Chapter 19: Letting Go

Mary entered your room with a tea set and placed the set on a small table in your room. Mary walked over to your bed and lightly shook you. You stirred and opened your eyes, feeling a headache. You turned to your side and looked up at Mary.

" Good day, my lady. How are you feeling? "

" Not great. My head hurts. "

" I thought as much, seeing as you were so upset last night. I brought you some tea and medicine that should help. "

   " Thank you. "

You sat up on the bed and pulled the sheets off your legs. Mary brought over some slippers, and she set them on the ground. You stood up and let your feet slide into the slippers. The smell of tea went through the room, and you followed the scent toward the small table. You sat down as Mary started to prepare your tea.

" How long have I been asleep? "

" It's only an hour after lunch. "

" I slept that long? " You asked, rubbing your forehead.

" Yes, but do give yourself some grace my lady. It was a very emotional night. "

Mary set a teacup in front of you, and you took the teacup and started drinking your tea, feeling it warm your body. Then, you took Mary's medicine and swallowed it with your tea.

" There was one more thing, I wanted to give you my lady. "

You looked toward Mary and saw her bring out a book from her skirt pocket. The book looked old, and the leather was stained multiple shades of brown. The string that tied the book on the spine was gone, and the pages were held together by glue. Mary set the book on top of the table and slid it toward you.

" This was left in the carriage. "

You picked up the book and didn't remember taking or bringing anything to the house. You opened the book, and there was a piece of paper that slid out and landed on your table. You looked down at the paper and started to read the writing.

Thought you might want a look at this, Deary. This was upstairs.

From the nickname, you knew it was Undertaker who had left the book.

' So, that's why he went back into the house. '

You thanked Mary and dismissed her. You were left alone in the room with the book in your hands. You took one more sip of your tea and opened the book, reading the entries. On the very first page was a name written down harshly.

Charles Harvey

' This must be the diary of the husband. I would have thought the Yard would have found this and taken it in as evidence. '

You flipped through the pages and read each one carefully. There wasn't much to read, but when you started reading about the kids kidnapped, you disregarded your tea and focused. Before you, there were nine other children kidnapped, and when you escaped, you were the only one alive. The other two cells were occupied by a girl and a boy, who died the day before you were rescued. The rest of the bodies were left in the cells to rot or be eaten by the rats. When you started reading about the kidnapper's time with you, you realized that the married couple was beginning to have problems after your kidnapping. For example, the wife found out that the husband had been using the last room for his devilish deeds when he could have been having fun in bed with his wife. Another time, the wife forgot to tend to the garden, and their produce got ruined by the deer. As a result, their marriage was starting to crumble while you were there.

The last entry was the night they were drunk together and got captured by the Yard. Charles was writing in his notebook over ideas. He was planning to kill his wife because their marriage was crumbling, but Scotland Yard broke down their front door before he could. You shut the book and set it on the table. You picked up your tea and started sipping it to clear away your headache.

' So I was the last one the duo would kidnap together? I wonder what the husband's plans were after killing his wife. '

You stood up and left your tea on the table. You took some paper and started writing to Ciel. The letter spoke of your return to the Phantomhive Manor tomorrow. You would return now that you understood your past and figured out the missing pieces. You walked downstairs and handed Mary the letter to be delivered, then you walked through your estate, thinking.

' Now, that I know, I guess my past explains why father doesn't want me at our estate alone. He's afraid I'll be taken again. I need to send them a letter, but I think I'll wait to do that. '

Undertaker's words flashed through your mind for a moment, and you recalled every word he said.

" And remember, Deary, what you learned today was in the past. Leave what was in the past in the past. Do not bring it to the future. Little lover boy cannot move on from the past until he gets revenge. But those Harveys are dead, and their souls are long gone. Though you can cry now and weep, leave the revenge, hatred, and all of those feelings in the past. Or they will hurt you now. "

' Letting go, huh? I don't think I have the option. The Harvey's are dead, so there's no one for me to be mad at or seek revenge on. It was evil, but it was the human kind. It doesn't look like anyone like Sebastian, a demon, was involved. I couldn't remember anything, and my parents kept that from me because they didn't want to traumatize me. There's really nothing for me to be mad at, except for the fact that it happened, but that wouldn't do any good. '

Slowly, you started to let the situation go. Of course, you wouldn't forget what you learned or what happened, but you knew there was nothing to be done about it. Unlike Ciel, you had no one to seek to have revenge or to interrogate. But unfortunately, Ciel still had people out there that are alive who hurt him. You thought about all of this through your walk in the estate, and slowly, you were letting go.
