31 |My son's angel

Make every day special starting with today..!

It's already 6.30 which means Zayden is awake and he is acting as if he is in deep sleep.

"Good Morning." I mumble peering at his closed eyes.

"Morning," He replied with his hoarse bedroom voice while still keeping his eyes shut.

"Your acting skills are fabulous." I state sitting up and rubbing my palms over my eyes.

"Mmm I'm good at everything." He replied burying his face deeper into the pillow.

At Home »

"Morning," I greeted mom as she stood at the door waiting for us.

"Welcome home darling." She pulled me in her embrace. "Get freshen up, I have prepared your favourite dishes."

Giving her a smile I nodded.

"Mom did you by any chance forget that you have a son?" Zayden's voice came from behind her. He looked utterly shocked for being ignored by us.

"C'mere my baby," she teased Zayden opening her arms for him.
"Whatever mom, thanks for such warm welcome..."

♡♡

"It's so delicious." I said after taking a bite of lasagna.

"Have more, you have become so thin. Does Zayden trouble you?" Mom questioned. I shook my head in negative whilst munching on the food.

"Seriously mom?" Zayden shook his head looking at her in disbelief.
Mom loves to tease Zayden every now and then. The bored and bothered look he gives her, she somehow enjoys it.

We talked about lot of things just like a normal family. After a long long time I felt like I was in a place where even I mattered. Dad also said he will taking me with him to the company someday in this week.

After having lunch, we went back to our rooms to rest. I was arranging the clothes when mom walked in with two glasses of juice.

"Where is Zayden?" Mom asked when she couldn't find Zayden in the room. She passed me a glass of fresh mango juice.

"He is taking shower." I stated inhaling fresh aroma of the juice and taking a sip.

She was telling me about the particular club that she joined last week when suddenly Zayden voice came from the bathroom.

"Angel"

Mom furrowed her eyes and looked at me. "Whom is he speaking to?"

Before I could answer Zayden again called. "Angel, Can you pass me my clothes."

Mom smirked looking at me while my cheeks turned crimson red, I ducked my head lower to hide embarassment.
Giving her a rather forced smile, I walked towards the restroom and handed him the clothes.

"So..." She trailed off making me look at her. "You are angel huh?" Even though she was smiling genuinely, I could still feel that she was teasing me.

"Mom" I mumble pushing the strand of her behind my ear.

"Never knew Zayden had this side too." She mumbled to herself. "It's good actually. He is not that boring and rude, I guess. I'm happy that he saved this side of his only for his wife. Aww!! nicknames, it's so cute." She gushed like a child while I kept peering at her not knowing what to say or how to react.

"I'm leaving now. Goodnight. I don't want to invade your privacy." She waved her hand and turned around to leave. I heard her saying 'My son's angel' before exiting the room.

When he came out of restroom I thought of telling him that mom was here when he called me angel but then I changed my mind, I know mom will tease him tomorrow and I can't wait to see his reaction.

"Who got this juice?" he asked raising the glass to take a sip of juice.

"Mom, " I replied, he froze for a second and asked "She was here?"
I just nodded.

"Why did she leave?"

"I don't know. She said she was sleepy." Yes, I lied cause I didn't want to ruin tomorrow's funny moment.

Next day at dinning table »

I was sitting next to Zayden, Mom and Dad were sitting opposite us.

"Let's go on a trip." mom said gaining all our attention.

"I'm busy." Dad and Zayden uttered at the same time.
I look at Dad first and then at Zayden, both seemed least interested in outing.

"Like father like son. They are so boring and killjoy." Mom rolled her eyes.

"Leave them. Harriet you tell me do you want to go?"

I pouted whilst noding my head.

"At least let's visit our penthouse. It's been long since we have gone there." Mom asked looking at both Dad and Zayden.

But what shocked me was the fact that both did not even look up let alone answer to her question.

What to do now?
I was looking at mom with a dejected face while mom gave me a signal pointing towards Zayden.

I angled my brows upwards not understanding her meaning but then she again signalled towards Zayden, mouthing convince him.

I open my eyes wide whilst shaking my head in negative. He already said No. There is no point in asking again. I don't want to deal with Zayden, who knows he might ignore me just like he ignored mom or worse snap at me.

Mom narrowed her eyes at me and signalled again. I huff making up my mind.

Let me try once.

"Zayden," I called, my voice came out feeble.

"Yeah?" He turned to look at me for a second and then turned his gaze back to food.

Did he like the breakfast so much ?

