Chapter 1: Meeting the Earl
For the sake of events that will happen in the future, the ages will be changed to be older. The characters such as Ciel, Alois, and Elizabeth "Lizzy" will be seventeen.
The sun was shining brightly on such a warm day. Birds flew through the sky and sang their sweet tune. With a marvelous blue color, Butterflies passed by the L/n Household as a confident woman was peering out of the window. Y/n gazed out of the window at the bright and cheerful day. On days like these, you liked to go outside and read, but today wasn't a good day for you to do so internally.
" Do I have to go Mary? Why can I not stay here? " You asked, turning towards your maid, who had finished packing your suitcase.
" Yes, Y/n, you do. You cannot stay here, while your parents are away. "
" But why? "
" Because it would be improper for a young woman to be left alone in her household, while no family of hers is present. "
You rolled your eyes and walked towards your bed, sitting down on the soft sheets. You looked towards the suitcase your maid had prepared and sighed.
" But the staff will still be here. You will be here. Why can I not be here? "
Mary stopped packing your suitcase and walked over to your side. She sat beside you on the bed and took your hand between hers. Like always, she would comfort you in times of distress. She has always been by your side, ever since she was hired. But while the head of the house and his wife would be away and the daughter being taken care of by another family, she was left to stay in the house and watch over the rest of the staff. To you, the staff as part of your family, and you enjoyed the presence of everyone in the house, and you didn't want to leave, even if it did look improper.
" As I said, it would not seem proper to others. A lady of status cannot be left on her lonesome with only her staff. People will talk, and your father doesn't want there to be any trouble for you, when you become the head of the family one day. He is only looking out for you. "
" Still, I would much rather be here. I don't really know Earl Phantomhive. Father said he is my age, and that I knew him when we were younger, but It has been a long time since then, and the fire that took his parents has also been a long time away. I don't really know him. "
" But your father trusts him. After all, they do business together, and your father is an admitted supporter of the earl. Maybe you two will get along. "
You only sighed as Mary continued to rub your shoulders before walking back to your suitcase and finishing the packing. You picked your bag up and walked out of your room, following behind Mary when the packing was done. Mary led you to the front doors, and she opened them for you.
" Thank you. "
You stepped through the door, and Mary closed the door behind herself. Your parents were waiting for you at the bottom of the staircase. You walked down the stairs, and the coachman took your suitcase and put it inside the carriage. You walked towards your parents, engulfing your mother in a hug.
" Please be careful you two. I don't want you both to get into any trouble, or do anything to draw attention to yourselves. "
" Are we not supposed to tell you that? " Your mother asked, smiling down at you.
" We all know, that I am less reckless than you two are. "
" I disagree, but let us say we are even. "
Your father hugged you and your mother together, and his embrace was loving.
" My two girls. I couldn't imagine my life without either of you. "
" I can't imagine life without you either dear, but I do imagine a life without your snoring. " Your mother said, looking up at your father.
" That was rude and I am hurt. " Your father dramatically said, pouting.
Your mother only shrugged her shoulders and embraced you tighter, letting your father gasp in surprise. You were going to leave the estate first, and the coachman would come back and take them to the port, where they would board a boat, to go to America. For what business, you do not know, but you didn't want to know.
" Be careful, both of you. " You said to them before leaving the hug.
" You be careful as well. Don't cause too much trouble for Earl Phantomhive. " Your dad said, patting your head.
" I won't. "
Your parents kissed your cheeks before you hugged Mary and walked into the carriage. You waved at the three people before your carriage lurched forward, leaving your estate. You leaned against the carriage window feeling a small breeze blow by every so often. It was a lovely carriage ride, and you enjoyed the peace, quiet, and beautiful scenery. You felt yourself relax before the tenseness came back to your shoulders when the Phantomhive Manor came into vision.
' Well, this is it. '
You could see two men standing outside the manor doors as you got closer, and when your carriage stopped, one of the men opened the door for you and held his hand out for you to take. You took his hand, and he helped you out of the carriage. His skin was pale, and his black hair was long but short in the same way. His red eyes pierced you, and his smile was mischievous. You assumed he was a butler by his uniform, and when your feet touched the ground, his gloved hand let go of yours.
" Welcome, Lady L/n to the Phantomhive Manor. My name is Sebastian Michaelis the senior staff member of the manor. If you require anything do let me know. My master is waiting for you, so let us greet him. "
You nodded and followed Sebastian up the steps, where the Earl was waiting for you. The man was tall, and his skin was pale but not as pale as the butlers. His black hair was almost the shade of blue. His eyes were a bright blue that looked like deep pools of sapphire. You were curious why there was an eye patch over his right eye, but you didn't ask him any questions, thinking the fire from years ago was the cause. A cane was in his left hand while his right hand was held out towards you.
" Hello, Lady L/n. It is a pleasure to have you stay with us. I am Earl Ciel Phantomhive."
His voice wasn't too deep or too high but in a perfect range. You placed your hands in his and shook his hand.
" It's a pleasure to be here. Thank you for allowing me a home while my family is away. "
" Your father is a good man, I would do him any favor if he asked. "
" That is good to hear. "
You let go of his hand, and he turned towards the doors. His head turned to the side, and he looked at you with a smile that said he was hiding something.
