Chapter 13: The Demon Hound Pt. 3
The fire crackled, in the fireplace, while you sat on a chair near the heat. There was a book in your hands, and you only had a few pages left before you could find a new book to read. The rain was beating against your window hard, making it the perfect time to read a book. But, unfortunately, you had to shut your book, as someone knocked on your door.
" Come in. "
You stood up from your seat and faced the door. Ciel walked into your room with Sebastian behind him. Sebastian shut your door and stood by the door while Ciel walked up to you.
" Y/n, I wanted to talk about your behavior today. "
You knew this would happen, so you nodded and sat back in your chair. Ciel sat across from you and connected his eye with your E/c eyes.
" Please explain. "
You nodded, took a deep breath in, and released it. You spoke your honest words and didn't leave anything out of your story.
" Recently, I've been remembering something from my past. It started at the Viscount's party. I remembered something that I must have blocked from my mind, all these years, and ever since then, I've been remembering everything little by little. Today, when we were by the sea, I could hear past voices of a man yelling and my voice screaming at him. Then, at the wooden stake, I suddenly got very anxious, when I was tied up. I just wanted to escape the binds and get the gag on my mouth by any means possible. "
Ciel listened to every word you said and didn't take his eyes off you. He continued to be silent after you finished your explanation.
" And you have never had any of this happen before? " He asked softly.
" No, it's never happened to me. "
" What can you inquire from these memories? "
" Well, it seems I was kidnapped when I was younger. . .Ciel, do you remember when I asked you why we had stopped seeing each other before the fire took your estate? "
" I do. "
" Maybe something happened to me when I was younger. Something so traumatic like a kidnapping, that my mind blocked it from my memory. That could be why my father wouldn't let me leave my estate to visit you, before the fire. "
Ciel thought about it for a moment, but before he could tell you his thoughts, a noise erupted through the house. You stood up from your chair and looked toward the door, where Sebastian stood.
" Let's go. " Ciel said, stepping forward.
You followed Ciel, with Sebastian following you to the basement of Lord Henry's estate. You spotted Mey-Rin sitting on the floor when entering the cells, with Bard and Finny beside her.
" Mey-Rin, what happened? " You questioned the maid.
She didn't say anything but pointed towards the cell where the village put Lord Henry, but no one was inside the cell. Instead, a pool of blood was inside the cell that trailed to the wall and had been knocked through, creating a hole. The rain outside dripped into the cell, mixing with the blood. Everyone was in shock, especially Mey-Rin. You walked toward Mey-Rin and helped her stand up.
" Let's go upstairs to discuss this. "
You led Mey-Rin out of the basement with everyone following you. Mey-Rin clung to you the entire way to the entrance. As you walked through the entrance hall, a man burst through the door, soaked from the rain. The man stumbled and fell to the floor, shivering from the cold.
" Th-The great demon hound! "
It was decided that everyone would follow the man to where he wanted to take everyone. So you ran with Mey-Rin out of the estate, behind everyone, towards where the stranger led you. The path looked familiar, and you understood why by the time you got closer. The man had led everyone to the cobblestone walls and wooden stakes that you were trapped in earlier that day. The townspeople were gathered around in a circle, singing their lullaby about a bad dog. Your eyes looked into the middle where Lord Henry's body was lying against the cobblestone wall, where Ciel had been trapped. His right hand was missing, and his eyes were rolled into the back of his skull.
Sebastian walked through the crowd and towards the dead body. He crouched in front of the body and examined it as the villagers kept cheering.
" Great demon hound! Great demon hound, forgive us! "
Lightning flashed in the sky, revealing the body more, and now that Angela could see his body, she fainted. Finny caught Angela before she could hit the floor.
" Master, could we head back to the estate? " Finny asked, looking toward Ciel.
Ciel nodded, and together everyone walked back to the Henry Estate. Finny went off on his own in the house while everyone sat at the dining table to discuss the events.
" It's a shame, young master, after you'd already declared that the case was closed. "
" Shut up. " Ciel snapped at Sebastion.
" Finny, did you put Angela to bed? " You asked, looking towards Finny, who had just entered the room.
" Yes, I put her to bed for now, but she seems very tired, yes. "
You nodded and took a seat at the table. When you sat down, the discussion of events happened.
