You Rhyme With My Heart Beat... (Part 1 of 2)

*beep* *beep* *beep*

"Lex! Get up! You don't want to be late on your first day back at school!" My mother, Rose shouted from the bottom step.

I hear my alarm and my mother but I do not feel like moving an inch. My bedroom door opens and my mom walks in. She opens the curtains and I hide my face with a pillow. I feel the covers being pulled from my body and I groan.

"Rise and shine, sleeping beauty!"

"Ugh! Mama! Just five more minutes!" I plead.

"Hmm. How about a nice bucket of cold water-"

I fly up into a sitting position on my bed.

"I'm up! I'm up!" I exclaim jumping up from the bed.

My Mama don't play.

"Good. Now I gotta go to work so I'll see you later, hun. Have a nice day at school."

Rose walks over to me and kisses my forehead before leaving the room.

"Have a nice day!" I shout back.

I sigh heavily before dragging myself to my bathroom. I take a quick shower then brush my teeth. I can't help but admire my teeth in the mirror for the billionth time. I had my braces taken out and I am soooooo happy they're gone. They caused nothing but trouble for me. After that, I went into my bedroom and applied deodorant and moisturised my skin then put on my new outfit that I bought for my first day as a senior: A blue pleated skirt with a white vest top, white flats and a cropped leather jacket to finish. I somehow tamed my black/brown shoulder length mane and then went to my full length mirror to look myself over.

"Today's gonna be different. I just know it." I said to myself.

I really had no idea how true that statement turned out to be until later on that same day.

********

I stepped out of the limo around the corner from school.

Yes. My family are wealthy but I don't like to flaunt it. I'm not all about popularity like everyone else. I used to wear a lot of baggy clothing in middle school but my mother (being the head of a modelling agency) soon coaxed me out of that "faze" (as she calls it). I don't mind really. I look good. No harm in that, right?

"Hey Lex!"

I hear my best friend Jess called me as she jogged towards the limo.

"Hey Jessie."

"Hey girl! Wow! You look great." She exclaims.

"Why thank you." I say whilst twirling, modelling my outfit.

"You ready for school?" She asks me.

"As ready as I'll ever be."

We make our way to the school meeting our other friend Marcus on the front steps.

"Hey Marcus." Jess and I say.

"Lex! Oh my god! Girl look at you!" Marcus exclaims.

I blush as Marcus takes my hand and twirls me in a circle to view my new outfit.

"Marcus. Stop! You're embarrassing me!" I giggle.

"Ooooo girl and show me those pearly whites!"

Marcus steps back to admire my now perfect teeth which I gladly show off with a toothy smile. My smile drops slowly into a gape as I watch Mr Perfection approach the school building talking with his two friends. As he walks past us on the steps, he stops talking with his friends momentarily to look at me...and he winks.

Am I dreaming? Has the earth stopped rotating? Am I even alive? Did Michael Jackson seriously just wink at me let alone look my way?

Ho-ly shit!

"Lex! Lex!" Jess snaps her fingers in my face.

"Huh? What?" I stammer.

"You ok?" She asks looking a little concerned.

"Y-yeah. I'm fine. Come on. Let's get to class."

********

At lunchtime, I went to the library. Our school library was large but fairly empty at lunchtime. Marcus and Jessie went to the cafeteria to eat knowing that I'd be in here. I picked out my usual table at a corner of the library and began eating my sandwich as I wrote in my journal

"Is this seat taken?" A sweet angelic voice asks from above me. I look up from my journal to meet eyes with him once again.

It's Michael!

We were always in different classes but I always saw him. I always noticed him. How could anyone not with that gorgeous face of his? Besides, he was always the talk of the school (mainly amongst the girls) so he'd always be surrounded by a lot of people. I wasn't exactly ever making an effort for him to see me, although, if he ever did lay eyes on me, I wouldn't know because I decided it would be better not to gape at him like all the other girls. I'm not like everyone else. (Although I wouldn't mind if he did look at me *giggles*)

"Umm no. You can sit here." I said quietly.

I removed my bag from the seat and let him sit next to me.

"It's nice to finally meet you Lex." He said cheerily.

He knows my name?

"You know my name?" I asked in disbelief.

"Of course I do! You're Mrs Walker's daughter-"

"Shh!! Keep your voice down!" I hiss looking around the empty library in case someone had heard.

"What's the problem?" He asks clueless.

"No one in school knows I'm Rose Walker's daughter and I'd like to keep it that way if you don't mind." I whisper.

"Oh I see. I'd keep my modelling job secret if I wasn't in magazines that everyone reads. I don't really enjoy all the attention to be honest. I like my breathing space." He chuckles.

"Wait, how did you know I was her daughter?" I ask.

