Chapter 7: The Viscount's Party
As your carriage bounced along the streets, the stars sparkled in the navy blue sky. Madam Red's tight red dress brushed against yours as a slight breeze wafted through the window. Sebastian pushed his glasses up a little and started briefing you on who you would meet tonight.
" Aleister Chambers, the Viscount Druitt. He graduated from medical school but has not gone into practice. He's thrown several parties at his home. However, people say he simultaneously holds secret parties that only his intimates may attend. "
" I've heard rumors that he's into black magic and that sort of thing. " Madam Red spoke from beside you.
" So you suspect that at these underground parties, they perform ceremonies and sacrifice the prostitutes? " Lau asked.
The carriage went through the gates to the beautiful white house, and Grell stopped the horses in front of the doors.
" Tonight is the last party of the season. We only have one chance. " Ciel spoke.
The door opened, and the person outside held a hand out for someone to take it. You took his hand and stepped out as your dress came with you. You stepped out of the carriage, and Ciel followed after you. Your dress touched the ground and hovered over it by an inch. The skirt was long, and it expanded a little as it traveled downward. The bodice was tight, as if it was laying on top of a corset, which restricted your breathing. Your shoulders were shown, and the deep v-line in the bodice was slightly hidden behind a sheer layer of fabric connected to a small chocker on your neck. The dress was soft, and you could easily spin around in the dress and cause the layers to fan out before settling back against your legs.
Ciel offered you his arm, and you wrapped your right hand around his arm while your left held onto your dress so that it wouldn't drag on the stairs. Once entering the ballroom, you looked around at the many people and kept your grip on Ciel's arm firm so that you wouldn't get separated. Ciel placed his free hand on top of your hand, holding his arm, to reassure you. Madam Red led the group to a corner, where the plan started to occur.
" Y/n will play my niece visiting from the country, and Sebastian will play as Y/n's fiancee.
" Why do my butler and Y/n have to pretend to be someone they're not? We can be here with our titles. " Ciel asked.
" Because I always wanted a girl. "
" That's your reason!? "
" We can't let them find out the family Y/n belongs to, can we? She is going to take her father's company after all. We don't want to tie any rumors to her name. Plus, I heard rumors that Vicount Druitt likes anything in a skirt. And is she's betrothed, it makes the chances even greater." Madam Red whispered to Ciel.
" I still do not see the quarrel with revealing who we are. We have a clear mission, but there is no reason, for her to pretend to be my butlers fiancee. "
" Oh, is that your problem? " Madam Red said, gaining a cat-like grin.
" What? "
" You're upset she's Sebastian's fiancee and not yours. " Madam Red said, putting her fan closer to her face to hide her large grin.
" That's not it! " Ciel yelled, glaring at his aunt.
You sighed and remembered the same argument had spurred when you were at the townhouse.
( Flashback )
The chair you were sitting in was very plush and soft, making it a perfect seat for you to sit by the window and read your book while Ciel briefed everyone upstairs on the plan. He didn't want you to join the discussion not to get you any more involved. Sebastian provided you with a book to read while they had their meeting, and you were thoroughly enjoying the book. You were entranced by the words that you didn't hear the footsteps of your companion coming toward you.
" What are you reading? "
Ciel stood behind the small seat and placed his hand on the top of it while looking over your shoulder at the book.
" Sebastian gave me a book, to read while everyone was upstairs discussing what your plan was for tonight. It's very interesting. It's a story about a man and his companions getting stranded on an island, and on the island, there is a rich man, who has hunted every kind of beast there was. But he decides that he hasn't hunted every type of beast and wants to hunt them and place their heads on his wall, like the other animals he has hunted. It's very interesting so far. "
" Sounds, barbaric. "
" I'll take what I can get. How was your little meeting? "
" That is something I want to discuss with you. "
You looked down at the page number and closed your book, remembering the number. You looked up at Ciel and stared into his bright blue eye.
" What is it? "
" I need your help. " He said, sighing.
" I thought you didn't 'need' me. That's what you had said earlier. "
" Yes, well, I've changed my mind. I do need your help. "
" On one condition. "
" What? " He asked with his eye-widening.
" If you ever need any help, come to me immediately. Or let me help you when something comes up. We are close are we not? I want to help you, with what I can. That is my condition. "
Ciel stared down at you before sighing and nodding his head. You smiled up at him, happy that he finally is allowing you to help him.
" We are in agreement then. What is it you need help with. "
" Oh, she agreed! " Madam Red shouted from the corner of the doorway.
Madam Red came to your side with a massive smile on her face. Ciel flinched at her presence and speed while you looked up at her, worried. Madam Red held your hands and started pulling you out of the room, making you leave your book behind.
" This is great! I can dress you like you're my daughter. Come, I'll explain everything to you, while we get you ready for tonight. I am going to make you even more enchanting than you already are! You'll be Sebastian's fiancee tonight, and--"
" She will not be his fiancee! " Ciel shouted at your retreating form.
( Flashback Over )
You sighed before tapping Ciel's arm, bringing his attention towards you.
" We need to find the Viscount first, arguing can happen later. "
" R-Right. "
You departed from madam Red and started walking through the sea of people while Ciel and Sebastian walked on either side of you. Your grip on Ciel's arm loosened, and you walked comfortably by his side. You looked around through the crowd for the Viscount while Sebastian took your left arm and wrapped it around his right. Then he took Ciel's arm off of yours and pulled you to his side.
" What are you doing? " You asked.
" Well, I must play the part of your fiancee. "
" Sebastia--"
" Ciel! "
A woman's high-pitched shout cut off Ciel's words. You turned and saw Elizabeth running towards your small group. Ciel stiffened as Sebastian pulled you away from the situation.
