She softly turned from the side she was facing, her eyes clouded with too much sleep. She could feel the cool evening breeze seeping into her skin pores and it was slightly cold. Even though she hadn't opened her eyes yet, she knew it was dark already. And behold when Nadia opened her eyes, she smiled at the sky that had turned to dark and her fortune, stars were adorning it already.
She loved the view, the moon too was beautiful even though it wasn't full it. She moved her head silently, aware of the fact that she had slept on his laps, that was among the reasons she loved her husband, and she was certain it was because of his presence that she slept so good. It wasn't only her aching muscles that had a good rest, her soul too had one.
She looked up at him, and his eyes were fixed on the moving waves of the pool, he looked ruminative. She smiled and stared at his face for some time, maybe he hadn't noticed that she had woken up, right? Because he would have asked them to get inside so they can pray, he hadn't prayed too, she needn't ask.
But she wanted to be selfish, because she knew if they leave here, she wouldn't be able to have some time with her husband again, it would always be First H and Second H, she wouldn't be able to recognize them.
Maybe if she looked so hard, she might be able to differentiate between the two men, maybe if she saw them together she might be able to recognize her Twin, right? Maybe she had never gotten the chance to look at him as much as she wanted, that was why she couldn't recognize him when he was together with his twin brother.
"Twin?" She called out, and that was when his attention turned to her, and he managed a smile.
"Are you okay? Something is wrong, what is it?" She asked and tried sitting upright but he placed a tentative hand on her shoulder and kept her where she was.
"You're not fine, Twin, speak to me please." She spoke again because she needn't be told what his silence meant, something was off about him.
She looked up at him from his laps and he looked down, making eye contact with her. "Do you want to talk about it?" She pressed, taking his right hand in both hers, and she softly squeezed them. At first, she felt the way he tightened before he loosened a bit and smiled softly.
"I do, but it's nothing serious. I'm just afraid." He spoke softly, staring into her doe-like orbs and how she innocently looked up at him.
"Afraid of what, Twin?"
"Suhaila, she has graduated. It's between the two, she either gets married and attend the university at her husband's house or start the university but I'm sure Hajia will say she will have to finish it at her husband's house. I'm happy that she's finally graduated, but I'm afraid of the type of man she'll get involved with. I don't want her innocence to be ripped off her and be hurt over some questionable creatures."
She chuckled softly, was this a father's instinct she was hearing on his tone? It surely was. She smiled softly and this time when she tried sitting upright, he didn't stop her. "She will be fine, Twin, I assure you. She has you and Hussain to guide her through, right? And I'm sure no matter what Hajia wants for her, you two have to agree first, you don't have to be so worked up about it, please."
He nodded and softly thanked her before he stood up and she followed suit, "I'm sorry, Nadia."
"For what? And my name isn't Nadia, it's Singleton." She pouted her lips and rolled her eyes at him, he chuckled.
"I know you won't forgive me, right? I'm Hussain, not your Twin. I just wanted someone to talk to about this, that's why I haven't told you who I am since you woke up. And I couldn't do that because you immediately started sleeping after you rested your head on my laps, I'm sorry." And he turned his back at her, walking away from what she felt no matter how much she would scream, it wouldn't fill her annoyance.
Wait, she wasn't just annoyed, she was angry. Angry at both herself and Hussain. Why would he let her do that? She rested her head on his laps and slept for nearly an hour or even two, but this man didn't have it in him to tell her that he wasn't her husband? For Allah's sake?! If she couldn't recognize them, but he surely knew he wasn't the one. And he even had the gut to let her hold his hand! Damn it, she tried to sit upright when he pulled her back! Argh! Twin should better tell her their difference today.
With weak knees, somehow she found it in her not to be so annoyed at him. Maybe it was because of how worried he sounded about their baby sister? Was it because she had always seen him as a tough guy? That she felt he couldn't sound so bothered of something like a boyfriend or husband? Her annoying husband's twin! She swatted a mosquito from her forehead and walked to their site.
She entered the room with a soft Salam on her lips and when she found Hassan making their bed, her heart melted. What had she done to deserve a husband like him? She had even forgotten about the state she left their room since morning until now that she came back, wondering from where she would start clearing it off. And seeing Hassan already halfway through, she couldn't thank Allah enough for the kind of choice she made.
But deep down, she felt guilty.
Masking up her emotions, she plastered her most beautiful smile and walked up to him, "Twin!" She squealed and hugged him from behind, wrapping her hands around his waist, she rocked them softly, "I haven't seen you for long!" She mumbled and rested her head on his back, smiling as widely as she could. This was where she belonged, hugging the man she was created for. He was her haven.
He chuckled and turned to face her, placing his hands on her shoulders while his eyes roamed into hers, "Singleton, have you slept? Your eyes have turned slightly red." He noticed, every single thing about her, and it was all flattering and sometimes, she whined that he knew her so much.
She pouted her lips this time too, "I slept, I was so tired that I felt like collapsing so I ran, Hajia was fine, right?"
