Thrown Away Goals (Short Story)
Ronald stared at the picture in his hand. It was a picture of himself, his mother, and his little sister. His father was missing from the picture though, seeming he left when Marisa, his little sister, was born. The bastard left his poor mother to single handedly raise himself and Marisa. This is what lead to Ronald's high respect of women.
A few months after the photo was taken, Ronald's mother fell extremely ill. That's when Ronald started working, he wanted to get enough money to get his mother admitted to the hospital, and he wanted to be able to feed her, his sister, and himself. Ronald would often skip meals so they could eat.
Months passed and it got worse at work. Then the night came where, with a clouded mind, he took his life.
Weeks after his death came his mother's and his sister's. They dead of both starvation and illness.
"I might as well have killed them," Ronald whispers to himself, tears streaming down his face. "They died because I threw away my goals one night... They're dead because of me." He collapsed to his knees, sobbing.
