Mourn: Deku x Reader x Bakugou
This is an adult AU.
Life has its highs and lows like a rollercoaster at a theme park. Some can foretell when the next drop approaches, while others are taken completely by surprise. One thing for sure is that nobody can tell how long the drop will last and your family are completely blind as of now. Everything gradually became worse and worse with no signs of looking up. That’s your problem, life has come to a standstill. An hour feels like an entire day while a day felt like a year. You can’t remember the last time you’ve smiled either, nobody can...
You’ve found no motivation behind putting life back on track. Your husband, the Number Two Hero, Katsuki Bakugou, won’t give up on you but his patience is awfully low as of now. He found you where you’re almost always found, standing before a window wearing that mournful frown that’s became regular as of late. Katsuki’s tired of everything too, but he hasn’t been taking everything as far as you have. In an attempt to make things better, your husband had snaked his arms around your waist. When you didn’t dare to react, he began grow needy for attention. Nudging you, clearing his throat, then resting his head upon your yours. “You should really come back…” He began to sigh. Why won’t you ever acknowledge him anymore? “I miss working with you out on the field.”
“You know I can’t...” You peeled his arms from your waist. “I really don’t get it. Are you not aware of how much I just went through?” The last year of hell, how can anyone ignore that? Your eyes began to show your true emotions as tears freely fled from them to collect onto the floor. “I don’t think I can ever go back to hero work… Especially not now…”
“Look at you,” Katsuki crossed his arms. His patience has finally ran out. “You think you’re suffering? I’m going through the same shit as you! It’s not all about you.”
“I’m aware,” you sighed once again and began to pull on your coat that once was on the coat tree. “I know you’re upset, I know you’ve been working overtime to distract yourself, but face it… We’re not the same. Everyone copes differently. I know you mean well but, could you please give me some space? I’ve been seeing a counsellor just like the doctor told me.”
“Fine, I’ll knock it off with the questions,” Katsuki understood your position in everything. To mourn and cope, most everyone does it differently. Some choose help, some choose to be alone, others choose to distract. You both chose the distraction route. Before you could leave, Katsuki blocked the door preventing your leave.
“What’s wrong now?” You began to complain.
“Will you still consider my idea?” One last question to ensure everything is set in stone.
“I’m all for it,” you nod. “Just not now… Later… When I’m ready to move on.”
“Fair enough,” Bakugou turned on his heel and opened up the front door for you. “The agency forced me to take a day off… I’ll be here all day. Come home as soon as you’re done with whatever.”
“Good thing they did,” When was the last time Katsuki took time off? All he ever does it take overtime as of lately. So, as you were about to step out, you kissed your husband lightly on the lips. “Take this time to finally accept reality instead of ignoring it.”
Katsuki cherished what little affection you finally gave him. “Leave before I go with you,” he smirked.
“Love you,” you shyly waved and began your stroll to the nearby park. For the last few weeks, you’ve found yourself going there to watch the children frolic about the grass and trees to have the time of their lives. Children can be their carefree selves, play pretend, act like animals too if that’s what they really want. Everyone has that one thing that beings them ease, in your case it’s children. Babies always melted your heart especially now with everyone from highschool getting down to business and having children of their own. You’d never say no to babysitting, in fact, you’re their go to sitter. In all honesty though, being here is probably one of the worst decisions you could be making given your mental state. If anything, it makes you feel worse than ever before…
“(Y/n)!” You jolted within your spot hearing your name spoken. After being so enamoured by the children, anything came as a surprise. A quick glance to your right, that freckled angel you haven’t spoken to in years was standing there in the flesh. “Nice to see you (Y/n)! Haven’t seen you since the wedding,” Oh right, it’s been a year already? It doesn’t feel like that much time has already passed.
“Yeah,” you forced yourself to smile. “I’ve been a bit busy since then…” That’d be an understatement. Nothing has been accomplished.