" This village was completely isolated from the rest of society out of fear of the demon hound's curse. I thought we established that the hound was faked by Lord Henry so that he could rule here. But now Lord Henry has. . ."
" Are you sure those bite wounds really weren't from the demon hound, like the villagers say? " Bard suggested.
" Maybe he's mad at being blamed for Lord Henry's bad deeds! " Mey-Rin also inclined.
" Well, we can say that no human did this, at least. " Sebastian said, smirking at Ciel.
" What does that mean? " Bard questioned.
" Nevermind. We will discuss more of this matter in the morning. It's late and I am tired. "
Ciel stood up from the table and left everyone in the dining room. Everyone looked at each other before leaving to go to their rooms. You stepped into your room and shut the door behind yourself, locking it. Then, you slipped into your bed, looking out of the window at the dreary scenery. You didn't think you could sleep, but the sound of the fire in your fireplace calmed you a bit. You slowly fell asleep to the sounds of the crackling fire and had peaceful dreams.
Ciel sat at the dining table in the morning, with Sebastian serving him breakfast and tea. Tanaka stood to the side and smiled while holding his cup of hot water. Bard stood next to Tanaka, watching Ciel eat while smoking a cigarette.
" You're certainly carefree. " Ciel commented.
" There is no need to rush. " Sebastian stated.
" Hmm, well you could make yourself useful and wake up--"
" Sebastian! "
Mey-Rin ran into the room, with Finny behind her, rushing to the front of the table where Sebastian stood beside Ciel's sitting figure.
" What is it? You're making a fuss. "
" We can't find Angela anywhere! " Finny said quickly.
" Oh, she said there were some medicinal herbs growing by the fen, soo she was going to go pick them. " Bard said, never taking the cigarette out of his mouth.
" She went to the fen by herself? "
" When there might really be a demon hound lurking about? " Mey-Rin yelled, making Bard realize what was wrong with Angela going by herself.
" Oh, hell. "
" Why would she be picking herbs at a time like this? " Finny questioned, not able to look anyone in the eyes.
" Oh, well, it looked like she was worried about how pale you were. "
" She did it for me? "
Feeling guilty, Finny ran out of the mansion to search for Angela, with Bard and Mey-Rin ready to run with him to help search for the missing maid.
" Let's go, Sebastian! "
Sebastian didn't move from his spot and instead sighed.
" What's wrong with you?! Are you a red-blooded man or what? Never mind! Let's go, Mey-Rin! Where's old man Tanaka? "
Bard found Tanaka dressed, ready for an adventure in the jungle, with a shotgun leaning against his shoulder.
" He's on board. Right, let's go, men! "
" Yes, sir! "
The trio left Ciel and Sebastian in the dining room alone. Ciel finished his breakfast and smiled up at Sebastian.
" Well, What color is your blood? It looks as though we've developed a need to rush. Put on a first-rate show for me, Sebastian. And go wake Y/n. I will dress. "
" Yes, my lord. "
Ciel stood from the table and walked to his chambers to get dressed. Sebastian walked towards your room, maintaining his frown. He knocked on your door and called for you.
" My lady, it is urgent you wake. "
Sebastian didn't hear anything from the other side of the door. There were no shuffling or groans, and he didn't detect any life form in the room.
" I am coming inside, Lady Y/n. "
Sebastian took the handle and tried to turn it, but the door was locked from the inside. Sebastian raised his eyebrow at the locked door. He let go of the door handle and stepped back before raising his right leg. He kicked the door down, and the door fell against the floor, with the hinges and doorknob still attached to the door frame. However, there was no one in the room. The bed sheets were not correctly fixed on the bed, and the biggest was that there was a hole in the wall where the window once was. Sebastian walked to the other side of the bed to inspect the scene, and he felt slightly relieved that there was no blood on the sheets, floor, or even the hole in the wall.
" How interesting. "
Sebastian left the bedroom and went into his master's room. Ciel slipped don his black cape when Sebastian entered the room.
" Well? "
" It seems Lady Y/n has been taken by the demon hound, my lord. '
" What? "
Ciel was now confused about the demon hound. He now had a new theory, but he became confused since you had been kidnapped. He couldn't determine what the demon hound or their owner would want with you. He hadn't the slightest idea.
" Then it seems we must work at a quicker pace. "
