Party Hard
You weren't the only person to stumble across the party. It was growing steadily as more people joined in and more food and drink appeared. More of the crew found their way to it as well, joining you, Shachi, and Penguin in the festivities. You were a few drinks in when you noticed a certain white bear squeezing his was through the crowd.
"Bepo!" You swung an arm around wildly to get his attention, nearly falling off of the barrel you were using as a chair.
He managed to make his way to you, giving a worried glance to Shachi who was passed out against the barrel. You don't know where Penguin disappeared to but Jean Bart went with him so you weren't stressing.
"Is he okay?" Bepo gave Shachi a poke to the face and the man grumbled in return.
"Oh yeah." You giggled. "He had a bit too much to drink is all."
Your captain came into view to stand near Bepo, watching some of the crew pass by to refill their drinks. "Do we even know what this is all for?" He asked you, a slight smile on his face.
"No idea, but the food's good and the alcohol is better." You got to your feet and offered Law your mug.
He was about to turn you down until he smelled the strong alcohol. Most of the people were drinking the sake or rum, you'd gone for whiskey instead. And apparently that was something he was willing to drink. He took it, sipping at it cautiously before wrapping both his hands around it and giving you an even wider smile.
"I wasn't planning on sticking around but I guess I could for a while. Let's get some more of this." He motioned for you to lead the way, already finishing off the whiskey.
"Sure thing captain." You skipped ahead, having no problem weaving through the people, even with the alcohol in your system making the world spin around you.
Law had a much harder time getting through the crowd and almost lost sight of you a couple times as people jostled him around. For someone who didn't like being touched, you handled the mass of people quite well compared to your captain. That could have been the alcohol working its magic though.
You stopped at a table full of drinks. Most were in huge barrels while some others were in glass bottles, a few empty ones littered the surrounding ground.
"Here we go!" You said cheerily after scanning the bottles for the one you wanted. It hadn't been opened yet and you weren't planning on anyone else finding it.
Law finally got to you, glaring at the last person who bumped into him. "Maybe I won't stay, there's too much going on here."
A pout took over your features. This would probably be the only time you'd get to see him drink and relax for a while and you weren't about to let this chance pass you by.
"There's a quiet spot I found on the beach. We could go there for a bit." You suggested. That walk you took by yourself earlier was going to come in handy.
"I could go for some quiet time." He said, his normally sharp eyes softening a bit at the thought.
"C'mon then, there shouldn't be anyone there." You waved the bottle in his face and found a fresh mug on the table since Law took yours.
This time you were able to think clearly enough to go around the mass of people so he didn't have to fight his way through them. You paused once you reached sand and took a second to remember where the spot was.
"So you know where you're going?" Law stooped down low enough to pluck the bottle from your hand and fill his cup back up.
"Yes." You said with certainty, eyeing a group of rocks close to the waves. They were hard to see at first through the darkness as night had fallen but you were able to make out the perch. "Right over here."
Up close they were much bigger than you thought, easily towering over you. But you weren't deterred. You kicked off your sandals and climbed up them like it was nothing, letting out a satisfied huff once you reached the top. Law stared up at you questioningly.
"How much have you had to drink again?" He had no problem getting up on the rock despite his hands being full and took a seat by you.
"Not enough apparently."
He filled your cup in response and set the bottle down in between you and him. "You're right, this is a good spot."
You took a long drink and nodded, shuddering at the taste of alcohol. It was too dark to make out the details of the ocean but you could hear the waves and feel the slightly chilly wind that came off of it. The sounds of the party had faded to a dull roar and there wasn't another soul in sight. It was calm while still holding the sounds of life in the background.
"Have you found out how to open that locket yet?"
"No." You sighed, now drinking faster. You almost never took the necklace off and fiddled with it constantly, even now your hand went to touch it without thinking. You'd tried everything you could to open it to no avail. It was frustrating but you knew there had to be a way you hadn't tried yet.
Law chuckled. "The offer to break it open still stands."
"No thanks." Your lips curled up into a smile as you grabbed the bottle and drank straight from it. "I'll figure it out eventually."
"Don't drink all of that." Law snatched it from you and gave up on using a cup as well.
"You know," You stretched, feeling more dizzy than ever. "We haven't really talked much."
"That's because as the captain I have a lot to keep up on." He smirked and handed the bottle back. It wasn't going to last long at this pace.
"Well not now you don't."
"Fine, what's gnawing away at you?"
"I dunno..." You frowned as you tried to make your fuzzy mind work. "What do you like to do for fun?"
Law let out a small laugh. "Asking the important questions are we?"
"Look, I'm trying, cut me some slack." You joined in, laughing with him.
"I don't do much for fun, but I like getting some sleep in whenever I can."
"Is that why you always look so tired?"
"No, it's because the crew drives me crazy."
"They are a handful." You agreed, thinking about how often they tired you out. And you didn't see nearly as much of them as Law probably did.
"You're part of that (Y/n)-ya."
"What? Rude. I'm not that bad." You scoffed.
He laughed again. There was a slight flush to his cheeks, the whiskey was definitely bringing out a more casual side of him you hadn't had the chance to see before.
"Alright, what about you? Found anything you like doing around the ship yet?" He took a sip from the bottle. You don't remember him taking it from you but you wanted it back.
