The only thing that filled her mind was darkness. A shadowy abyss where her memories and emotions were kept locked away.

She still saw those four faces. Those kids, her friends.

Could she even call them her friends?

In the end, they were just the same as everyone else. People who didnt lift a finger to stop what had been done to her.

Her mind drifted to another girl she called a friend. She still remembered the girl's flowing black hair and minty green eyes. How she was the only one to stand up for her and protect her.

Only to lay lifeless on the floor, the scientists all shaking their heads and saying, "We messed up."

She still remembered that terrifying feeling of thinking, "That's going to happen to me."

But it never did.

No, she got stronger. Her power was beyond anything she'd ever imagined she could do.

That's when she decided she wanted her own life. She wasnt going to live by rules anymore.

So here I am now, she thought. Lying about myself to stay safe.

She wasn't just doing this to keep herself safe, either. This was her only way to protect the one person she could ever trust anymore.

"Katherine?" Isa asked. Katherine quickly looked up. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," Katherine said. "Why do you ask?"

"You looked like you were sleeping," Isa said.

"Well.. I'm not," Katherine said. "Uh- You need anything?"

"I was gonna go get something to eat," Isa said with a shrug.

"Alright," Katherine said. She got up and went to find her wallet, while Isa grabbed a little sports bag. Katherine turned and stared at her.

"What do you need that for?" she asked.

"Well, you never know what could be happening," Isa said. "Bank robbery.. cat stuck in a tree."

"Cats dont get stuck in trees," Katherine said.

"Ok well, they might," Isa said. "And that's when I'm there to save them!"

Katherine just chuckled softly. "Sure, alright," she said, handing Isa a few dollars. Isa smiled at her before going over to the door. "Dont be out too long," Katherine said, sitting back down.

"I wont," Isa said, before walking out the door. Katherine sighed softly.

Isabelle Evans. The only person she wanted in her life, and the only person she could trust.

At least, for now.

Little did she know what her friend would bring back that day.

Or rather, who.
