3: Boundary Set

Izuku stood in the standard season one "Deku" costume. However, with his own preference of black and blue, the green and white were changed respectively. The red shoes sort of clashed, but he didn't mind.

Izuku was standing beside Todoroki and Tsu, since Ochaco and Katsuki were talking behind the three.

Seeing the taller, stoic, male beside him, Izuku decided to introduce himself, hoping by chance that this Todoroki would be a bit more friendly.

"Hey, I'm Izuku Midoriya. It's nice to meet you." Izuku said with his hand up.

When Todoroki turned, he immediately noticed that instead of the rather creepy version of his season one outfit, he wore a black jumpsuit, and didn't cover his body in ice.

"Shoto Todoroki. A pleasure." He replied, shaking Izuku's hand with another nod.

'Has he embraced his powers already? Or did the event not happen? No, the scar is still there. Maybe it was... diffused or something.'

Izuku then grimaced at the thought of a full power Todoroki this early in the series.

'Please, let me fight Katsuki.' He hoped.

"Now, it's time for combat training! This exercise will be used as a method to gauge your critical-thinking skills, time-management, Quirk-efficiency, and your judgment overall, while getting a grasp of your prior knowledge."

All Might was quick to deliver the rundown of the exercise.

"Instead of Urban battles like the entrance exam, we'll be moving two steps ahead, seeing as most altercations take place outside. However, more fiendish and dangerous crimes are commit indoors, under circumstances disadvantageous to the heroes.

For this exercise, you'll be split into Villains and Heroes and fight 2-on-2 indoor battles. This battle is to understand those basics that you may lack. We are here to learn after all, and experience is the best teacher." All Might explained.

'This All Might... He seems to be much more educated or, stern, in a sense. He takes this very seriously. Maybe he wasn't injured in this reality.' Izuku thought with concern, ignorant to All Might's glance in his direction.

"Here is the basic rundown of your scenarios;" All Might opened a script, making Izuku smirk seeing that even this version couldn't do it all. "Villains have hidden a nuclear weapon in their hideout. The Heroes are trying to dispose of that. The Heroes must foil the Villains plan by capturing the villains or retrieving the nuclear weapon in the allotted time."

'The exercise is the same. That's nice. I just have to leave it to chance that the teams are the same!' Izuku thought.

"Teams and opponents will be chosen by lots! So treat this as a way to discern your classmates styles!" All Mighy cheered with a fist pump.

Ochaco glared at Izuku as he stood with a white ball with the letter A on it. He laughed nervously and looked away as she squeezed the same ball in irritation.

As Izuku ignored her, he noticed that Katsuki held a black ball with the Letter D, just like he remembered.

"And it seems that Team A, Heroes, will be facing Team D, Villains! Everyone else, we will observe your classmates from the monitor room. Be sure to pay attention and take notes!" All Might marched away, with most of the class immediately following behind him.

Izuku and Katsuki smiled at each other, before it turned into a competitive smirk.

However, their rivalry was cut short when a peer in white armor walked through their gaze, the helmet over his face portraying that they weren't here for fun.

Katsuki walked with him, and left Izuku and Ochaco.

"Listen. I've seen what you're capable of. We all have. And if this is a grade, I don't want you bitching on me like you almost did at the entrance exams. Capeesh?" Ochaco asked with a hand on her hip.

Izuku turned back to her, and rose a brow, his confused gesture making her sigh.

"I hate to say this, but I need you to kick your hot friend's ass." Ochaco requested.

"O-Oh, okay. I'll do my best!" Izuku nodded, feeling a bit pressured since she was brash and overbearing.

To prove this, she began shoving him in the direction of their designated building.

Inside the designated building, Tenya Iida, the student in white armor sat the papermache nuclear weapon down in a room filled with pillars and construction resources.

His silence was a bit annoying to Katsuki, since he was willing to cooperate if it meant he'd finally get to see Izuku's Quirk in action.

"Hey, Turbo. If you don't have any plans in mind, since the speed department falls on Izuku, why don't we both station ourselves on the third floor?" Katsuki asked with little interest.

Iida turned with intrigue, "I'm sure you recall during homeroom, the clip Mr. Aizawa showed us? Midoriya is durable. We'll need to overwhelm him and then apprehend the two when he's fatigued. Do you have means to stun him?" Iida asked.

"I have a few ideas in mind. What ya' thinking?" Katsuki smirked.

"A Flashbang into a surprise attack should take the two out swiftly. So long as they don't see it coming, or the effects are efficient." Iida suggested.

"Hmm... while I don't support such quick work, a grade is a grade. Let's try it." Katsuki shrugged, hoping that his friend would be able to play around such an 'underhanded' tactic.