Inhaling deeply, I tug on his sleeve lightly seizing his attention. He stopped eating and turned his head to peer at me.
"Please Zayden let's go." I mumbled batting my eyelids.

He didn't reply just kept gazing at me.

"Please..." I pouted, giving him a best puppy face I could.

Something changed in his eyes as he rambled his eyes all over my face.
"Who taught you to act this cute?" He whispered with literally no change in his facial expressions.

My mouth hung open as I stared at him, "What?"

"Nothing." He shrugged.

"Zayden please let's go." I mutter with my eyes pleading for understanding.
He gazed at me for good two seconds and then sighed. "Dad let's go." He said still looking at me.

Woah!
It was easier than I thought, all I needed to do was pout and plead with eyes.

"Huh? Why did you suddenly change your side ?" Dad questioned dabbing his lips with towel.

"It's not like that, I thought —" before Zayden could complete his sentence mom cut him off.
"Learn from your son. He listens to his wife's request unlike you. Thank God! At least in this matter he is nothing like you."

Dad looked at mom with puzzled face. "He listens to his wife cause his wife is not Helena (Zayden's mom)..." There was a teasing smirk laced on his face.

"Ah! Didn't you realise this very early dear husband. And unfortunately you've to deal with this Helena in this life." She flicked her hair backwards making us chuckle.

A constant smile was laced on my face while I looked at their cute banter. Even after so many years of marriage they had kept their love strong.

"Why are you smiling?" Zayden asked leaning a bit closer to my ears.

"They are so cute. She is one lucky lady." I gushed looked at them in awe.

Zayden hummed, "Grandpa felt they were made for each other. Now that I look at them, I think he was right in setting their alliance."

Arrange marriage like this is like a dream come true. I leisurely turned my head a little to peer at Zayden who was gazing at his parents.

Suddenly a thought crossed my mind. ‘Will Zayden ever treat me like dad treats mom’  before I could shrug off this thought, he titled his head and looked at me. I bat my eyelids while an overwhelming sensation sweeped my body when words rolled off his tongue. "I'll try." His answer left me aghast.

Did I say it out loud ?  I don't think so.

"What?" I questioned

"Answer to the question which is running in your mind is — I'll try." He replied with slight emotions swirling in his eyes. I was stunned cause Zayden never shows his emotions like that.  It was a rare yet mesmerizing sight to look at.

"Are you a mind reader?" Words slipped out of my mouth.

He raised both his brows in amusement. "Let's say only your mind reader."
There goes my heart.

Smooth !!

A clearing of throat broke my trance of thought. I look ahead to gaze at mom, "So, we are going tomorrow. Let's start our packing."

Dad huffed shaking his head. "And I have to cancel my meetings, all thanks to my son."

"We can postpone it to when we will be back from penthouse." Zayden stated shrugging.

"Learn something from your son." Mom slapped dad's arm.

"What should I learn from Zayden?"

"Many things, but for now you should learn how to be sweet." Mom said smiling cheekely.

And I knew where this topic was leading to. I bit the inside of my cheek and sat straight.

"Zayden and sweet?" Dad laughed shaking his head in negative. "You know your son's attitude very well. When has he even smiled at someone? Acting sweet is far far away. In this matter I can proudly say that you are luckier than Harriet." Dad smirked as if he had won some competition while Zayden as usual wasn't bothered let alone be offended by Dad's comment. He kept munching food whilst glancing at his parents once in a while.

"Have you ever called me Angel or any other endearment?" Mom questioned with raised brow.

Zayden chocked while drinking water. Coughing and patting his chest for few seconds, he slowly turned towards me. He raised one of his brow which was more like asking me for explanation.
I bat my eyelids looking clueless and turned to gaze at mom.

"Angel? Who is —" Dad started but was cut off by Zayden.

"Dad I think you are getting late." Zayden uttered.

"Yes right. Are you coming with me Harriet?" Dad asked standing up.

Before I could respond, Zayden answered. "No I'll drop her."

W

hat? No way I was going to agree to this.

He is going to bombard me with tons of questions of how mom knows about him calling me Angel.

"No," I blurted standing up. "No need, I can go with dad."

Dad gazed to and fro between Zayden and I. "You guys decide, I'll be outside. I have to make a call."

Gulping down the water swiftly I stand up, "Dad must be waiting for me." I announce and was about to step away when grasped my wrist halting me.

"I will drop you." He affirmed.

I turn to mom pleading her with my eyes to help me.

"Let her go with dad, Zayden. Can't you stay away from your angel for few hours." Mom teased.

"Mom! Seriously ?" Zayden huffed raking his finger through his hair.
