I’m amazed that we didn’t die right then and there, honestly. Everyone froze in terror.
Then my instincts kicked in, and I swung my hand towards the falling debris, summoning a gust of wind to push it away.
“Run!” Ashton yelled finally, coming back to his senses. Everyone took off running down the street, and I quickly joined them.
“There are people in there! Where’s Flare and Grounder?!” Isabelle exclaimed. I went up next to Pearl, and we locked eyes.
I sighed, “Fine…”
Then I shouldered my bag in my hand, and ran into the nearest alleyway. I jumped behind a pile of trash bags, and pulled my Streak costume out of my bag, quickly changing into it. I made sure my bag was hidden, before letting my wings sprout out of the holes in my hoodie, and flying up.
I found Flare and Grounder already there, with Grounder sprouting plants from the ground trying to hold the building up. I sighed, landing next to Flare as he put someone down.
“Want some help?” I asked. He scowled.
“We don’t need your help,” he retorted, glaring at me. I sighed.
“Really? Because it doesn’t look like Grounder’s flowers are doing much to hold up this building.” I replied.
“Why would you even want to help?” He asked, in genuine confusion.
“Because contrary to popular belief, I’m not heartless.”
“Didn’t you cause this?”
“What?! Why would I collapse a building?!”
“Because you’re evil?...”
“Please, enlighten me on your logic after we stop this building from collapsing.”
Flare sighed, and ran back into the flaming, and falling, building. I figured he had a fire resistance or something, being Beirezu’s blessed and all that.
I flew down, and landed next to Grounder, “Need some help?”
“Do you know where Mizu’s blessed is?” He asked.
“Nope, and I don’t have any desire to involve her in this.” I replied.
“Then can you take out a fire hydrant for me? I need water to help grow these things.” He said.
I used wind to throw a piece of rubble at the nearest fire hydrant. Water spewed out of hit.
“I meant open one, not break one.” Grounder sighed.
“You never specified,” I replied, “What, you want me to help hold the building up too?”
“Won’t oxygen make the fire worse? Flare is in there!”
“Hypothetically speaking, yeah, oxygen would make things worse, but isn’t he immune to fire?”
“Well-”
He was cut off by someone screaming. We looked up to see a huge mound of some kind of… thing.
I didn’t know what it was, but it was obviously some kind of mythical creature. It looked like some kind of giant black slime, but it was moving on it’s own. There was no visible face, and judging from the way it moved, it was not happy.
“What the hell is that thing?!” I exclaimed, flying up to get a better look. I saw Flare jump out of the building, and land on another one nearby. The creature stopped, and looked at us all.
“Missing… two…”
“IT CAN TALK?!” Flare yelled in surprise. I landed next to him.
“What the hell even is it?!” I asked.
“Whatever it is,” Grounder joined us on the roof, “we need to get rid of it. It’s trying to eat people!”
“We need to evacuate the area, quickly.” Flare stated.
“I already tried, nobody is listening.” Grounder responded, “I don’t want to use force…”
“I’ll do it,” I sighed, jumping down and landing in front of everyone. A couple screamed.
“It’s Streak!”
“What is he doing with Flare and Grounder?!”
“Did he cause the building to collapse and create that monster?!”
“Streak!” An idiot reporter ran up with a camera man, “What’s going on here? Do-”
“Fuck off,” I flipped them off, and then flew up.
“LISTEN UP PEOPLE, I’M ONLY SAYING THIS ONCE!” I yelled, cupping my hands over my mouth, “GET OUT OF HERE, NOW!”
“Or what?!” Some random brave guy demanded. I pulled out a knife, and landed right in front of him.
“Or else,” I waved the knife in front of him, “this will end up in your neck. Now scram!”
Everyone immediately took off running, some people screaming. I sighed, and flew back up to Flare and Grounder.
“Good job,” Grounder seemed mildly impressed.
“Don’t threaten them next time,” Flare sighed. I shrugged.
“Blessed… die…” the monster gurgled.
“Anti-religion much?” I asked.
“Let’s just defeat this thing.” Flare grumbled, obviously not happy about working with me again.
I smirked, and flew up, pulling some knives out, and throwing them at the monster. They completely bounced off of it.
I swooped down to collect my throwing knives, and threw a gust of wind at it, while Grounder created plants around it to try and trap it. Flare sent a burst of fire at it after my wind.
