Toko: Tokoyami x Reader

Your heart skipped a beat as you fell forward all so suddenly, you tripped, if only you would have lifted your foot up just a centimeter or two more, the toe of your shoe would’ve never caught the doorframe. Just an inch above the cement floor, everything stopped? A sweat rolled down your forehead and dripped off to kiss the ground. You turned your head off to the side and found your dear friend in moon kissed armor stand just a few feet from you. His shadow held you by your arms and proceeded to put you back upon your feet all so gently like a parent to a child. The bird grinned with rosy cheeks and gathered your books from the floor. You grinned in return with a tilt of your head.

“Thanks Toko,” you thanked your classmate with such a sweet smile it warmed his heart.

“Well somebody has to be there to catch you,” he replied coolly without a change in voice.

“I’m a clumsy piece of trash,” you giggled. Dark Shadow lifted himself up from the ground after straightening up your books that was previously fallen and all in a disarray. Books all neatly stacked and sat within his palms. You took them within your possession once again, petting the bird atop his head. The shadow bird purred weirdly enough.

“I wouldn’t say that you’re trash… But you are quite clumsy,” Tokoyami agreed with you to an extent with a hum.

“I know, it's a miracle I can even keep up in the hero course,” you giggled again. His dark shadow kept nudging against your side making purring noises like a cat? “Is there a reason why Shadow is clingy when it comes to me?”

“Keep in mind that thing has a mind of its own,” Tokoyami didn’t call off his shadow and resumed to let the bird act like a clingy cat.

“I know, it’s rather cute,” you pet Shadow once again. “So, are we going out again?”

“If that’s what you desire,” Tokoyami replied.

“Why do you always agree with whatever I want?” You pout playfully. “Come on let’s do something you want to do!” You exclaimed.

“She’s not wrong that you tend to go with the flow Tokoyami,” Kirishima pointed out. Tokoyami glanced off to his right towards the redhead.

“What’re you doing listening in on our conversation?” Tokoyami glared at him.

“Forget me, do (Y/n) a favor and pick a place to hang out,” Kirishima left without another word, your best friend sighed.

“How about a walk?” Tokoyami suggested, you smiled in response.

“That sounds great Toko.”

Afterschool, you both changed out of your uniforms and headed out on into the city for a nice walk while the sun begins to set. You’ve always loved hanging out with Tokoyami for some reason, he deals with your childish antics and keeps you in line. Much like now. “Toko! When was the last time you went to the playground?” You exclaimed, running off into the empty playground. Wood Chips were kicked up within the air after each stride you took. Tokoyami blinked, he didn’t expect this sudden turn of events.

“I… Guess I haven’t went to a playground since I was a child,” Tokoyami admits all so unsure.

“Then get your butt over here and swing with me!” You waved, sitting down upon the seat of an empty swing set and kicked your feet. With each kick of your feet you went another few inches within the air. Suddenly, your seat was pulled back and you were swinging pretty high, the highest you’ve swung in years. You peered behind yourself and saw Tokoyami and Dark Shadow propelling your seat forwards. “I should’ve known that was you,” you giggled.

“Quit leaning back within your seat unless you want to fall off,” he warned instead of replying to your previous comment.

“Fine,” you point and continued to swing.

“(Y/n)... Do you like me?” Tokoyami asked suddenly.

“Well yeah, why else am I here with you Toko,” you giggled.

“I meant it though, would you go on a date with me if I were to ask?” You rolled your eyes playfully.

“Like right now?” You snickered. “Cause if it is, I’d love to.”

“That’s a relief,” Tokoyami sighed. “Thought you only thought of me as a friend for a while there-”

“I sort of always thought of you as a boyfriend, what’re you saying?” You jumped off the swing at its highest point and surprisingly landed perfectly upon your feet. Definitely a surprise for how clumsy you usually are. It left him speechless. “No regular guy would deal with my crazy butt unless he truly liked me, is that right Tokoyami?”

“That’s the first time you’ve called me by my real name,” Tokoyami almost stuttered.

“You don’t like it? Good, cause I love calling you Toko.”

“I’m too used to the name-forget that-glad to have you here with me (Y/n).”
