're setting up a 'human barrier'."

Well, that explains it. Hana thought. She closed her eyes once again, trying to sleep. And this time, she   managed to fall asleep. For a few hours, at least.
