Wallflower: Kaminari x Shy Reader
Requested by Eh_Eh_0o0 who won 1st place in my recent writing contest. Go ahead and check out her submission when you have the time. She deserves the praise.
Also, I made many references in this oneshot but none of them can earn you a prize. How reference prizes work in this book is if you find references that I DON'T directly call out by name. Therefore, references that I directly called out like movie and character names won't count for a prize.
For the millionth time, you saw Denki pull off his most disheartening pout and glossy amber gaze. Maybe turning him down wasn't the smartest decision. Nobody can say no to a cute puppy dog and he just so happened to be yours. "Why can't we make it official?" Kaminari had finally come out and asked after bottling up his emotions for so long. You've been dreading the day the question would pop and never expect such a day to be today. It was gonna happen eventually right?
Despite his right to have an answer, you refused to give one and he knew you wouldn't give one. "I don't need to explain!" Was all you really had to say. Your boyfriend already knew the truth, no need to go around repeating everything like a broken record.
The way Kaminari's eyes squinted so much that they nearly came to a close just set in stone that he was upset with you and gave that earning glare. "Can I at least tell my class that I have a girlfriend? I'm tired of lying to my bros." 'Oh I'm not feeling good', 'I'm tired', 'can't turn down my tutor!' He's used all of those excuses a million times before and they're all beginning to work against his favor.
"Well..." You hummed. Deep down, you didn't want the news reaching anyone.
"Come on it's not like anyone talks to anybody from your class!"
That is a valid point. All you could do was shyly hide your face by slightly tilting your head down to stare at the hands that lied upon your lap. "I guess it's fine..." Your voice suggested that this decision was one you regret.
"There you go..." Kaminari managed to snake an arm around your shoulders and pulled you in just enough for his cheek to nuzzle your head of hair. "Acting like a bratty kid the second they don't get their way."
"Am not..." You didn't like the boy's teasing despite how truthful it may be.
"Really though," Kaminari simply rested his head onto top of yours. "Give me one reason why you don't want me to announce that we're dating. You mentioned something about your class but I really don't get it."
Of course Kaminari wouldn't understand. It's Kaminari we're talking about. That boy is using such little space up in his cranium that if you knock on it all you'd hear is an echo that goes on forever and ever. "You know..." You fought to pull together a few words let alone an entire response. "I hate attention and... And my class hates yours... Please don't make me talk more..."
"Way to get to the point," Kaminari snickered to your blunt yet adorable reply. "But seriously though. As I said before, nobody from my class talks to yours except maybe Kirishima and Tetsutetsu. Even then, I don't really think they talk anymore."
"Again... I gave you permission to do whatever," your face was beginning to grow rosy. Too much talking leads to this bodily response you've grown to hate more than talking itself.
"Fine," the boy pressed his lips to the top of your head and pulled back just as quickly. "See you tomorrow my beautiful Wallflower."
"See you..." You fought off the burning sensation in your cheeks as you awaited your boyfriend to leave the cafe before you so that the trip back to UA wouldn't be as bumpy.
"Nuh eh eh!" Kaminari snapped. "I gave you a goodbye kiss, now give me mine," in which this boisterous soul just had to pucker his lips in one of his most effortlessly seductive ways.
Deep down, you wanted to bite your tongue but knew better than to do so as you built up what little of a voice you had to say, "Get over here then." Your volume was just shy of what others would consider to be an 'indoor' volume. Anything was better than a whisper when it came to your voice around Kaminari. If anything, he considers your voice to be angelic as long as his ears can pick up on it. That's when he followed your clearly instructed words and knelt down for you to lightly kiss the tip of his nose. The patrons of the cafe were about to applaud the two of you, expecting the kneeling motion to be a proposal, but soon went back to their own devices.
It felt like a feather had tickled his skin as Kaminari had to fight off a potential sneeze. Either way, Kaminari was thankful and quite frankly impressed with his own self that he managed to talk you into moving out of your comfort zone for one simple kiss. Normally this feat wasn't hard to surpass being you're normally more than willing to give him kisses. To give kisses in public though, like right now, today was a genuine first for you. That's when it was time to part ways. "Are you sure that you don't want me to walk you back to your dorm?" The blonde offered as a means to spend just a few minutes longer with you.
