My Definition of a Bad Idea
"Tell me again why this is supposed to be a good idea?" You paced around in the dining room, the crew watching you go back and forth nervously.
"Because it will help us accomplish both of our goals." Law said like what he suggested wasn't absolutely insane.
"No, that first part isn't my problem." You shook your head and stopped in front of him with your hands on your hips. "My problem is you suggesting we let you run off by yourself for who knows how long so you can work your way into killing this Doflamingo guy!"
It was the day after the crew had stocked up on the island and found the info on Atticus and Law had just gotten through going over his plans with everyone, starting with the plan to get him the title of shichibukai and then getting you to Impel Down to meet Atticus. With the title he'd be able to walk you straight in without a fuss. That part was all fine to you, it was minimal risk and high reward. It was a plan you liked. The issue was afterwards he wanted to use the title to help ruin Doflamingo's business and then get close enough to kill him.
The problem with that was the man himself was a shichibukai. Law thought he could make him lose the title and leave him open to be slaughtered by those he does business with, but doing so would mean risking his own life. The worst part was he wanted to do everything alone. Law had become very important to you and you weren't willing to risk losing him. Sure it was selfish, but you didn't care when it was a literal life or death situation.
"He needs to die."
"Sure, okay, that's all well and good. But you should, I dunno, maybe take people with you? If he's this big shot macho man like you suggest, you're going to need help."
"Don't say it (Y/n)-ya....." Law's eyes darkened as he prepared for what he knew would come next.
"No, you need help and that's that. I'm sure I can do something."
"No." He said it like a command, like that was all you'd need to hear to change your mind.
"Don't you "no" me mister. I'm not playing this game." The crew nearest to you and Law gimanced and scooted away in their seats, not wanting to get caught up in the argument.
"This will be dangerous. You can stay with the rest of the crew on Zou until I'm finished."
"That's all the more reason to have someone help you! Because it's dangerous! It'll give you higher odds of success and I'll sleep better at night knowing you won't die."
"I'm flattered that you care so much. This is a personal issue though, let me handle it." Lover or not, he wasn't going easy with you on this one and you could tell he wasn't going to give in.
"I've been very open about my personal issues with you. I wish you'd do the same but I guess that's too much to ask." You snapped and stormed out of the room, leaving Law to stew in his own frustrations.
You wanted some alone time and heading to your room wouldn't accomplish that. Law would find you there eventually and try talking you down, which is exactly what you didn't want right now. So instead you headed further below deck. There was a spot in between some of the machinery that was difficult to get to and even harder to find. You'd found it during an intense game of hide and seek with the crew forever ago and no one else except maybe Ikkaku could get to it.
Law stayed in the dining room so he never saw where you were going. You were glad about that as you got to your hiding spot, squeezing through some of the heavy machinery until you got to where you wanted to be. There was a thick piece of metal that jutted out a bit from the wall above your head that you could climb. It worked great as a perch and was out of sight. Once up on it, you settled with a huff, content to think things over angrily until you decided to cool down.
You almost didn't want to go through with any of his plan at this point. It didn't matter if you missed your chance to go to Impel Down, not if it meant possibly losing Law in the process. You were sure you could think up another way to get in there and see Atticus. It may take a lot more time, but it's not like he'd be going anywhere. You'd read through the file Law had taken from the library and while it didn't say much about what landed him in there, it did insinuate that he was to be locked up for life. Which beat the alternative of being executed so you'd be able to figure something out.
But more than anything you felt hurt that Law wouldn't let you in on why he wanted to have Doflamingo die so badly. He wasn't willing to talk about the details in front of the crew or with you privately. And you had bared everything about yourself that you knew to him. He had your darkest secret that no one else on the crew knew about and he still wasn't willing to tell you about his past or his connection to the shichibukai. You had the right to crawl into a dingy space and pout damnit.
It stayed quiet besides the sounds of the machines groaning and sputtering occasionally as they propelled the submarine through the ocean. A couple times you heard someone come downstairs to check that everything was running fine, but that was about it. You slowly relaxed as time went on and you gave up on mulling over how to talk Law out of his plan or at least find a less dangerous solution to his problems. You loved the man but he was just as stubborn as you. And that made things easier said than done.
"(Y/n)-ya come on, it's getting late."
Speak, or think in this case, of the devil and he shall appear. Law had come down the stairs and you didn't hear him over your own thoughts. You could see his head bobbing around as he checked around for you. Instead of making yourself seen, you huddled up quietly and waited for him to give up. You weren't angry anymore but you still felt hurt and weren't wanting to talk to him right now.
He became increasingly frustrated as he couldn't find you anywhere, grumbling to himself as it became more obvious that you wouldn't come out. Finally with a heavy sigh, he headed back upstairs, either to give up completely until you decided to quit your tantrum or look somewhere else.
You did feel a little bad for him but he refused to hear you out or let you in on the details so you didn't let the guilt get to you too much. After a short while you decided he was right, it was getting late. You were starting to feel tired and a bit hungry. Food was going to have to wait, you were sure you'd come across him back in the dining room and that just wasn't going to happen, not with other crew members around. Straight to bed it was, your own bed, not Law's. He could sleep alone for the night.