"You memorize the floor plan, yet?" Ochaco asked, sitting on railing outside the building.

"Hm? Yeah, you?" Izuku asked.

"More or less," She replied. "Bakugo's your best friend, right? You think he's got some trick up his sleeve?"

"Well, he's always been straightforward and blunt, so I'd assume he'd take us head on. However... Iida is who I'm worried about. He's... mysterious. It kinda worries me."

"Does it? Well, whatever. I'm sure you can handle it. Let's get this grade, okay?" Ochaco held up her knuckles to him, a neutral yet content look on her face.

"Yeah. Let's." Izuku knocked his knuckles against hers, just as All Might cleared his throat through their earpieces.

"Now, let's start the indoor person-to-person combat training! Good luck, Teams A and D!" All Might announced, "START!"

In the Monitor Room, the rest of the class was observing many different angles in and outside the building in a grid of cameras.

One camera showed Izuku hop through a window, with Ochaco float in after him, both landing rather silently.

'Izuku Midoriya. A student who saved another by blocking a Zero-Pointer's punch with his scrawny frame. How is that...? I hope to find out.' All Might thought.

The rest of the class looked on to see that Katsuki was creeping down the stairs with Iida trying his best to be silent behind him.

"There are dozens of blind spots. I'll lead us since I can take more damage. If you hear anything, don't freeze. Just avoid the initial direction." Izuku whispered.

"And in case of a pincer?"

"Duck down." Izuku said ominously.

Since passing the entrance exam, Izuku had to strike it into his brain what he was now enrolled in. He was on the path to becoming a hero, just like original. But now that his duty was such, he needed to think just like the old would, and plan accordingly with the knowledge on hand.

There was no time to be scared of the future.

As the two walked down the second floor's corridors, the two felt a sense of anticipation, like something was coming. Izuku suddenly held up his hand, making Ochaco stop.

'I thought Katsuki would've attacked by now—'

A sudden clank behind them made the two turn to a rusty pipe hitting the ground. Having fell for the distraction, Izuku and Ochaco turned back to see Katsuki with an orange glow in his palm, smirking as he aimed it at the two.

"Stun-Grenade!" Katsuki shouted.

Late on the uptake, Izuku and Ochaco were stunned by the bright flash of Katsuki's minor explosion, making both bring their arms up over their eyes in pain and shock.

With a sudden whistle, Iida rushed out from behind Katsuki and appeared in front of Izuku with his foot raised for a straight kick aimed right at his abdomen.

Despite Izuku's daze, some internal and external force thrust his arms down in time to block the kick, but not the impact.

Izuku was sent crashing into Ochaco, and the two flew down the hall, rolling against each other before skidding to a stop with Ochaco against the wall and Izuku on his face.

"O-Ow! Damn, he got you good! You alright?!" Ochaco asked, only a bit bruised from the tumble.

"What?! A surprise attack from the start?! That wasn't manly at all!" Kirishima, the boy with red, rigid hair wearing no shirt and baggy pants cuffed into boots.

"However, it is a strategy. This is a real battle, so they should do anything to overtake their opponents." All Might replied.

"Midori blocked it though! So cool!" Mina cheered.

"Uh oh, those two are hauling ass!" Kaminari shouted.

Izuku looked up in a daze to see Katsuki and Iida rushing the two head on.

"Hey, we need a plan! Come on, you're the tank here!" Ochaco yanked Izuku to his feet, but leapt back seeing Katsuki rushing in with a right cross.

Izuku's eyes widened, his senses heightening with the sudden view of danger.

"Come on, Izuku!" Katsuki shouted, throwing his palm down.

Izuku lunged forward, letting the explosion graze his costume as he wrapped his arms around Katsuki's right.

'Just... like I know!' Izuku thought, spinning around and slamming Katsuki into the incoming Iida, returning the favor of the latter's kick.

Izuku huffed as he regained his balance, rubbing his left shoulder that was grazed by Katsuki.

"Are you okay?!" Izuku asked Ochaco.

"You're asking me?! Wai— DUCK!" She yelled in shock.

Izuku trusted her and rolled backwards, popping up off his back to jump towards the ceiling and dodge another kick from Iida.

Katsuki burst forward and grabbed Izuku's arms, throwing him down towards Iida, who jumped up with his leg reeled back.

"They're targeting Midoriya?!" Tsu realized.

"It would seem they're trying to dispatch the biggest threat. We've all seen what he can do." Yaoyorozu responded.

"It would seem that way. But he's not going down easy!" Jiro awed.

Izuku blocked the kick from Iida, crashing back into the ceiling with a grunt, before falling on his arms.

