"Awww come on Mackenzie! Please put the ears on! For me! Pleaseeee?"

Juno begged as he gave me a cute pout...and of course, it's super effective.
I sighed in surrender as I then bow
my head to him, closing my eyes as I then felt his slender fingers combing through my brown hair as he put something tight on my head.
He then takes his fingers out, gasping as I opened my eyes.
His cheeks were red like tomatoes as his brown eyes sparkled.

"Mackenzie...you look so cute with those ears on..."

"E-Eh?! Cute?!"

I responded as I look at myself in the fun mirror, blushing as I saw a reflection of me wearing small fluffy bear ears...
Juno giggles with excitement as he stands besides me, wearing the same headband.

"Definitely! You're like, super duper cute! I on the other hand look...dorky"

Dorky?!
How could Juno call himself that?!
He definitely was not dorky! Even if he was, he was my dork!
I stared at him, flabbergasted.

"You are not dorky! You look super duper cute too! You pull off the look better than me!"

I suddenly realized what I just said and quickly cover my mouth while Juno stared at me with wide eyes and an open mouth.
Oh no, word vomit.
Why is it always the word vomit?

"You...think I look cute in these ears?"

"Y-Yes..."

But you look cute in everything, Juno.
You look cute in my oversized sweaters, you look cute in costumes, you look cute in your striped shirts and jeans.
You just look magnificent in anything you wear...
I then felt Juno's hands grabbing both of mine, our fingers intertwining again as we both stared into each other's eyes.

"Then let's get them since they look good on the both of us!"

"E-Eh?! Y-You don't have to! Wait!"

I protested as I held my hands up in defensive. Juno giggles however and goes up to the counter, paying for our animal ears.
Geez, now I felt more of a burden than I already was...first, he took me to this amusement park without knowing that today was my birthday, he bought me lots of snacks, now he's buying me teddy bear ears that I'm only going to wear once in my life.
It was too late however, Juno comes back and puts the ears back on my head, pinching my cheeks.

"There you go! Awww so cute! So, what should we do next?!"

"Well I mean, it's starting to get dark and late, do you want to head back home?"

"Oh! No no let's do one more ride! One more ride, please!"

"Okay okay, we can go on one more ride~"

I acknowledged as he smiles and holds my hand, taking me to another ride. However, I then spot a tall ride nearby, the name on the sign said,

Gyro Drop

An idea then sparks in my head.
I gently tap Juno's shoulder, catching his attention.

"Hm? Yes Mackenzie?"

"Hey Juno...I dare you to ride that~"

Juno stares at me with confusion and looks at where I was pointing to. He then shudders at the sight of the terrifying ride.

"Umm w-why?"

"Because I dared you to~ So, go ride it!"

"Oh Juno! You rode the drop tower! You're so brave and awesome!"

[Reality]

"Go on the ride Juno! I dare ya! If you ride it, then you can choose the last ride! It's only fair!"

Juno hums a soft tune as he maintains a huge smile on his face as he felt his body being lifted up in the air, his hands gripping the handle bars tightly till his knuckles turned white.
He happily waves to Mackenzie, who was watching him from a bench on the ground below, shyly waving back to him with a smirk as he went higher and higher till the ride finally reaches the top.
As Juno waits for the drop, he spots the other passengers taking a selfie.

"Whoa Juno! You even took a selfie at the top?! That's so cool! You're so cool!"

[Reality]

Juno takes out his phone and quickly snaps a photo, smiling to himself as he couldn't wait to see the look on Mackenzie's face when she sees the selfie he took...and then the ride suddenly drops, causing Juno to scream like a girl.
Let's just say that Juno was scarred for life from that day on...
After calming Juno down from the whole ride drop scare, I softly smile at him.

"Okay Juno, since you did a favor for me, I'll do a favor for you~"

"Oh! Yes! Hmm...Mackenzie, I want you to ride the Ferris wheel with me!"

"A-Ah, okay okay if that's what you wish"

I stuttered as I felt my heart race. Ferris wheel?
Like, the ride that most couples would do...?
Now why did Juno want me to ride that with him?
I wonder...no, there's no way that he's going to confess, right?
No, maybe not, maybe he just likes Ferris wheels! Plus, he's my roommate and who knows, maybe he already has a girlfriend...
I mean, any girl would be so lucky to have a sweet, caring and warm-hearted person like him.
Once we get inside the booth, we feel the ride rotate and soon, we were at the very top, the beautiful view of the park shining in front of us.

"Wow...the amusement park is very pretty at night...I mean, look at all the twinkling lights!"

"Yeah, it is very pretty...hey Mackenzie?"

Oh my god, is he really going to do it? Is he going to confess to me?
What was he going to say?
What should I do...?
Oh no, I feel the word vomit coming up...

"I just want to say that-"

"Today's my birthday, okay?!"

I blurt out, causing Juno to stop mid-sentence. He stares at me with wide eyes.

"What...?"

"...It's my birthday today..."

"Mackenzie, why didn't you say so?! Why tell me now? The day's almost over! Awww if you told me earlier, I wouldn't have taken you here! I basically dragged you to this amusement park against your own will when I should've done what you wanted to do instead!"

"Juno, I didn't tell you because I don't want to celebrate my birthday...never have, never will ever again..."

"What? Why? It's a special day for you! Why not celebrate it?"

"Because I don't give a damn about it anymore, alright?! It's just another boring day for me! You want to also know why I don't celebrate it? Because not many people wish me a happy birthday, like my own fucking father!"

I screamed, causing Juno to flinch and stared at me with a look of sadness and sympathy.
I take deep breaths before finally calming down and taking off my animal ears, shoving them in Juno's hands.

"You know what? I'm done, you can stay here and have your fun, I'm going home..."

I state as I suddenly realized that I was stuck on the ride. I sighed again.

"Once I get off this ride..."

While taking the subway home, me and Juno sat in silence, as the rattling of the subway's wheels were heard.
It was only 8:00 o'clock, but when I get home, I just wanted to sleep.
I just wanted to escape from this sad reality and go to my dreamland, where I didn't have to worry about anything.
Want to know the real reason why I don't celebrate my birthday? It's because I feel empty.
The feeling of excitement for my birthday was all gone, it disappeared like blowing out the candles.
I didn't want to be the center of attention.
I didn't want people singing the silly song to me.
I didn't want people spending money on me because they have to.
Yep...it was just another day, another day of surviving in this world.