He pulls out a black and white photo of himself in a leather jacket with a white shirt underneath.

DAMN!

"You see that Jacket?" He asks pointing to the photograph.

I nod.

"Your mom designed it for me. I'd like to get in contact with her soon so she can make me another one actually."

My Mama is the head of a modelling agency but does make and design clothes as well. She is famous for designing clothes for many well known celebrities.

He continues. "When I was at her office giving her the details of what I wanted, I saw a photo of you on her desk and she told me a little about you which is when I realised something."

"And what's that?" I ask looking back down at my journal and placing my sandwich back in my lunchbox.

"You're the Lex Walker that wrote those poems for the school paper!"

I freeze in place then slowly look up at Michael who is smiling at me sweetly.

He read my poems. No one read my poems! That's why I stopped last year. I can't believe he actually read them.

"You-You read my poetry?" I ask shocked.

"Yes. Every week, and I think you're very talented. I love your work. Why did you stop writing for the paper though? I really miss them."

My heart is racing. What's wrong with me? Answer him! Why can't I talk?

"I-I umm..." I stutter. "You read my poetry?!" I asked again in disbelief.

He laughs which makes me stop gaping and smile momentarily. His laugh is such a wonderful sound to the ear.

"Yes, Lex, I read them. But why did you stop?" He asks scooting his chair a little closer to mine. I get a whiff of his intoxicating scent as he moves closer. I discretely inhale the wonderful smell of his cologne before letting out a sigh.

"I-I thought nobody was interested. I-I mean, the column I was given in the paper was so small that I'm surprised you found them! I never got any credit for my work. I was just a page filler. My poetry had no meaning to anyone." I explained sadly.

"They meant something to me." Michael says low and I shiver. "Do you still write them?" He asks.

"Yes. Y-yes I do." I answer still very quiet.

Where the fuck is my voice at????

"You should make them into a book one day. I know I'd definitely buy a copy." He giggles.

Maybe I should ask him...no.

Yes.

I'm gonna ask.

"Umm Michael?" I call.

Ooooo his name is so nice to say. I'm not sure if you can taste a name on your lips but I can certainly taste his and it's wonderful.

"Yes."

Ask him damn it Lex!

I look down at my fingers as I try my hardest to let the words slip out of my mouth.

"Would you like to come over to my house to read some of my stuff?!" I finally ask. "I-I mean you could ask my mom about the Jacket you want and maybe stay for dinner?"

"Yeah sure. Sounds fun." He replies simply.

My eyes widen still staring down at my lap.

He...he said yes!

"O-ok."

Damn it Lex! Stop stuttering!

"When can I come over?"

"Tonight!" I answer quickly.

WHAT THE FUCK LEX!?

"I-I mean...umm...if you want to a-and if you're not busy or anyth-"

"Ok. Do you drive? I'll cancel my limo and ride with you." He suggests.

I guess tonight wasn't too soon.

"No I have our driver come pick me up after school. You can ride in my limo if you want."

"Sure."

The school bell rings and we both get up picking up our stuff.

"So I'll meet you on the steps after school. See you later Lex!" He says as he jogs out of the library.

This all happened so fast. I have a date with Michael Jackson!

********

After school, I waited on the steps for Michael but was greeted by Marcus and Jessie instead.

"Lex! We haven't seen you all day! Girl where you been?!" Marcus asks flailing his arms dramatically.

"I was in the library, you know that, Marcus." I explained.

"Anyways," Jessie cuts in. "We're going over to my house then to the mall. You wanna come?" Jessie asks.

"I err...I can't. Not today guys." I say looking down at my feet.

"Why n-"

"You ready to go Lex?" Michael asks cutting off Jess.

"Yeah, I'm ready."

I'm blushing and smiling timidly at the ground but I can feel all eyes on me.

"Ok then. Let's go."

I begin walking away with Michael but look back over my shoulder to see Jess and Marcus both arching their brows at me, then Jess mouths "Call me later" then winks.

She wants all the deets and so does Marcus. I can tell because he's giving me that look.

I face forward again giggling at my friends as I lead Michael around the corner to where my Limo is waiting.

Sam (My driver) sees me coming and gets out of the car opening my door for me. When I get there, I start to get into the limo but Sam clears his throat.

I know what that means.

I giggle as I get out of the limo and peck Sam on the cheek.

"Hey Sam." I greet sweetly as I slide into the limo.

Sam looks at Michael and his kind smile vanishes.

Sam is like family and has always been very protective of me like a father since I was a baby so seeing Michael (A boy) around me is unsettling for him.

"It's ok, Sam. Michael is a friend of mine and actually one of my mother's clients. It's ok." I say tugging at his blazer so that he'll move out of the way for Michael.