Izuku stood up, nearly unfazed and hopped on his toes.

'This is insane! I have no time to breathe!' Izuku thought as he did his best to block and avoid.

Weaving away from one of Iida's kicks, he was punched in his hip from Katsuki. Going to retaliate, Izuku was interrupted by a roundhouse to his head that he blocked by sheer luck.

Unfortunately, Iida used his other leg to hop up and spin around as Katsuki lunged forward as well with sparks popping from his right palm.

'Don't worry, You'll be fine.' A soft, mature voice called.

Izuku's eyes turned from grey to blue as the two's attacks closed in.

"OCHACO!" Izuku yelled, stomping his foot down and planting himself.

Lunging at the two with vigor, Izuku left a web of cracks on the floor as he slammed his leg into Iida's, using the momentum to twist and lock hands with Katsuki, taking the explosion to his palm instead.

Izuku slammed his free hand into Katsuki's chest, before ducking under Iida's high kick and shoving him off balance.

Ochaco rushed out from the corner and sprinted down to slap both Iida and Katsuki on their shoulders, fleeing behind Izuku as he pulled out his confinement tape.

With a distorted whistle, Izuku appeared behind the two with the tape nearly covering both of their torsos.

Unfortunately, Katsuki blasted himself away and towards Ochaco seeing as he began floating. His aerial movement was impressive before hand, and now he was weightless to add to that.

Izuku tried to at least wrap Iida, but seeing Katsuki reel his arm back towards Ochaco, he dropped the tape and disappeared with another distorted whistle.

Appearing in front of her with his arms crossed, Katsuki's explosion sent Izuku sliding back into her, but this time he made sure to protect her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. Izuku that with this distance, she had a path to the high floors now.

"Cancel your Quirk and go! I'll hold them off—"

Unfortunately, Katsuki and Iida had gotten a small grasp of how to use their abilities despite being weightless.

The two spin forward and landed two simultaneous kicks on Izuku's rib cage, making him cough up saliva, and even a bit of blood.

"G... Go!" Izuku wheezed, wrapping his arms around their legs.

Ochaco placed her fingertips together, before dashing away as fast as possible, biting her lip in concern.

As Katsuki and Iida fell, Izuku spun around and slammed them both into the wall. Katsuki was the first to jump at Izuku, kicking him in the stomach before blasting up and back down for and overhead swipe.

Izuku blocked, but under Katsuki's quick barrage, Iida flew after Ochaco with blue flames bursting from the engines on his calves.

"D-Damnit! Ochaco, Iida's on your tail!" Izuku shouted rolling away from another explosion.

"This guy's durable! He hasn't gone down to a single hit!" Sero, a boy with black hair down to his neck commented.

"He beat a Zero-Pointer, what did we expect!" Kirishima laughed.

All Might frowned looking at the groups split up, but now he got what he asked for. A full showcase of Izuku Midoriya's ability. It's why he paired him with the most hot tempered student, despite being his friend.

Izuku and Katsuki raced around the halls, trading strikes and blows at impressive speeds. In the power department, Katsuki's explosions had a more residual effect against Izuku's bruising.

Izuku slid under Katsuki with the confinement tape in his left hand. Rolling forward, he hopped up and sent a back-kick to Katsuki's palm, deflecting the incoming sneak attack.

Katsuki used the deflection's momentum to crouch low and knee Izuku's stomach with a blast from his palms to boost.

Katsuki carried his attack all the way down the hall before slamming him into the wall, making Izuku cough again in pain.

With a glare, Izuku swiped his hand out, backhanding Katsuki away with a loud thud, meaning the power behind it was sure to hurt.

Katsuki stumbled back, but caught himself in time to dodge a straight kick from Izuku. He vaulted over him, before using his left hand's explosion to spin around and punch Izuku away.

Izuku rolled away and into a much more open room in contrast of the constant narrow corridors. It was a large room with windows towards the Main Street of the Mach city.

Izuku stood up, hopping on his toes again as he shook his head, trying to get a bearing of where he was.

"Ochaco! What's your status?!" Izuku asked, hearing the explosion from Katsuki as he raced towards him.

"Fourth floor! It's next to some windows towards the street!" Ochaco sounded exhausted, seemingly dodging Iida's attacks, or at least blocking them.

Izuku himself blocked two explosive slaps from Katsuki, before being sent towards a wall with a more powerful force palm.

"Are you okay?!" Izuku asked her with concern after hearing her fatigue.

"Just have a damn plan!" Ochaco shouted, before Izuku heard her gasp and something crash.

