Shattered (Short Story)

And I've lost who I am,

And I cant understand,

Why my heart is so broken,

Rejecting your love.

Alex was digging though her closet, trying to find something to wear  to the World Summit later that evening. She froze when she came across a recognizable gray military outfit from her youth. It was her Confederate uniform. When she first got it when she was eleven, it hardly fit her, then when she was thirteen she grew into it. Thankfully the war ended when she was thirteen, so she only needed one uniform. Even though she claimed to have a hazy memory of those four years, she remembered every little detail. The blood, the injuries, the illness, how many people in her regiment died. As much as she hates to admit it, after that war, Alfred and hers trust was never the same again, the two still cared deeply for each other, but their original bond was broken from those events.

Without, love gone wrong;

Lifeless words, carry on,

But I know, all I know, is,

Is that the end's beginning.

Alfred walked past his sisters room, glancing toward into it. He froze when he heard faint sniffling sounds. She must have dug up her old uniform. He sighed, blaming himself for it all. He'd tried to say sorry to his sister many times, but he knew that all of his words wouldn't heal his baby sisters mind.

Who I am from the start,

Take me home, to my heart,

Let me go, and I will run,

I will not be silent.

Alex remembered all the times she'd wished to just run into her big brothers arms and hug him tightly  during those times. She remembered all the times she tried to run, and all the punishments she earned from Allen and her generals when she did so.

All this time spent in vain;

Wasted years, wasted gain,

All is lost, but hope remains,

And this wars not over.

Alfred tried many times to talk Allen out of making Alex fight, for years, yet every time Allen said no. Yet Alfred kept on asking and asking in hopes Allen would finally say yes. Meanwhile, the war carried on and the two siblings had to continue fighting each other.

There's a light,

There's a sun,

Taking all these shattered ones,

To the place, we belong,

And his love will conquer.

And I've lost who I am,

And I cant understand,

Why my heart is so broken,

Rejecting your love.

Alex sat on her bed, silent tears steaming down her face. She hated remembering everything. She hated being so depressed. She hated remembering how long her family neglected her. She just wanted to make all of those bad memories go away!

Without, love gone wrong;

Lifeless words, carry on,

But I know, all I know, is,

Is that the end's beginning.

Alfred only blamed himself for his sisters pain. He vowed to protect his little sister, and instead he directly hurt her.

Who I am from the start,

Take me home, to my heart,

Let me go, and I will run,

I will not be silent.

All this time spent in vain;

Wasted years, wasted gain,

All is lost, but hope remains,

And this wars not over.

Alex collapsed on her side, sobbing silently into her pillow. Alfred heard this all, he wished he could help his sister, but he'd just make it worse. He reluctantly walked away from Alex's room, a tear rolling down his cheek.

There's a light,

There's a sun,

Taking all these shattered ones,

To the place, we belong,

And his love will conquer.

(This love will conquer.)

Yesterday I died,

Tomorrows bleeding,

Fall into your sunlight.