Sam doesn't talk much but just a look from him can mean a thousand words. Kind of like the way he's squinting at Michael as he hesitantly moves from the doorway of the limo to let him in. Sam is quite intimidating. Tall, dark skinned, bald and kinda mean lookin' with that scar on his eye but that never fazed me growing up. I always saw him as a cuddly teddy bear.

"I don't have to kiss you too, do I?" Michael asks jokingly.

Sam arches a brow at him as Michael slides in next to me. Soon enough, we're

on our way back to my house.

Michael's POV

I lean over to Lex's ear and she gasps.

What's her problem?

"I don't think Sam likes me very much." I whispered.

"I don't." A low and deep voice said, shaking the limo.

"Jesus!" I gasped.

It was Sam. No wonder he doesn't talk much. His voice is almost as intimidating as his build!

"You think?" She asks sarcastically and giggling nervously.

When I pull back, I just had to say a silent prayer because of where I'd accidentally placed my hand.

Lord forgive me for my hand is on her thigh.

I quickly move my hand and I'm almost certain that both of us were blushing.

I cleared my throat.

"Sorry." I said.

"It's ok." She whispers.

Thank God we turned up at her house after that. The awkwardness was killing me.

"Mom! I'm home!" She called but there was no answer.

She leads me into the kitchen where a middle aged Hispanic woman with brown hair tied up in a bun is cleaning the stove.

"Hola Maria!" Lex says.

Wait. She speaks Spanish?

"Hola Cariño. Quién es éste?" The woman says looking over at me.

"Oh, este es mi amigo. Su nombre es Michael." Lex says gesturing towards me.

"Hello Michael. I'm Maria." Maria says.

So she does speak English.

"Hi. It's very nice to meet you." I say politely.

She responds with a head nod.

"María, ¿dónde está mi madre?" Lex says.

"Ella tenía que trabajar hasta tarde. Te llamaré cuando la cena está lista."

"Gracias. Come on Michael. She said she'll call us when dinner is ready. My mom should be home later on."

I follow her up some stairs and into a room I assume to be her bedroom. It was quite a large room decorated pink. She led me over to her small pink couch and gestured for me to sit while she pulled out her journal from her school bag then another book I guessed to be another journal from underneath her pillow.

She sat next to me on the couch then held up the two journals. One was pink with white butterflies on it (from her school bag) and the other was also pink but was held together neatly with a white ribbon (from underneath her pillow).

"Pick one." She said.

"That one." I pointed to the one with the ribbon.

She placed it in her lap, putting the other on the coffee table in front of us. She looked down at it smiling as she gently untied the bow of the ribbon.

"These are my older pieces. I hope you like them. Some are a little cheesy." She giggled.

"That's alright." I smiled at her.

We held eye contact for a while and I had the sudden urge to just move some of her medium length black-brown curls from her face.

She's so beautiful.

She cleared her throat as she blushed then began to flip through the pages of the journal.

"Oh here's one! I wrote this when I was about thirteen."

My eyes were on her plump lips as she licked them then began reading the poem.

Lex's POV

After reading through a few poems, we talked for a couple hours. We were enjoying each other's company, sharing jokes and stories and of course, poetry.

There was a knock on my bedroom door and I said "Come in". My mother walked in and was pleasantly surprised to see Michael sat in my room.

"Michael? Oh it's so good to see you! What are you doing here?" She asks.

"I invited him over, mama. We go to the same school." I answered.

"Hi Mrs Walker." Michael greets politely. "How are you?"

"I'm great, thank you Michael and for the last time. Please call me Rose!" She chuckles.

Michael smiles timidly. He's so cute!

"Oh yeah! Mama, Michael wanted another Jacket designed by you." I said.

"Oh really?" She says looking over at Michael.

"Yes. I was hoping for something nice to add to my collection. Your designs are always the best, Rose." Michael complemented.

"Actually, I had something I was starting on that I had in mind for you. I have the sketches in my office but let's get to that after dinner shall we?"

We enjoyed dinner together and before it was time to go, Michael made an appointment with Rose to meet at her office to look over the designs.

I walked him to the awaiting limo by the gates at the front of my house.

"So, maybe next time we could meet at my house." Michael suggests.

"Sounds great."

Michael giggles a little then leans forward softly pecking my cheek. I blush insanely!

"Good night, Lex." He says.

"G-goodnight, Michael." I whisper back.

And my voice has gone again. Lord he takes my breath away...

He slides into the limo and I wave as it drives away from my house.

This is definitely the beginning of something...something beautiful...

Hey guys! I hope this first part is ok. There will be a part 2 that I hope will be better, as all the interesting things happen there. Also I will use some of my poetry in the next part too. Thank you so much to MjandLexfor for my very first request. I've enjoyed writing it so far and I hope you liked it too.

Love,

Michaelmakemyday