" Please come inside. Sebastian has made a small treat for us, this afternoon. "
You nodded your head, not saying a word, and walked inside. Sebastian opened the door, holding your suitcase, and Ciel let you roam inside first. Once you stepped inside, someone fell down the stairs before you, and she landed on her side.
" Ow! That, hurt yes it did! "
" Finny! Didn't I tell you to watch Mey-Rin? "
" Well yes, but--"
" Then, what the bloody hell happened? "
In front of you, a woman was pushing herself off the floor. She was wearing a maid dress, with dark purplish hair tied up with a bonnet. She had big round glasses on, but there was a crack on one of the lenses. Coming down the stairs were two men. One had blonde hair and deep blue eyes. A cigarette hung from his lips, helping the woman up from the floor. The other man coming down the stairs was blonde with blue eyes, but he was wearing boots and a gardening hat.
" What is going on here? " Ciel asked his staff.
" Young master! Finny and I were running to--"
" I don't much care, just don't cause too much trouble for our guest. " Ciel gestured to you.
You stepped forward and curtsied a little. You looked at each of them before speaking.
" Hello, I'm Y/n, from the L/n Household. I will be staying here for some time while my father and mother are away doing business. " You said with a small smile.
" Oh, really? I'm Baldroy, the 'chief'. This if Finny the Gardner, and May-Rin the maid. " Bladroy said, pointing at each of the three.
" Oh, It's nice to meet you. Yes, it is! " Mey-RIn said, smiling brightly.
" Yeah! Welcome to the Phantomhive Manor! " Finny said.
You could practically see flowers floating around them, and their aura made you genuinely smile and start to feel comfortable. Ciel sighed and brought you towards the stairs. You followed him upstairs and into his office. He sat in his office chair, setting his cane to lean against his desk. You sat on the other side of the desk and looked at the dessert in front of you.
Sebastian stood on Ciel's side of the desk and gestured to the desserts on the desk.
" Today, we an Easy Rasberry Fool. It consists of, fresh raspberries picked from the garden this morning, with powdered sugar, heavy cream, and a touch of lime. Please, do enjoy. "
Ciel took his spoon and started eating the dessert. He seemed to be enjoying it, but you didn't touch your spoon. You only stared at the dessert, feeling guilt for not eating.
" Is it not to your liking? " Ciel asked, noticing his guest not eating.
" Oh, it's not that. It looks delicious. "
" Then why are you not eating? Do you not have an appetite? "
You thought you were looking impolite in Ciel's eyes. His guest was served a delicious treat upon her arrival, but she had not eaten it. You didn't want to seem impolite, so you were quick to explain.
" No, you see, I'm allergic to raspberries. You wouldn't have known that, so do not worry about offending me. "
" . . .You're allergic to raspberries? I apologize, Sebastian please take the dessert away. "
" Yes, my lord. "
Sebastian took both plates and left the room. Ciel continued to question you over your allergy.
" I apologize for my insolence. I did not consider the fact that you might be allergic. But please do tell me more. I don't believe I have heard of someone being allergic to raspberries. "
" Not many people are allergic, and you didn't know, so I hold no illness towards you. From my research raspberries contain several allergens that will cause a reaction. I have a few of the common symptoms. For example, when I consume a raspberry, my lips will swell, I will break into hives, and become lightheaded. Sometimes I have fainted due to my allergy. "
" Is it only raspberries? "
" Yes, as far as I am aware. My mother has studied medicine, so we developed our research around my allergy to raspberries. Usually, it's any berry in the family, but sometimes it can be narrowed down to a few. In my case, I am only allergic to raspberries. Others might be allergic to strawberries and blueberries. I am lucky to only be allergic to one fruit. "
" I see. Thank you for informing me. I will inform the staff later on today about your allergy. "
" I would appreciate it. Thank you again, for letting me stay here for the time being. "
" It is no trouble at all. If there is anything you need while you stay here, do ask Sebastian or me. We will offer you the best the Phantomhives have to offer. "
" Thank you. I believe I will retire to my room. May I be shown where I am sleeping? "
" Yes. Sebastian, show her to her room. "
" Yes, my lord. Please follow me, my lady. "
You had jumped a little, not realizing Sebastian had gotten back so quickly. Ciel smirked a little and held a chuckle in his throat from your reaction at Sebastian's speed. You followed the butler out of the study and down the hall. After losing count of the doors, Sebastian pushed two doors open.
" This will be your room, my lady. I hope it is too your liking. "
The room suited your style, and you felt your shoulders lower.
" Yes, thank you Sebastian. "
Sebastian sent you a smile and bowed his head with his hand on his stomach.
" Please excuse me. There is much to do with little time. "
Then, he shut your doors and walked down the hall. You listened to his heels click against the floor until you couldn't hear them anymore. You walked to the bed and sat down on the comfortable sheets of the bed. You looked towards the window out at the world. You took a deep breath and fell on your back onto the sheets. The deep breath of air left your lungs, and you stared at the ceiling.
' Alright, let's see where this is going to go. '
