Mirror Reflection: Demon Dabi x Reader
You can technically call this a Dabi x Reader x Todoroki...
The Reader's quirk is also confusing to explain. She can eject someone's soul, even her own soul, from the body. Confused? Go watch Doctor Strange as they refer to this phenomenon as the Astral Form/Dimension.
Also, lots of Inspiration from Blue Exorcist.
Late fall and the pre-winter blast of frigid cold air. Although it was just a few days from the official mark of winter, it sure had everyone assuming that winter was here to move in. The air was frigid, the exhale of breath had the gas turn visible into a smoky grey and waft low within the air like a fog.
While everyone is different when it comes to temperature tolerance; there was a small group of friends that showed the true definition of temperature tolerance. Here we have a boy with messy silver hair, he's quite literally named Silver. He's all bundled up in layers of fur coats and limbs that couldn't stop shivering like a freshly shaven dog. The next boy bad pale blonde hair, Richie was his name. He was the most casual of them all, being he could tolerate the colder temps enough to run around in jeans and a hoodie. The last boy had stark black hair, he went by the name of Kazu, and he was a quirky young man that's for sure. While everyone was seeking warmth, this fairly muscled teenager walked around without his coat. Only jeans and a white tank top while he complained about the heat. In fact, his face was becoming more and more red by the second. It's literally the beginning of winter and he's sweating through his shirt.
Silver playfully punched Kazu on the back, his hand coated in a sheen of sweat upon little contact. "Okay bro... Go home. I think you caught something."
Kazu nodded eagerly and part ways with his friends by running ahead. Wherever he went, his footprints left behind in the shallow snow sizzled and became pools of melted snow. The boy brushed the hair of black from his face, vision growing clouded to an unbearable degree. The sight of an alley became a blessing as he drove right in and collapsed in a fountain of blue flames that left behind nothing but ash. The flames of brilliant blue recollected soon enough, rebirthing of a man with hair as dark as a raven's feathers, skin burnt and scarred over in patches of purple, staples of silver kept his skin together like stitches, silver piercings on his nose, a forked tail, curled horns atop his head and eyes of electric blue as brilliant as his flames.
The man turned around from where he formed, running a scarred hand through his locks and careful to avoid his horns. His eyes couldn't part ways with the pile of flaky ash. "Another body... Gone. That's the third one this week and it's only Thursday..." The man allowed his fingers to entangle the remains of his last host. Still warm... Like Sand.
"Dabi... I suggest you take a break from finding the perfect vessel if only a little while," a man shrouded in shadows appeared within the alley. His onimous yellow eyes were all that remained of this man's body now. Afteral he himself had never successfully possessed another human in all his life long enough to earn a physical identity.
Dabi kicked his ashes, "I'm tired Kurogiri..." The demon admits. "It's bad enough I died in the first place. I don't know how, but I WILL get my second chance. Just... None of the bodies I posses can handle my flames," no sense in revisiting the subject. Every body Dabi had possessed to this very day had faded from existence in a bounty of flames. He's never had a vessel for longer than a few days...
"You ARE the son of Satan Dabi. Your flames aren't supposed to be hidden," Kurogiri announced.
"You think I don't know that?" Dabi snapped and rushed past his shadowy onlooker of a friend. He needed to target his next victim before he's dragged back into the pits of hell. That's the promise he's made with his father at least: to retain a body and the second Dabi goes longer than 24 hours without one then back to hell he goes.
Kurogiri remained in his place, "I've found a possible vessel for you Lord-"
"And who might that be, The milk man?" Dabi spits in disgust. "The last suggestion you made didn't even last me a few hours!"
Kurogiri, as always, ignored Dabi'shateful remarks. "He wields a fire and an ice quirk. He'll keep your flames under control while the ice will retain a normal body temperature. Therefore, no spontaneous combustion..." Dabi lied frozen where he stood. Everything Kurogiri just described to be is the perfect vessel!
"That means my only problem is the kid's will," Dabi smirked, stroking his chin. Resistance can determine whether possession will succeed or not. "Perfect... Where is he Kuro?"
"He live on the UA campus, takes remedial, walks right past this very alley everyday afterwards with an explosive blonde," Kurogiri hummed. "He has hair of snow white and crimson red."
"I see him now," Dabi backed away from the entrance and hid somewhat in the shadow of the neighboring building. "Now get lost... If I do succeed, then I won't see you ever again."
Kurogiri's shadow made a somewhat bowing motion as he disappeared from the realm of the living.
-----
"Where's Shoto?" You hummed only to stare blankly at the barren seat. Normally everyone's in class by five minutes to the bell but for some odd reason Shoto Todoroki had neglected to show up. It was an odd occurrence that's for sure. Nobody ever skips out on class without some sort of viable excuse.
"I think something's up," Midoriya came up to your desk uneasily all to hold out his phone to you upon arrival. "Todoroki asked me what his class schedule was last night. You'd think he'd know his class schedule when it's been the same for almost a year now..." You cocked a brow and took Midoriya's cell phone from off his hands. You skimmed through his many conversations with Todoroki recent and old. The most recent conversation, the one from last night, was very to the point with extremely minimal talking and grammar. While grammar isn't required to text, it's like his whole texting style is different. The old conversations Midoriya's held with Todoroki had him using full words not just abbreviations like You instead of U and Why instead of Y.