" My lady, let us walk this way. "
Ciel glared at his butler's back but turned to face Elizabeth, who smiled up at him brightly. Sebastian led you towards the center of the room, where people were dancing. Sebastian took your right hand within his left while his right hand held your waist. The slow dance started as the music flooded around the room. Sebastian guided you on the dance floor as you kept your eyes out for Viscount Druitt.
" Lord, Druitt's hair is spun like silk tonight. "
" Oh, and his white suit matches perfectly with his skin. "
You looked towards the two women who were talking and saw their eyes looking towards a tall man looking around the dance floor. His platinum blonde hair was long, touching his shoulders, while his skin was fair. He wore a white suit, and his purple eye was looking around the people dancing. There was eye contact when his eyes came upon you, and you held it. Eventually, another couple blocked your view, and your eye contact was cut off.
" I've found him. "
" Yes, and it seems he has already found interest in you, my lady. "
" Good, that's what we wanted. "
The music continued to play, and you knew that you wouldn't get the chance to talk with the Viscount until the music stopped and everyone's figures were still.
" How is your reading? " Sebastian asked, referring to the book you were reading at the townhouse.
" It's great! I'm enjoying the book very much. You have good taste in books, Sebastian. "
" Thank you, my lady. It would not be fitting of a Phantomhive butler if I did not know the interest in the guests. "
His sentence caused the questions you had asked yourself all along to rise back into your mind. You knew Sebastian was not ordinary or had some exceptional talent to do the things he does. His reflexes are quick, but to be as fast as lightning was impossible, yet he proved that wrong. He also knew everything about everyone, and he seemed to know what to do in every situation, with calculations that had to be prepared days in advance.
" Sebastian, who exactly are you? You're not a regular butler, and you can do impossible things. You know the interests of everyone, and you're faster than an average person. So, tell me who you are. "
Sebastian observed you for a moment, his eyes connecting with yours. Slowly, a slight smirk placed itself on his lips, and he leaned towards your right ear.
" I am simply one hell of a butler, my lady. "
You sighed, knowing that would be his obvious answer. The music had stopped, and everyone stilled on the dance floor. You clapped for the musicians along with everyone else.
" You danced like a lovely jay bird, miss. "
You turned towards the man who had approached you and saw it was the Viscount Druitt. His purple eyes were trained on your figure, while the red broach enchanted your eyes on his chest. Sebastian bowed beside you, placing his right hand on his chest.
" Miss, I'll go get you something to drink. "
Sebastian left your side and walked into the crowd, disappearing. You curtsied to the Viscount and stood straight after the curtsy.
" Good evening Lord Druitt. "
" Are you having fun-- "
Viscount Druitt took your left hand within his and placed a kiss on your knuckles. His lips were warm against your skin, but you felt uncomfortable. You hid how you felt and continued to smile at the man in front of you slightly.
" --my dear jay? "
" Yes, I am. It's a wonderful party, Lord Druitt, so color me impressed. " You said, taking your hand back.
" I am pleased to hear, such flattering words from you. I am happy to through this party knowing I've attracted such a beautiful jay bird. "
Viscount Druitt came closer and placed his gloved hand on your waist. He pushed your side against him as his face came closer to yours.
" Is there anything that I can do to. . .make this party more entertaining? " He said as his fingers danced further down your waist.
You felt a shudder crawl up your spine, and you wanted nothing more than to get his hand off of your waist. His head practically rested against yours as he was so close.
" Do you know of something that is more amusing? " You asked.
Viscount Druitt's arm remained around your waist, but he pulled you in front of himself, tilting your chin up with his free hand. His eyes were still focused on yours, and his smile was mischievous. You knew this was the point you needed to reach with the Viscount. The plan was working well, and according to Ciel's plan, everything was happening.
" But of course. And I'm willing to tell you, my darling jay. "
You could feel someone glaring in your direction, making your stomach turn. You couldn't turn your head to see who was looking your way because you had to give all of your attention to the Viscount. If you had turned your head, you would have seen Madam Red trying to calm down her nephew, while Sebastian couldn't look in your direction for the time being.
" Oh? Then tell me, you have peaked my curiosity. "
" You are interested? "
" Oh, but of course. You cannot tell a lady about something so entertaining and sweep the rug from underneath her feet unless you plan to show me. " You said, leaning forward, pushing yourself closer.
' Let's get this over with! ' You shouted in your head, cringing from your acting.
" All right, my blue jay. Follow me. "
Viscount Druitt kept his arm around your waist as he walked away from the dancers and towards a set of stairs. As you climbed the stairs, you looked back and spotted Ciel. His eyes were following you up the stairs. You nodded at him and turned on the stairs to continue traveling upward. It was dark when you were at the top of the steps, and Viscount Druitt, pulled a pink curtain back, revealing a door.
" Come in here. " He said, pushing the door open.
You entered the hallway, and Viscount Druitt led you down the hall and towards a door on the left. He opened it and gestured for you to walk through the door again.
" We're going to a very nice place--quite amusing. "
You entered the room, and Viscount Druitt followed you, shutting the door. You looked around the room and saw that it was indeed a bedroom, but there was a sickly sweet smell. You covered your nose and mouth, pretending like you were hiding your smile.
" It's a very nice place, my blue jay. "
You felt your eyes quickly look around the room, but the Viscount walked behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist, hugging you to his back. His right hand traveled up your body and held the hand that you placed over your nose.
" Why hold your nose? In take the sweet scent. "
" I don't believe--"
" If only I could keep you. You seemed truly flattering and interesting, but things must be done as they should be. "
He was stronger than you and pulled your hand away from your nose. The sweet smell in the room invaded your senses, and you felt yourself start to become limp, as the scent had guided you to faint. The Viscount held you in his arms as you fainted and kept you close with your head leaning against his collar.
