Sixteen: The Greatest Story

Cause she's all that I see
And she's all that I need
And I'm out of my league once again

Yoongi

I turned off the engine as soon as I got to park the car inside the mansion. Who would've thought I would be back this early?

While leaning on my seat, I frustratingly sighed and massaged my forehead. My mind cannot think properly because there is so much I've been worried about right now. Lilac, her plans, the things she might do because I chose not to see her tonight, and Jangmi. Jangmi, of course, Lilac's target. She's trying to use her to scare me and to make me follow her orders.

Damn it. I can't let her get hurt. But I don't know what Lilac can do. So that's her plan. To make me and my parents face each other after a very long time. Then what? She'll force me to marry her in front of them? Just because my parents likes her? If they only knew who she really is.

I got out of the car and quietly made my way inside. I'm planning to sleep in Jangmi's room again tonight so I should just fix myself in my room for a while before sleeping beside her. If she's still awake, I'm sure we'll be talking all night about what just happened. Well I wish she's still awake. I need someone to comfort me right now. No one will understand how nervous I felt the moment I saw my parents. I just saw them. After a fucking long time.

I quickly dressed myself to sleep then walked to Jangmi's room. I was about to knock but stopped moving to listen carefully. There were voices coming from inside. I think the three are in there. I opened the door and I was right, Jimin and Taehyung are sitting on the carpeted floor while Da Hee and Jangmi are on the bed. They are watching a movie with food and drinks in front of them.

The room fell silent as I enter and comfortably sat on the sofa. Everyone except Da Hee stared at me. But after a few seconds they continued watching the movie and acted normally. They know they can't ask me why I'm suddenly back because of Da Hee's presence.

"We thought you're asleep. Come here." Jangmi said. I stood up and took the free space on the floor with the other two.

"What are you... watching?"

I blankly stared at the television. Rise of the guardians? They think they're still in grade one?

"Jack Frost is handsome."

"Which is why we're watching this." Da Hee finished Jangmi's sentence. I looked at the two boys.

"You agreed with this?"

"Nope." Jimin answered.

"Hyung, you need to remember the feeling of being a little kid sometimes. Why don't you two try to enjoy this." Taehyung added. Sigh. This is rest? But I did not come here for this. I did not come here to watch an animated movie and I did not come here to be a little kid again.

I grabbed the can of softdrinks in front of me and opened it. Fine. I'm gonna watch this nonsense. Maybe I just have to try chilling out for a few hours after all the shit I've encountered. After all, I have to remember being a kid. Even if it make me sad in the end because I just end up remembering my family who kicked me out.

"Dress well the day after tomorrow." Taehyung said out of nowhere. Jimin made a thumbs up right in front of my face too.

"What's happening?"

" Anniversary of our parents."

"Is that so?" Does it mean sooner or later we will be able to see Da Hee and Taehyung's complete family? Why did they not tell me this immediately? It suddenly made me feel nervous about the opinions they might say to us once we meet.

"They already know us. Harabeoji and halmeoni told Taehyung that they talked to the two's parents about the three of us living here."

Sigh. I feel like a parasite or some kind of a user friendly shit. This is how it always felt whenever we hide in dark abandoned places just so no one would find us. And now I'm feeling it again, but this is a more serious one because we're not hiding but we're living comfortably–in a house owned by good people who should not stick with someone like me. But I don't have any choice right now, I need a home too. Especially Jangmi, I can't take her to abandoned buildings to live there. That life is not what I wanted to give her.

"What did they say?" I asked but Jimin just answered with a shrug then continued watching. "Be quiet. I'll pretend I'm into the movie."

"Are you indirectly mocking us?" Da Hee threw a popcorn at Jimin. "Fine, let's watch a movie we will all like."

"I mean, anything except cartoon and animated movies is acceptable." I added and shoved in my mouth some crackers. The others nodded while Jangmi took the remote control and scrolled down on netflix trying to find a new movie.

