Chapter 3

It felt like two minutes had passed when I woke up to the muffled sound of the pilot warning us about our landing. I shook Emily's shoulder and woke the already cranky girl up. She whined and turned around, I chuckled and gathered my things.

Of course, we lucked out with seats in the back of the plane, so we were on of the last people out. Although, we did have good bathroom seats, which was a blessing and a curse.

Emily fluffed up her hair and yawned into a slouch. I chuckled, there's nothing new.

Everyone was finally leaving the plane, so we took our chance and stood up. I gathered my things and walked through the isles with Emily zombying behind me.

The stairs to the ground were quite startling. It reminded me of something the president would step down when he got off a plane. My short legs and small feet wouldn't stand a chance.

I take a quick breather and start down the stairs, my eyes set on the next step down. Halfway down the stairs, I felt like I got the hang of it. I looked around at the scenery of the area.

That one glance away was all it took. My feet slipped out from under me and I went tumbling down the stairs. It happened so fast, all I felt was my head hit something hard and I was out for the count.

I woke up in a small white room laying across a couch. An ice pack slid from my head when I moved it. I lifted it from my head and went to sit up.

"Whoa, easy there," Emily laughed at me, "you probably shouldn't try that."

I sighed, "How long was it?"

She looked at her watch, "Like ten minutes ago."

I whine and close my eyes, "Where even are we?"

"Still at the airport, some kind of makeshift clinic or something," she swung herself up onto the counter and let her feet sway.

A lady came in and closed the door, "Nasty fall you had there girl..." she said and shook her head, "20 steps. You're lucky you didn't break anything during that fall."

I was looking at Emily the whole time. She was smiling and clearly not doing a good enough time holding back the lyric from coming out, "The mighty fall, the mighty fall!" she sang.

I laughed and the lady looked at her like she was deranged, which could be true.

"Right, anyways, we need to ask you a few questions to make sure you're okay. It's simply asking if you remember key things to your life," she told me and sat down in a chair.

"Sure," I say and slowly sit up.

She pulled out a clipboard and read off some questions, "What's your full name?"

"Leah Rose Carter," I replied easily.

"Who is your friend?"

"Emilia Jordan Williams," I looked at her as I said it. She never liked when I called her Emilia.

"How old are you?"

"I'm 23 and Emily's 21."

"Where was your flight to and from?" she flipped the page and asked.

"We flew from Florida to Chicago for the last show in the Monumentour." I smiled excitedly and said. Honestly I felt fine and wondered why I had to be asked all of these questions.

"Okay, last one, what are the names of your parents?"

I stopped, "My parents?"

The lady lifted her eyes to me, "Do you not remember?"

"No, no, I remember, but..."

Emily stepped in, "How about we try a different question?"

I read the lady's name tag, Jaclyn. Jaclyn shook her head and looked back up to me, "Is there a reason why you can't tell me?"

My hands clenched the seat under me. It's not that I'm ashamed of my parents. They were good people. They just weren't exactly ready for a baby at the time I was born. My mom was 18 when she had me, she was still in high school, just finishing up senior year. My dad was 20, starting up college. From what I heard, they were nice and a cute couple. I wish I had them as parents, but I think they made the right choice when they put me up for adoption.

The center I stayed in wasn't necessarily the most popular. Rarely was someone picked up, and it was never me. I lived there until I was 18, when I was done with high school and could legally live on my own.

I looked down at the tile and muttered their names, "John Thompson and Jamie Carter."

She looked a little confused, but accepted my answer, "Okay, so you remembered your past, and you passed all the other tests I could give you, so I guess you're free to go. Although you should try not to be too crazy at your concert today. Get some rest before and after the show."

"Thank you," I said and slid off my seat. Emily squealed and put her arms around my neck as Jaclyn shut the door.

"Let's go!" she shrieked and pulled me out the door.

Apparently she already rented a car and hopped in it. Emily started it and drove out of the parking lot.

"Why did they even need to test me?" I asked and rubbed the small bruise on the back of my head.

"They thought you had a concussion or something, I don't know. I was just hoping I got your parents names right," she said.

"Sorry," I blushed a little and looked out the window, "So where to? We've got about 3 hours."

She looked at me like it was obvious, "Umm, duh, we go shopping."