"P... Please hold out! Just make sure he's not near the bomb, and in the center of the room on my mark! From then—"

Izuku flipped over Katsuki's left swipe and vaulted off his back, but unfortunately, Katsuki placed his free hand over the left in a circle, aiming at Izuku's back.

"Retrieve the— AGH!" Izuku screamed as pressurized explosion landed on his back, sending him crashing into the wall with a boom.

"Guess we've both, got it rough..." Ochaco joked into the mic. "Guess we aren't getting this A..." She sighed, panting as Iida rushed at her again.

"Don't say that...!" Izuku shouted, breaking from his imprint in the wall with a glare. "Get ready! I need you now more than ever, Uraraka!" Izuku yelled as his eyes began to glow blue.

"Come at me with everything you've got Katsuki! I'll show the power I've obtained!" Izuku screamed with vigor, tearing off his mask and embracing his battered and burned costume.

"Ha! That's what I wanna hear, Izuku! Lets show them that we're taking it to the top! No holding back!" Katsuki yelled, sliding his foot around and turning his left palm back, his right palm forward.

'That's Howitzer Impact! I... can counter that!' Izuku thought with a grin, smiling against the odds.

"Sir, I don't like the sound of that...! They're getting too fired up! Midoriya can't handle much more!" Kaminari warned.

"He's not looking too good. Maybe you should stop them." Tsu suggested.

"I should." All Might agreed, but his curiosity and their intensity got the better of his judgment. "But like I said: experience is the best teacher. I'll allow them to continue."

"What?! But Midori's seriously gonna get injured!" Mina shouted.

"Is it not a hero's job to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of others? Again... Learn from him. He's..." All Might smiled a bit. "A prime example of that."

Izuku clenched his fists and screamed as he tried to pull in whatever power he could muster from his body, a small distortion of white aura kicking up around him, alongside the cracks of the wall and floor.

Katsuki began crackling sparks in his hand, before clenching his muscles tight, illuminating his skin and costume in a fiery orange, steam pouring from his palms.

With a boisterous boom and distorted whistle, Katsuki and Izuku met each other in midair with glares and grins, their adrenaline getting the best of them.

Katsuki spun around like an uncontrollable top, the torpedo of smoke and steam sending him blasting forward.

As Katsuki attempted to slam his hand down on Izuku with the force of a dozen C4, Izuku suddenly kicked his foot up instead of his initial punch, and planted that foot on Katsuki's hip, and a hand on Katsuki's shoulder.

"HOWITZER IMPACT!"

Giving himself no room to dodge, Izuku was smacked right in his chest with a massive explosion that sent all glass and debris flying away, and nearly taking the entire room off its structure.

However, to match his power, Izuku called forth all of his knowledge and efforts from his time in this reality to send a kick so devastating, that a massive torrent of wind flew through Katsuki, and crashed into the ceiling.

"GRAVITY BUSTER!"

But it didn't stop there. The ceiling exploded and the power went all the way through the upper floors and through the roof of the complex, creating a tornado of concrete and stone flying skyward, while Katsuki sent a barreling flame towards the ground, nearly leveling the building.

Ochaco's eyes widened as Iida was flung away from his initial position and into the wall, having unfortunately been so close to the blast.

Ochaco took this opportunity and dashed forward, leaping through the debris as she clapped her hands together. She used the slabs of concrete to dash over the hole Izuku made, before clapping her hands again and landing on the bomb with a grunt.

"I... got it!" Ochaco announced.

All Might was a bit baffled by the strength that Izuku displayed. He wasn't necessarily a powerhouse before, it looked more-so that his body was just extremely dense or durable. His assumptions were wrong.

All Might stammered a bit as the class watched with their mouths agape. Everyone was in shock.

Izuku just looked super human at this rate.

"Hero... HERO TEAM WINS!" All Might yelled vigorously, making the class snap out of their shock and awe.

"What... the hell...?" Kaminari muttered, "the losers are practically uninjured... while the winners are on their last legs."

"They lost the battle, but won the war, huh?" Tokoyami, a male teen with a raven's face and a black cloak.

"Uh... wasn't this training?" Tsu asked in disbelief.

Izuku was placed on a stretcher, eyes half-lidded as the drones carrying him scanned his body under a green light.

His breathing was hoarse, and he got a small glimpse of All Might as they removed him from the crater Katsuki put him all the way down to the first floor.

Ochaco finally made it down to the bottom floor, and chased after Izuku as Katsuki and Iida arrived as well, the former looking worse for wear, but much better than Izuku.

All Might shivered looking at the wreckage of the Mach city, but wiped away a tear recalling his time under the teachings of U.A.

'The good ol' days...' All Might sighed.