"Horror?" She asked. I immediately shook my head. "Give me a break."

"It should not be a too serious movie. We're chilling out remember?" said Jimin.

"What's this?" She pointed the mouse arrow on a movie and silently watched the trailer. "Romance. The title is 1 night. This'll do."

We began watching the new movie with all our focus on the screen. There are two couples in the story. One couple are both teenagers and the other couple are in their... maybe twenties? I don't know. But yeah, the movie is good. After watching, the three of us on the floor climbed on the bed as we form a circle with Jangmi and Da Hee. They said we should talk about the upcoming party.

"Where will it be held?"

"At the beach. We can bring swimwear if we want to but the attire is formal. Which means... long gowns," Da Hee curtsied as we laugh in unison. "And tuxedo."

"What are we supposed to do once we meet your parents? And your brother of course."

Jimin is right. I'm totally clueless like him. "Yeah. How do we say hi?"

"Wow. Look at him asking how to greet someone." Jangmi amusingly asked and poked Da Hee. "Isn't that new?"

"I'm amazed too." I glared at them as they high five each other. Seriously? Why do they make me feel like I've been a snob my whole life? It can't be that bad right?

"Tch. Whatever."

"So back to the topic, tomorrow let's buy our clothes." Taehyung clapped. We all agreed to this. Finally after some time, my most favorite part, we already decided to go back to our own rooms to sleep since it's already two am. But like I said, I'm sleeping in Jangmi's room tonight.

"Yipee~" I mumbled and tucked myself under the comforter. She did the same too and hugged me tight. I turned off the lamp and hugged her back as well.

I don't want to talk about what happened anymore. Maybe next time, but not now. I'm surprised too that she did not ask me but that is better than explaining what happened earlier right before bedtime or else I will just remember every single detail of what happened and I will just remember every bit of emotion I felt at that exact moment. Those minutes of my life is like hell, really bad. And I prefer not to talk about it. There are so much questions in my mind right at that time. But the worst question I have in mind?

My dad is out of jail. But why did no one ever looked for me before?

Jangmi

"Now what?" Jimin broke the silence between us three. Da Hee and Taehyung are busy welcoming their other guests and the three of us are just sitting here while drinking wine. It's been a couple of minutes since the two left the table.

We also met Namjoon earlier. He looked serious at first but turns out he is a gentleman. He even bowed right before we did and chatted about... about the three of us living in their mansion. He was like 'are you comfortable in your rooms?' or like 'please tell us if you needed anything. It is the least we could give you as thanks for saving our grandparents' lives'. We had fun talking to him too until later on he was called to be introduced by their relatives.

"Halmeoni's here." I mumbled. The two turned their heads towards where I was looking. She reached our table and greeted us warmly, then asked us to follow her. We stood up from our seats and did as we were told.

"They've been wanting to see the three of you." She happily mumbled and drank on her wine glass. I looked in front of me and saw a woman wearing an elegant white gown with her hair curled down each side of her shoulders. She looked like a queen, not the intimidating one but the sweet looking queen just like cinderella. I immediately remembered Da Hee at the sight of her mother. My eyes shifted to the man standing beside Mrs Kim. The man in tuxedo stared at us warmly, he seemed so professional looking but I don't see any hint of boastfulness even if he has a high profile.

We reached where Mr and Mrs Kim is standing then bowed at them. We were surprised when they bowed back to us. I gave halmeoni a questioning look as she just smiled and patted my back.

"Annyeonghaseyo... I'm Kim Jangmi. Happy anniversary Mr and Mrs Kim." I said, flustered.

"I'm Park Jimin. Nice to meet you Mr and Mrs Kim and happy anniversary too."

"And I'm Min Yoongi. Thank you so much for inviting us tonight."

Mr and mrs. Kim flashed a smile at us three. "We wanted to say thank you too."

We fell silent and threw each other looks. What do they mean? Thank you? For what? That we came in this event?