"I haven't had much time to figure that out yet, but I really want to see the view underwater when we set sail again. I didn't think about it until I saw the porthole in my room." Law let you take the bottle back and watched you take a drink.
"The bottom floor of the ship is far enough under water, you could check that out now if you wanted to. It's a view you get used to over time."
"It's so cool though!" Law watched in dismay as you finished off the drink. "I bet there's all kinds of weird fish to see."
"There are." He took the empty bottle, making sure there really was nothing left. "I think we need some more of this." He tossed the glass to the side and it hit the beach with a heavy thump. He then jumped down and turned to look back up at you. "Are you coming?"
"Yep!" You slid down, not nearly as gracefully as him.
"Were'd your shoes go? We just got you new ones." He grumbled, squinting around the rocks until he spotted your sandals, snatching them up. "Don't lose them or I swear I'm not getting you any more."
"Aye aye captain." You giggled and took them from him, opting to carry them for now.
"Oh so now you're calling me captain." He walked beside you, trying to match your pace with his much longer legs.
"Only whenever I feel like it." It was hard to walk straight but you were doing a damn good job for as drunk as you were.
"You're not the best at taking orders." He shook his head.
"I try my best. Some are a little dumb though." You were now at the edge of the party and it was loud once again. This time there was something going on that had the people cheering periodically. It was too much to ignore, you had to know what was going on.
"Hey, where are you going?" Law tried to grab your arm but missed as you slipped into the crowd. "Damnit." He sighed, changing direction to find where you were headed.
In the center of the people was an open space. On one end was a couple hay stacks with targets painted on them and on the other was two people with knives in hand and a table covered with glasses between them. It was some sort of drinking game and you wanted in on it.
"(Y/n)-ya, don't go wandering off." Law placed a hand on your shoulder and a shiver ran down your spine at the sudden contact.
You peeled his hand off of you as politely as possible but he still gave you a puzzled look. "I want to play a round of this." You said, cutting him off.
"It's a two person game." He leaned over you to be heard over the noise of the people cheering as someone threw a knife in the center of his target. "And I don't know if that's a good idea. You're drunk."
"All the more reason to play! C'mon, you and me, the next round!"
You gave him your best doe eyed, innocent look and he groaned. "Alright, but we're calling it a night after this."
"Yessssss."
"Wait here for a second, I'm going to make sure we get the next chance. Don't move." He pointed at the ground and stared at you sharply, making you giggle as you nodded.
He left to find whoever was in charge of setting the game up, giving you a couple glances as he went to make sure you were listening to what he told you to do. But you were too engrossed in watching the men play to get any funny ideas, swaying back and forth gently. He came back right as one of the men fell face first, too drunk to move.
"Do you know the rules?" Law asked, bent over you close enough that you could smell the whiskey on his breath.
"Yeah I think I got it, hit the bullseye and the other person has to drink. Last man standing wins." You watched some onlookers pick the fallen man up and take him away.
"Good, don't hit anyone with those knives while you're at it."
"You take all the fun out of everything, don't you?"
He was about to say something back but someone called you two up for your turn. When you took your place and were handed the knives, there was a few muffled snorts and snickers from the crowd. Either they thought you weren't going to do well because you were a woman or because you looked too drunk. Truth was, you weren't even sure if you could throw a knife straight sober, let alone drunk. There was no better time than now to learn if you could.
Law made the mistake of letting you go first. With a deep breath to help you focus, you threw it and hit the target dead center.
He scoffed and took a drink. "Lucky throw."
Some of the people disagreed as you heard what must have been a few crew members shout your name in encouragement.
Law proved to have just as good of aim and as the game went on it got harder to hit the target. You definitely showed that you could hit a target while drunk, making all your shots perfectly at first but you soon found yourself missing the center while he kept hitting it dead on. Finally, it reached a point when everything was spinning a little too much and you couldn't stay upright anymore. You fell on your ass and laid back giggling madly.
"I think you're done (Y/n)-ya." Law's blurry face spun above your own.
"Sounds good." But you couldn't get up, falling back down every time you got your upper half off the ground. "Captaiiinnnn." You whined. "I'm stuck."
"That's what you get for drinking so much." He grunted as he took your hand and pulled you to your feet.
Without his help, it was impossible to stand up on your own. He soon realized that and threw you over his shoulder.
"Woah." You clutched handfuls of the back of his shirt to steady yourself. For once being touched wasn't bothering you. You blamed the alcohol on that.
"Throw up on me and I'm tossing you into the sea." He started walking back to the ship and you vaguely thought there was no way he should be able to carry you after drinking so much.
"Noooo, you wouldn't do that."
"Do you want to test that theory?" He jostled you a bit on purpose, a teasing tone in his voice.
"No thanks." You hummed and closed your eyes. When you opened them back up you were falling into bed. You could have sworn you were still at the party just a second ago.
"Here's a bucket in case you get sick." Law stood at your bedside, said bucket in hand. "And a glass of water. You're going to have one nasty hangover in the morning." The glass of water sat on the nightstand and he placed the bucket on the floor near the bed. How cute, the doctor was taking care of your drunk ass.
"Totally worth it." You burrowed your face in a pillow.
"Keep telling yourself that." He chuckled and headed for the door. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Night captain."
"Goodnight (Y/n)-ya."