He chuckled, "My not so strong Singleton. Hajia was fine, I'm glad you rested, sorry I wasn't there for you to rest so well with, we would've eloped to somewhere quiet, right?" She chuckled and nodded her head like the baby she was, so innocent and full of pure love.
She hugged him again, resting her head on his chest and he wrapped his hands around her waist. "Thank you for being so helpful, Singleton. Hajia loves you, we all do."
She chuckled and looked up at him, "Second H doesn't love me, that man can get you married today if he has the chance to." He laughed along with her while shaking his head.
"He's nice if you get to know him, but right now, I can say he's not in the mood today."
"Why? Something happened?"
"Yes, his clingy admirer is here today, and she might spend a few days before she goes back to Kaduna." He threw his head back and laughed, remembering the expression Hussain had when they saw her today, smiling widely at them.
And it was wondering how she managed to recognize him, maybe because the person she liked, no, the one she loved amongst them had never smiled at her? That was enough.
"Oh my god! Please don't tell me the good news, should we start planning a wedding already?" Hassan laughed and pinched her cheeks.
"Singleton, I just told you, he's not in his greatest mood today, don't even let him know that I've told you about her. I don't think he hates someone like that girl, and she's beautiful, I don't know why he just couldn't get married to her." He chuckled and shrugged off his shoulders.
"What's her name? Is she in Hajia's chamber? I need to see her, so I'll know the right words to choose when advising Hajia to get him married. Is she your relative too?" She asked in one breath, she didn't know why she was so excited. Maybe because she loved weddings? Or because she if he got married, she would finally be having a time of her own with her beloved husband?
"Yes, her father is Baba's younger brother. Her name is Mufeeda, Nadia, don't act as I tell you this." He laughed and they sealed a pinky promise.
They cleared the room together and when they were done, they had their bath before they left for Hajia's chamber to have their dinner, Nadia was so excited because she could finally get to see the woman that fell in love with Hussain, what was so attractive about him?
She smacked her head softly, 'Whatever is attractive about your husband, that's what's attractive about him, you idiot!' She answered herself and softly giggled before Hassan turned the doorknob and they walked into the chamber.
She wondered how all those people evacuated from the house all within the evening, was it because they mostly all lived in Katsina? And their other relatives that didn't live in Katsina weren't able to come expect for a few and they have their houses to reside? She couldn't help but feel relieved that they were left alone, except for Mufeeda, their new addition, maybe another in-law soon.
"Hajia!" She drawled with a small smile on her lips as she moved to where Hajia was seated and softly sat beside her, rested her head on her shoulder, "I left you with all the work, right? I'm so sorry Hajia, I felt like dying, I was so tired that I had to run away." She chuckled when Hajia smacked her arm.
"There were workers, Nadia. I'm so happy you ran away, how are you feeling now? You should have asked Hassan to serve you on the bed, like the princess or let me rephrase that, the queen you are." Nadia chuckled happily and before she replied, Hussain walked into the living room, it was evident that he was from the mosque and remembering they had their prayer together with Hassan in their room, she stifled her laughter, at least she had him today.
Through her peripheral view, as she spoke endlessly with Hajia, she watched as the two brothers conversed lovingly and laughed, and by Allah, she knew it would take an eternity for her to know who her husband was. She might spend the rest of her life guessing who was Hassan and who Hussain was.
Just in, Suhaila walked in hand in hand while giggling with a lady, she might be 18 or maybe 19, and she was so beautiful like Hassan said. She needn't be told that she was Mufeeda, and on reflex, she grinned widely at her while turning to their side, and she didn't know who their eyes met was either Hassan or Hussain, nonetheless, she mouthed.
"Twin, is she Mufeeda? The one we're forcing your Twin to marry?" The next thing she felt was the remote on her laps, thrown by one of the men.
"Yes, she is the one, the one your husband is taking as a second wife." He spoke through gritted teeth and right there, Hassan burst out laughing while doing all he could to cover his mouth.
Hussain turned to look at him with annoyance, "I told you, First H, this your wife doesn't even know how to gossip."
Nadia thumped her feet on the floor, "How can I know you were the one when you were sitting right beside him? There," she turned to look at Mufeeda that was staring at Hussain with sheer adulation with a loving smile on her lips, "A wife for you and leave my husband alone! Mufeeda, welcome to the gang, I hope you can differentiate your annoying husband from my sweet and loving one?"
Before she ended her words, Hussain had aimed at her with another remote and she ran to Hassan and hugged him, glaring at Hussain while she rolled her eyes at him when their eyes met and pouted her lips. He made an expression that sent a chill down her spine and she hid her face on Hassan's chest, who laughed and spoke. "Second H, stop scaring my wife!"Hey, Lovelies! When was the last time I updated? Abi na last year?😂 I don't even know how to apologize, I'm so sorry, busy and writing other books. Y'all have to thank My Twinno, Aisha, she's the reason why I wrote today. Happy Birthday, My Darling, I love you. Cheers to Adulthood, baby girl. xx.