"Only to the... Till we get to campus," you settled on a clear cut compromise.
Kaminari held out his arm which was bent at the elbow. "Then shall we get going my beautiful Wallflower?"
"One of these days I'll be less shy and you'll stop using that pet name on me..."
"When that day comes I'll stop."
"Why not now?" You whined.
"Your dad is one of the most loud and obnoxious guys in our school and yet you're his polar opposite. If it wasn't for your quirk, I would've never known you two were related. So, once you start acting more like him, I'll stop calling you a Wallflower." For once, Kaminari put up a valid argument. It was one you couldn't argue against for a change. Curse your genetics!
"That's fair," your lip began to puff out. "Now take me home."
Apparently, information travels fast in such a little span of time. By morning of the next day, news had gotten around that a student from Class 1A was 'hitched' to a student from Class 1B. The drama was poisonous! The idea that all of your classmates were arguing over who the potential 'traitor' was, much like a bad case of Romeo and Juliet, had your anxiety skyrocket. It came as no surprise when you came to the grand decision to skip out on class in order to beg your father to take a day off from studies. It was either you stuck around in class and pass out thanks to the near dodge of an anxiety attack or quite simply take a day to recollect. Dad was completely for the idea, thankfully. However, your sudden disappearance had set in stone that you were the mystery Cinderella to Kaminari's Prince Charming and everyone from class couldn't wait for your return to the dorms after school.
Your father had treated not only himself but you as well to milkshakes as to cool down your riled nerves. The waitress sat down one tall frosted milkshake between the two of you. A mountain of cloud like whipped cream topping sitting afloat in an ocean of delectable goodness with a ripe cherry on top. Just how you liked it. However, even your favorite father daughter activity wasn't perking up your mood in the slightest. In fact, he grew ever more concerned and nudged you on the shoulder with his fingerless gloved hands. "How ya doing kiddo?" The man forced a smile in your direction but all he saw was glossy eyes and a steeply arched frown.
It's probably just me but whenever Mic isn't in uniform he looks so much like a dad.
"Daddy... How do I deal with everything?" You overbearingly sighed. You knew that the second you come back to the dorms the class will barrage you were questions and ridicule galore.
"The boy thing?" Hizashi already understood what the real problem was but just wanted to make sure. Your sullen nod of the head had sat everything in place. "I really don't see a problem here Kid. You got yourself a BF. Aren't most girls your age normally geeking out over this sort of thing?" The man scratched the tuft of hair that sat upon his chin. You'd think that all of his years as a teacher he'd pick up on more than just a few things.
"Yes..." You agreed. "Before I went and got you, everyone was saying horrible things about 'me' even though they had no clue that I'm the one dating Kaminari. I don't care if 1A are our rivals... I love him for who he is. Why does rivalry have to interfere with everything?" Getting your emotions out took a lot out of you. That milkshake suddenly became appetizing as if you haven't eaten in weeks and well, you snatched it right up. Despite the fact you were supposed to be sharing with your father, you were slurping the entire thing down as if it was your job.
Hizashi had always known that his daughter was a bit of a stress eater, but this was nothing compared to what he's had to deal with before. "I'll just order another one, it's fine," your father snickered as he then began thinking of a way to respond to your heartfelt confession. "Okay so... Steer me onto the right path girl!" Hizashi held out his index finger. "Mah Girl's getting bullied for dating someone? Someone who hasn't done a single wrong thang?" You nodded in agreement. "That's jank!"
"Why are you using so many teenage terms?" You regret your existence in this embarrassing situation.
"I'm an MC, it's my THANG!" The blonde man's voice echoed across the cafe after holding it back for so long. Luckily, there were little patrons here being it was first thing in the morning when everyone is at school and work. Even then, with dad in his casual clothes instead of his hero uniform, you're sure that the staff here had connected the dots that he's Pro Hero Present Mic. Not phased at all by the disturbance he caused, Hizashi continued. "Don't let those heathens get you down! Put them in their place! They don't understand love when they see it. Love is love! Nothing should get between you and sparky boy."