It did nothing.
“What the fuck, is this thing made out of titanium or something?!” I exclaimed.
“It’s completely absorbing our attacks!” Grounder panicked.
“Bloody hell,” Ashton sighed, “Streak do something!”
“Me?! What the hell am I supposed to do?!” I exclaimed.
“I don’t know!” Flare exclaimed, “You’re the villain here, that’s a villain!”
“That’s a thing,” I exclaimed, “Don’t compare me to it!”
“Oh god oh god oh god…” Grounder was panicking.
“It’s trying to kill everyone! You kill people! You’re the villain expert here!”
“I assassinate people, Flare! I’m a serial killer, not a mass murderer!”
“Well-”
We were cut off by a loud groaning noise from the monster, as someone flew down in front of it.
“Hey, wait-!” Flare started, but was interrupted by the stranger cutting the thing in half, and it exploded into dust. We all stared in shock.
“Honestly…” they flew up, and landed in front of us, “you three are terrible at this.”
The stranger was a girl, between Hunter and Flare’s height, with chocolatey brown skin, grey eyes, and black hair put up in twin ponytails. She wore a white tank top, and black leggings, with white runners. The girl carried a black and white scythe, and had two different wings. The left was a demon-like skeletal wing, while the right was an angel-style feather and skin covered wing.
I almost didn’t recognize her, until she spoke.
“Now that that’s taken care of,” she stated in an African accent, “My name’s Isabelle, Isabelle Quaren. I’m Seishin’s Blessed.”
“I would ask you to prove that, but…” Flare trailed off, eyeing her scythe, and her wings. Grounder stared in shock.
I grinned, and marched up to her, “Nice to meet ya! You probably already knew this, but I’m Streak!”
“Streak, an odd nickname, but a fitting one given your reputation,” Isabelle smiled slightly, “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Great! We have all five of us then,” Flare said, “Let’s find Mizu’s blessed, and schedule a meeting somewhere.”
“Sure,” I replied, “Just give me a minute.” I flew down into the alleyway, and found my bag, and saw Pearl.
“E- Streak?” She asked. I tossed her my bag.
“We’re meeting up somewhere, with Seishin’s blessed,” I said, “I’ll let you know where.” She nodded, and I flew back up.
“So where are we meeting?” Grounder asked.
“Somewhere private,” Flare replied.
“Well duh,” I retorted, “but where?”
“How about someone’s home?” Grounder suggested.
“I am not telling you where I live-” I began.
“Sure,” I yelped as Pearl appeared next to me again, holding a notebook.
“WHAT THE HELL, WHY DO YOU KEEP DOING THAT?!” I yelled.
“We can meet at my house, on the weekend. Maybe out of costume?...” She glanced at me, Flare, and Grounder.
“No way,” I replied.
“Okay, what’s your address?” Flare asked. Pearl scribbled it down 4 times in her notebook that she was holding, and tore the paper up, giving it to everyone. I sighed.
“How will we know it’s us though?” I asked.
"What if we all wear our blessings visibly?" Isabelle suggested.
"That's a good idea! That way we'll be able to tell." Grounder exclaimed.
"But my blessing is a ring.” Flare said, holding up his hand to prove it.
"Then you'll just have to show me your hand when you arrive." Pearl told him.
“Alright, time and date,” I said.
“This Saturday,” she replied, “around lunch?”
“Alright,” Flare nodded, “it’s agreed?”
Everyone nodded, and we split up. I flew Pearl and I back to the house, and quickly changed into some normal clothes.
“What the hell Sis?!” I exclaimed, “You want me to meet up with Flare and Grounder as myself?!”
“They agreed to be out of costume too,” she reminded me.
“I don’t think you understand, that’s giving them an opening to getting rid of me!” I replied, “How am I supposed to avoid them when they know who I am?!”
“Ellie, calm down!” She exclaimed, “You recognized Isabelle too, didn’t you? I know she recognized me. Besides, if they agree to be out of costume, you’ll know who they really are too. Besides, they wouldn’t dare attack a middle school student, it would cause an outrage.”
I took a deep breath, she was right. Even if I did reveal it to them, I had the age advantage. They would have to find proof before they could get rid of me.
We went downstairs, passing Hunter on the way, and just played games until dinner.