Mr Kim chuckled at our reaction then nodded to reassure us that we heard everything right. "That's true. We've been wanting to meet you to give our thanks for saving my mom and dad."

A random guy suddenly walked towards Mr Kim, he then excused himself to us and left with him. Wait, so back to the topic, are they saying they're eager to meet us just to thank us personally? We already recieved so much thanks and for me that's already enough but imagining myself being in their place, almost close to losing your loved one but a random stranger saves them? Okay now I get it.

"It meant everything to us." Mrs Kim continued talking and stared at halmeoni who is now currently chatting with a friend. "She's one of the most important people in my life. My mom died when I was twelve. And when my husband introduced me to them, they welcomed me and treated me like their real daughter."

"...We are sorry to hear about your mom, Mrs Kim." I answered.

"I'm sure she's glad in heaven now so there is no need to worry, beautiful lady." She said. She called me beautiful, gosh this is awkward.

"Kamsahamnida." I sheepishly smiled. Her gaze then shifted at the two beside me. And I don't know if it's real but I saw how her eyes got teary with pure happiness in them.

"Thank you for fighting the bad guys just to save halmeoni and harabeoji... And Park Jimin," she called. Yoongi and I turned our heads to Jimin who was quite startled by Mrs Kim's sudden attention. "I'm so sorry for you being stabbed. Are you feeling better now?"

"My wound's still not completely healed yet but it'll be alright and... and please don't be sorry." Jimin answered. Wait why is he so kind? Yes we were all kind right now but why is he acting so... weird? Jimin is an angel but why is he acting like the angels of all angels? He just seemed so meek... that is not even his voice when he speaks to us!

We were interrupted by the sudden change of the color of the lights and music. Then a bunch of people stood up as men took the hands of their partners and danced at the center.

"Daebak." I gasped. This is an unbelibubble moment. I know it should be unbelievable but I got used to saying unbelibubble because of Jin oppa. He says it as a joke sometimes. If he is here I'm sure he'd be amazed by the surroundings and won't let himself go home without dancing– and without eating every food laid on the table.

"You should enjoy the party. Go on." Mrs Kim said and lightly pushed the three of us. We giggled and bowed to her the last time before walking away.

"Yeah, she likes me guys." Jimin bragged and fixed the ribbon on his tuxedo with a smug look on his face. Wait what?

"E-Excuse me? What do you mean?"

"Not as 'she likes him' for herself Jangmi. He's just glad that she likes him as a person because don't you remember? This small person right here has a crush on Mr and Mrs Kim's only daughter." Yoongi explained.

That's it! He is trying to impress her. Right, I almost forgot, he likes Da Hee. That's why he is acting really weird earlier in front of Mrs Kim!

"What small person you–"

"If I were you I'd ask her for a dance. Like right now." Yoongi chuckled. "You're not the only guy in here and I'm sure there are other creeps who has their eyes on her right now."

And with that, Jimin high fived Yoongi and gave us both a thumbs up before leaving. He left so fast just because of what Yoongi said, it's obvious that he doesn't like the idea of Da Hee dancing with another guy except him. I can't blame him though because I'd feel the same if I was in his place.

Yoongi slowly walked in front of me. He offered his hand and shot me a small smile. "Do you... uhm... do you wanna dance... or something...?"

Why is he nervous? He is the cutest when he's nervous but why is he? Pfft!

"Breathe, Yoongi." I chuckled and carefully took his hand. "It's just me."

"It's not just you." Yoongi continuously shook his head and gently dragged me to the center where the others are dancing. He suddenly pulled me closer and slid his hand on my waist which sent shivers down to my spine along with this tingling sensation in my stomach.

"It's not just you." He took my hand and squeezed it. "It is you. And anything, as long as it is about you, makes me nervous."

"That's sweet." I grinned.