Wow. That's all you could think. Dad actually gave you some genuine advice besides 'scream your lungs out until you get your point across. It always works.' "Kaminari told me to start acting more like you. He likes it when I'm 'audible'," You manually put the air quotes around audible and couldn't help but to giggle with glee. Everything Kaminari says is so wholesome.
"Well," Hizashi pushed on his wire frame spectacles to better hug his face. "Maybe that's what you need to do."
"Huh?" You stopped sipping on your milkshake.
"Maybe if you were more like me, your classmates wouldn't walk all over ya. Just tell them to screw off if they try to start anything with ya."
"Okay... Yeah, sounds nice," You hummed. "Thanks dad."
"My pleasure sweetheart," the man wore his famous ear to ear smile. "NOW CAN SOMEONE GET ME ANOTHER MILKSHAKE!!!"
From that moment on, you embraced the fact that you were dating that dreamy blonde from Class 1A. In fact, you couldn't be anymore thankful that Kaminari announced the relationship to his peers. Although, it was a wise decision to just ignore your class for the rest of the day. The rest of the night was spent boosting your confidence. You know, like any child would. To line up all your stuffed animals you received from Kaminari and your father and lastly mirrors in a row and try to speak loudly. To speak loudly was easily achieved, but becoming comprehensible was a problem. Everything came out as a jumbled mess of ear splitting gibberish. Kaminari better appreciate the fact that you're putting yourself out there for him. Hopefully, your Wallflower nickname will die off. Not like you distaste it that much to begin with. It's just that it's time to break out of your cocoon of insecurities and bloom into a beautiful butterfly.
As expected, when your expected arrival to the classroom came around the very next morning, a select few classmates approached you. The most expected was Monoma and Kendou. Monoma because he detests Class 1A with a burning passion and Kendou because she's the only one who can keep Monoma in line. Everyone else isn't the most thrilled that you so happen to be dating a rival, but it's not like you're hurting anyone and that's why they couldn't really care less about the subject as of now.
"So," Monoma's calm and collected expression morphed into that of a crazed maniac in a second flat. He wears that expression whenever he loses at something, whatever it may be, or at the mention of the subject of the rivaling class. He's been looking more and more like a maniac by the day just for the calm and collected Monoma to settle down in history. "You got guts dating our rivals. What are you doing, feeding our techniques and weaknesses to them? That pea brain is only dating you for your information or your body. That's how all boys work!!!" Monoma's awkward sinister laugh flooded from his mouth and all you did was sit there with a smug look on your face in anticipation for what's to come.
"Leave her alone Neito," Kendou 'bonked' her enlarged fist over her classmate's head. "We don't need her vomiting again and bullying is so unlike you-"
"No,no... Let me handle this," you projected a healthy indoor voice as you stood up from your desk with your head held high. This newfound confidence had Kendou's jaw unhinge ever so slightly as she stepped off to the side and allowed you to do your work. Even Monoma didn't expect you to speak in response let alone respond at albeit a word or sound. You coughed to your throat. "Do you ever have anything better to do than plot against the other class?" The fact that you smiled throughout that entire sentence sent chills down the blonde's spine. That's when your lungs expanded to capacity to the mass amount of air to fill them, "SCREW OFF MONOMA! QUIT BEING JEALOUS OF THE OTHER CLASS AND WHO I DATE IS NONE OF YOUR CONCERN!" Your voice made the walls of the classroom shutter. Everyone was wide eyed and had their hands pressed to their ears. Monoma was petrified. At times like this, you loved how your father's quirk was at your disposal and will no longer be collecting dust.
Everyone in the class next door was shaken up and could only stare at Kaminari. "You had to date Present Mic's daughter..." Jiro whined. She swears that your voice is even more deafening than Mic's.
Kaminari held his hands high above his head to show he meant no harm. "In my defense, I mean YEAH I told her to start acting more like her dad, but she rarely speaks." Even as a hero in training, you rarely use your quirk due to shyness. Hence why you aren't in his class as only a few more points in your entrance exam would've placed you there.
"Say that to my fucking eardrums!!!" Bakugou screamed into the face of his desk.
"Yeah... I think I'll pass," Kaminari sank lower and lower into his seat. "See you later my Beautiful Wallflower."
Wow, I really like this oneshot. That two week hiatus was what I needed. The detail and character I was lacking in my previous oneshots are back.