“So have I!” Midoriya sat down beside you. “I haven’t really had the time to plan my own wedding with me being Number One and all.”
“Oh,” you snickered. “Proposed to Ochako yet?”
“We’ve been engaged for a while,” his cheeks flushed pink as he held up his right hand. A silver band hugged his ring finger. “She’s eight months pregnant. I couldn’t be any happier. What about you?”
“What about me?” You hummed.
“I mean you’re here,” the boy motioned to his surroundings. “Did you take your kid here to play?” Once again, coming here to this park wasn’t such a good idea, especially now given the subject of the conversation.
“I don’t have kids… Sorry,” you frowned.
“But Kacchan told me a while ago that you were pregnant-”
“I keep having miscarriages…” You looked down into your hands. “My last miscarriage landed me in the hospital. I came home a few days ago actually and Katsuki’s a mess… We want kids but… We just can’t. I can’t,” you’re still accepting the reality that you can’t have a child of your own and so is Katsuki. He’s admittedly doing a lot worse than you are since he almost lost you to the pregnancy. He’s trying to look on the bright side, offering adoption or asking someone else to carry the child, but again and again, you’re not ready to make that step just yet. Something doesn’t feel right.
"I…" Midoriya wonders if he should even speak up. He has no experience with problems like these. "Nobody should ever go through what you two are going through. Like, are you okay? I'm here for you if you need it."
"Honestly," you sighed. "Still accepting the fact that I can't have a child of my own."
"Are you against adoption? I think that as long as you can have a kid, period, everything would look up," Midoriya began to smile gently. If you can’t reach a resolution one way, think of another. "I think Kacchan would make a great dad and I just so happen to know the perfect kid for you both."
"You do?" Midoriya would really go out of his way to get you both a kid?
"I do," now the boy was smiling ear to ear. "You can have mine."
Your eyes went large, "Midoriya… R-Really I can't do that to you-"
"It's fine really!" He assured. "I'm not the happiest, but Ochako has been talking about adoption for a while since she isn't ready to give up hero work just yet," she is awful young. Imagine getting pregnant and having to give up everything you've worked for because of the child. "You and Kacchan can have a baby just like you both always wanted, Ochako can continue being a hero, I can always try for another kid down the road. Everyone's happy," throughout everything, your eyes began to flood with tears. It gave him many mixed signals. "A-Are you not happy (Y/n)?"
"Nothing can describe how I feel right now!" You sniffled wiping your face into your shoulder. Midoriya opened up his arms whereas you pounced on him and cried into his shoulder. "Thank you Deku… Thank you…"
"Anything for you and Kacchan."
You broke away suddenly, "I want to tell him right now!"
"Do you want me there with you?" Midoriya grabbed you by the wrist before you could leave.
"No… No, I got it," you tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. “You know… I really didn’t want a kid so soon, but really… It’s much more meaningful you’re letting us raise yours.”
“I mean the baby hasn’t even been born yet, but again, anything for a friend,” Midoriya cherished all of your praise. “I still want to be part of the kid’s life though if that isn’t too much to ask.” He’s not asking to co parent or anything, more like an uncle relationship with the kid. He’d visit, celebrate birthdays and holidays, the usual.
“Of course not… In fact I encourage it.”
“Great,” Midoriya began to wave goodbye. “Let me know how Kacchan takes the news!”
“Of course!” You finally left for good. Although Midoriya was anticipating a sprint home, you took your sweet time walking. You would’ve ran, but you’re still recovering from the hospital stay.
Upon returning home, needless to say Katsuki was surprised you came home so soon. This would mark the first time you’ve smiled in weeks. “Did someone hit you upside the head with the happy stick? You were depressed as fuck an hour ago.”
“True,” you shrugged. “I’m still a bit depressed, but I have good news.”
“Where exactly did you go?” You leave for an hour and magically you’re as happy as a unicorn. Anyone would wonder where your happy attitude came from.