((Now playing: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri))

I rested my hand on his shoulder as he shot me the sweet smile he rarely does. My favorite part. Whenever he smiles at me while I look deep in his eyes. We began to dance slowly while my eyes are still locked to his. I can't take my eyes off him, I can't take my eyes off the person who has this something in his own orbs that gets me everytime. Something that makes me feel an unexplainable feeling. The feeling of getting drowned in his eyes without any attempts of escaping.

"Let's play a game." I mumbled. He raised his eyebrows to ask what it was. "Say a line from a book or a movie that we can relate with."

"Okay." He chuckled. "You do it first."

"Well..." I took a deep breath. "It is a line from the movie Be Somebody. Life doesn't come with guarantees. Every now and then you just have to take a chance."

"And how did you relate yourself with that?"

"You told me it was dangerous to stay beside you and I would lie if I say I never thought about just leaving and forgetting you."

"That hurt." He joked and let out a laugh.

"Mianhae." I pouted. "But like I said even after all those doubts, I realized that I can't let him go."

"Him?" He repeated. I nodded but he just looked at me with a very confused expression. I sighed.

"It's you, but that would be too awkward to say 'I can't let you go' right in front of your face."

"You just did."

"Tch. I hate you. Oh, it's your turn now."

"I don't really know. It's not like I will bother memorizing movie lines."

"But there must be something." This can't be. I'm liking this game. And I don't believe that he haven't been watching movies. Maybe people like them also have time to watch. He should atleast say something.

"Hmm..." I could see in his face how hard he tries to think of any line he have heard before. I bit my lip to prevent myself from laughing while watching him with seriousness written all over his face. After a couple of minutes of dancing quietly, his face suddenly lit up.

"I got one." He smirked. "But let's get out of here first."

We got outside the party area. The sound of the sea waves greeted us, the cold and gentle wind greeted us, the silence, the night sky and the glimmering stars greeted us. Because of the great view, I remembered another line from Miley Cyrus' movie.

"Hannah Montana the movie. Life's a climb," I smiled at Yoongi. "but the view's great."

"The view is great that's right. Come on we should sit by the seashore."

Pabo. I was talking about you. You're the great view I'm talking about but of course I won't tell you that.

"Wait a sec I should definitely take my heels off first." I bent my knees and took off both of my heels. Then Yoongi and I walked side by side towards the shore, then we sat on the sand just like how he wanted.

The best part of being with someone you love is when you don't say anything at all but you already feel complete. And I could feel complete right now. Even if we are just silently watching the water run back and forth on its own.

"Why do we have to get out of there just because you already remembered a movie line?" I asked out of nowhere.

"I wanted to try something."

"And what is that?"

"I can only refer to one movie and that is the movie we watched last monday."

"1 night?" I asked and he nodded.  "Nice. What line then?"

"It's not just a line. I said I want to try something. And then I'll say the line I picked."

"So what do you want to try?"

"Remember the part where they cover each others' eyes then they count? Starting from seven up until one?"

Oh I remember that part. That's one of my favorite parts there. How did he remember that? Wow, I didn't expect for Yoongi to focus on the movie too much.

"Let's do it. I want to try that too." I agreed then stood up and he followed. We faced each other and locked eyes. I reached for his face then covered his eyes, he reached for my face then covered my eyes. After that, we began to count together.

I don't exactly understand why we ended up doing this game. But all I know is that my lips can't help but form a big smile on my face.

"Seven..." I began.

"Six..." Yoongi continued.

"Five..."

"Four..."

"Three..."

"Two..."

"One." I gasped when he suddenly grabbed my wrist and wrapped his other arm around me, taking the space between the two of us. My heart began to race faster as I look deep in his eyes.

A small smile crept on our lips as we stare longer. "Favorite line?" I asked.

"You are... the greatest story... I have ever known."

The wind blew and the waves suddenly sounded like music to my ears. He drew closer and closer until our foreheads meet, until our noses meet, and until our lips began to kiss softly and gently.

I love you so much... and I'm willing to be the happily ever after in your life full of tragedy.