With a yawn, you hopped down from your perch and went up the stairs carefully, keeping an eye out so no one would see you going around the ship. Everyone must have cleared out either to sleep or relax somewhere else since the halls were clear. You were able to get to your room without running in to people. You half expected to find Law waiting for you there but the room was empty. There were signs of him being in it before, probably in his search for you as you thought he might, but that was it.
You decided to change into something comfy, settling for an oversized shirt you'd bought just to use as nightclothes, and crawled in bed. The steady movements of the submarine cutting through the water and the subtle play of ocean light that spilled across the floor lulled you into a half asleep state. You would have fallen asleep completely if people would leave you alone. There was a soft knock on the door followed by a certain annoying captain poking his head in. He come back to see if you'd gone to your room at some point and it put you back in a bad mood instantly. You'd hoped he wouldn't have thought about doing that.
Maybe if you didn't move or pretended you were asleep he'd leave. So you kept your eyes closed and steadied your breathing, hoping it was a good enough of an act to fool him. You weren't sure if it did but you were very discouraged when he stepped in the room, closing the door behind him.
"Why do I have to love such a stubborn woman?" Law murmured to himself as he came closer.
His fingers brushed along your cheek as he pushed a few stray strands of hair away. It took everything in you to not react to the loving gesture. You could be angry at him all you wanted, but the second he was close, you didn't want him to leave. How childish could you get?
He let out an airy sigh and crawled into bed beside you. It wasn't easy to fit two bodies in the small bed, there was a lot of shifting around that ended with him tugging you close to him so neither of you would fall out.
You were faced with his firm chest while he rested his chin on the top of your head and he pushed your shirt up high enough so he could run light circles along your back.
"(Y/n)-ya, I know you're awake..."
You didn't answer.
"You snore in your sleep."
"I do not." You mumbled into his shirt.
"No." He chuckled. "You don't but I got you to answer."
"Go be a jerk somewhere else." You grabbed handfuls of the fabric, not really wanting him to leave. He just had to know you still weren't happy with him.
"We need to talk about this." He massaged the area between your shoulder blades and you fought not to groan at how good it felt. You were stiff from stress and he could tell.
"Tell me why you want to go through with this plan then. Give me the whole story." You refused to look at him until he agreed.
"I can't do that. Not yet at least."
You pulled his hand out from your shirt and pushed him out of bed. He hit the ground with a surprised grunt, not thinking you'd be so rough with him.
You pushed your upper half up off the mattress and scowled down at him. "I told you everything about myself that I know. It's not much but as far as I'm concerned it's my entire life. All I ask is you do the same. Life can be shitty and it sucks to talk about it, trust me I know. But you can't hide things from people who care about you and expect them to go along with whatever you want."
"(Y/n)-ya-"
"I may be acting childish right now, but at least I'm not being a selfish prick." The anger was boiling back up. What gave him the right to ask everything from you but refuse to give so much as an explanation in return?
"Look, you're angry, I get that. We'll get the shichibukai title and I'll get you to Impel Down and I'm sure you'll feel better then." He said confidently from his spot on the floor.
Now you were really pissed. "Frankly I don't give a shit about going to Impel Down Trafalgar. At this point I'd rather not go!"
"What happened to getting your memories back, isn't that what you wanted?" He raised his voice slightly to match yours as he got to his feet. His golden eyes piercing in the dark room as they met your burning, steady, (e/c) ones.
You let out a strained laugh as you sat up. "You don't get it, do you? What good does my past do me if I can't have you now or in the future?"
Law's shoulder slumped forward slightly as he gave you a genuine hurt expression, something the rest of the crew would never see from their captain. "You'd rather have me than years of lost memories?"
"Yes! That's what I've been trying to say!" You stood up, your crumpled up shirt falling down till it hit your knees. "This whole thing is one big dangerous mess, I have no idea why you need to go through with it since you won't tell me, and you won't let anyone help you through it! If our roles were reversed and it was me wanting to pull this stupid stunt, you'd never let me without knowing anything! So why should I be okay with you doing it?" You threw your hands up in the air as the frustration built. "If us not going to see Atticus means I have more time with you and a small chance of persuading you to at least rethink some things then I don't want to go!"
You were panting at the end of your outburst, pleading with your eyes for Law to think about what you said if only for a second.
"You'd be willing to give up everything for me. That's not all that smart (Y/n)-ya..."
You opened your mouth to object but Law pushed you back into the bed and quickly straddled you. His lips crashed against yours as he kissed you roughly. You were still angry with him though and there was no way you'd let him distract you from the issue at hand. You bit down on his lip and he jerked away, grabbing your jaw firmly.
"I won't let you give up so easily." He panted, licking the now bloody spot on his mouth. "I'll take you to see him."
"No, I told you-"
"But before that," He interrupted. "you and I will talk. I can't tonight, give me a couple days and I'll tell you why this is important to me, I promise."
You relaxed a bit under him, resting your hands on his shoulders and eyeing him suspiciously.
"And after that we can rethink some details of the plan until you're satisfied with it."
You stared at him for a minute, waiting for a catch of some sort but there wasn't one. "You're serious?"
"Yes." The hand that held your jaw shook ever so slightly.
"Why can't we talk about it tonight?"
"Because I need you. Now." He kissed you again before you could reply, the taste of his blood filling your mouth.
You'd forget the topic for now, but as soon as you'd find the chance, you'd have him tell you everything.