“The park. Where else would I go?” Your brows furrowed.
“Just checking.”
“Anyways…” You took Katsuki’s hands into yours. “I ran into Izuku. More, he ran into me. We talked for a while and…” Might as well just come out and say it. “Ochako isn’t ready to start a family yet, so he offered us his baby once it’s born. I already said yes, but I want to make sure you’re fine with it with him being your rival and all. What do you say?”
Katsuki stood in silence. He didn’t even have a single emotion on his face. It just remained blank as a million thoughts went through his head. “Did you ask, or did he offer?” Was the first thing he managed to ask after a moment of silence.
“He brought the subject up on his own,” you admit.
“Why doesn’t Round Face want the kid?” Bakugou remained calm which was surprising.
“She’s not ready to give up her dream of being a hero to become a mom just yet.”
“And if we take the kid, you’ll give up hero work. We’re a damn team-”
“You heard the doctor,” you stared up at him in disapproval. “He basically said my hero days are over.”
“I thought you could bounce back like Deku always fucking did…” Point made Katsuki, point made. That boy does seem to bounce back from injuries like they’re nothing.
“Just this morning you were asking me about adoption again,” you brought up the subject once more. “You weren’t concerned about any of this before now. What makes Izuku’s kid any different? We still get to be parents.”
Another moment of silence. Katsuki never truly did plan this far ahead but he has to accept the reality just like you always told him. “How soon is the kid ours?”
“Oh Katsuki!” You pounced on the boy, wrapping your arms tightly around his neck and quite simple hung there until he supported you. Katsuki helped you down onto your feet, once again, you were beaming with energy. He misses the old you more than anything.
“A few weeks… Ochako is due any time now.”
“Since you finally get your kid, I’m naming it,” Katsuki didn’t hesitate to throw out the rules to this new commitment.
“And what do you plan to name him or her?” Probably something obnoxious knowing he intented to name himself ‘King Explosion Murder’ in highschool until Midnight opposed the idea.
“Katsuo,” Victorious Manly Hero. You’re sure that Kirishima played a part in coming up with that name. “Or Kana,” Powerful.
“Those are perfect.”
The child was born three weeks later. The custody paperwork was filed well beforehand and Izuku is delivering the child today. Easy to say, your excitement wasn’t well contained. You made a full recovery from the last miscarriage and was practically bouncing off the walls. When the doorbell rung, you squealed happily and ran to the newly renovated bedroom to make sure everything was set up while Katsuki answered the door. Izuku stood on the doorstep with the newborn sleeping happily on his chest and shoulder. “About damn time,” Katsuki stepped off to the side and invited his childhood friend in. “She drove me mad talking about the baby.”
“I’m sorry,” Izuku snickered. “I had to get the birth certificate signed over to you two before I could come over,” the boy began to carefully hand the child over to the blonde. “Say hello to your son… Katsuo.”
Katsuki, officially a father now, hesitated before taking the baby into his possession. He didn’t know what to do or say besides stand there and hold the child with care and examine its features. Olive colored hair, a rounded face, pinkish pads on his fingertips. Although the child definitely took after his mother, the fact the child was now his to raise made the moment all that more precious.
“I knew you’d make a great father,” Izuku knew he made the right choice.
“Thank you… Deku,” Katsuki peeled his eyes off the baby.
“You’re actually thanking me?” Izuku found the action foreign. He assumed that since you thanked him a million times before today, Katsuki wouldn’t bother.
“I’d be a jackass if I didn’t,” Katsuki admits. “You really saved our marriage and (Y/n) too… Thank you.”
“I didn’t realize-”
“Just shut up,” Katsuki didn’t want to hear any excuses. “Now I’ll do you a favor… I took time off to look after the kid. When I return to work, I’ll do your workload too. (Y/n) told me you haven’t had the time to marry Round Face, now you’ll have the time.”
“Kacchan…” Izuku never expected his rival to do anything in return. “Thank you…”
