Howling (Short Story)

Berlitz howled, but no one came. He whined quietly, looking over at Ludwig. His poor owner was barely hanging on there. He was having to force his eyes to stay open as he clung to Blackie, who was curled up next to him. Spot whined quietly, pawing at Ludwig's head to keep him awake, at least this got a small chuckle from Ludwig.

Berlitz trotted over to Ludwig's head, giving it a lick to both refocus Ludwig to reality and to be sweet. Berlitz, Blackie, and Spot all knew they had to keep their owner alive at least until Aster came back.

A happy bark came from Spot, making the other two dogs look up. With Gilbert running behind him, Aster bolted over to Ludwig. Whining softly, he nuzzled Ludwig.

Blackie knew to get out of the way, so he trotted over next to Berlitz.

Gilbert knelt next to Ludwig, checking for a pulse, luckily, it was there. Seeing the blood soaking through Ludwig's shirt, he went wide eyed. He quickly pulled out his phone, dialing Kiku.

"I need Doctor Kiku, fast. Well, Ludwig needs you anyways."

"I'll be right there."

Luckily, thanks to Ludwig's dogs, Ludwig lived that night.