You held out the phone for Midoriya to take back. "Either he was in a hurry or he's had a bad day or something I dont know... Whenever I'm ungodly stressed I forget everything."
"Okay but Todoroki should be here. We live on school campus for a reason," Midoriya frowned and put his phone away. He was all so very close to leaving in order to go get his best friend on his own but didn't want to risk getting in trouble himself. You respected both sides of the situation, yet you also couldn't care less as to what happens to Shoto at this rate. He stood you up on your scheduled date last night. It's one thing if you can't make it but to completely flake out without a warning? That's cold on a whole new number of levels.
As the day went on, Todoroki never showed up to class. Now you're getting worried. Maybe something horrible happened to him? Maybe he's dead? You shot him a few texts and even called him. Todoroki did answer the phone call and it was him alright. But it didn't feel like him... Normally Todoroki's speech pattern is slow and mellow but this other Todoroki was quick to the punch and quite loud. Something's off and that's been set in stone.
"Todoroki texted me saying that stuff popped up but he's back in the dorms... You still mad at him?" Midoriya can't handle it when his friends fight. He feels the need that he has the pick sides and then more fights happen but then he'll ultimately just ignore both friends if that's even remotely possible.
"I'm glad he's okay but I still wish he hadn't stood me up last night," you admit with difficulty. When last night's date went wrong, you called up a few friends for support and although Midoriya was the only one to reply and came to the call in need, the night was still great. But you're not gonna let Shoto know of it, he gets jealous too easily.
"Even though the date was ruined, we still had alot of fun," the boy of bushy green hair flashed a smile and you found yourself nodding.
"Which reminds me, if Shoto still isn't feeling it wanna head out again?"
"Um... Can we invite Iida and Uraraka this time? I feel weird hanging out with someone else's girlfriend alone," the boy's face flushed pink. So, he's one of those guys...
"Just do whatevers comfortable Deku," you gave him the confirmation and kept up the walk back home to the dorms. It's true, you haven't been this upset in a long while and a good distraction is all you need. Hopefully Todoroki can at least clue you in as to what came up yesterday but you had your assumptions. Watch it he got tired after his remedial classes and didn't have the energy to return to campus. That boy's almost like Mr. Aizawa when it came to his sleep.
Upon arrival to the dorms, Midoriya took it upon himself to take your backpack up to your room since you both lived on the same floor. Some of your classmates had arrived back here before the two of you and had changed into regular clothes. Uraraka and Iida were going over today's homework on the floor beside the couch in the main dormitory. Might as well do the deed!
"Iida, Uraraka," you called out. "Midoriya and I are going out again, wanna come?"
"Shhh!" Iida shushed you with his index finger pressed to his lips.
"I'd love to but yeah, be quiet," Uraraka whispered harshly.
"Why so quiet out of nowhere?" Your voice hadn't hushed down in the slightest.
"Your boyfriend's sleeping," Uraraka pointed at the couch. Since the back was facing you, you hadn't seen who exactly was sitting upon it. So you approached the couch and there he was, the boy of fire and ice was soundly sleeping all sprawled out upon the cushions.
So there he is... "Yeah well his nap is getting cut short," you stole a pillow from off the armchair and whacked Shoto upside the head with it. Great satisfaction was plastered across your face.
Shoto stirred awake, yawning loudly and sat up after some shameful attempts like a turtle on it's back. "That's Iida... And Ochako and..." Todoroki whispered to himself as he scanned the many faces around the room. His eyes eventually locked on your own. "My darling girlfriend," Todoroki smirked eyeing you from head to toe.
Despite his enthralled expression, yours hadn't began to falter. "You better explain why you stood me up yesterday or else you can kiss my pretty ass goodbye," your crossed your arms awaiting an answer.
"I got heat flashes yesterday," your boyfriend admits realizing his mistake. "I passed out as soon as I went home."
"Heat flashes in winter?" You weren't believing a thing he said. Who gets heat strokes let alone flashes in the winter? Unless he's using his quirk like an internal heater, these shouldn't happen!
About to scold Shoto even further for his reckless ideas, your orbs traced the glinting light that Shoto's nose gave away. He had three silver studded piercings on the right side of his nose. "Okay, since when did you get your nose pierced?" Cause they weren't there yesterday. On top of that, you noticed Shoto's ears were pierced as well with thick silver hoops. Although piercings aren't the least expected thing from Todoroki, it's new that's for sure.
Shoto touched the right side of his nose where the studs were. "This morning... You like?" He smirked.
"I'll admit they suit you..." You sighed.
"A bit edgy of you though," Uraraka points out.
"But still... You can go out and pierce yourself but you can't go on a date with me," you excused yourself for the moment. Excuse yourself before any blood is shed.
"Is she normally this way?" Todoroki asked of his remaining friends.
"She has a point that I cannot disagree with," Iida stood his own ground.
"Look Todoroki," Uraraka crawled over and rested her hand atop Todoroki's. "Oh... You're warm," and she's touching his right hand, the ice half of his body. "We're all going out to ice skate later. Why don't you come along and treat her to a good time? Afteral we normally need to spell it out to you on the dos and don'ts of dating."
Todoroki sighed, giving himself a moment to think. Yeah, I took over this 'Shoto' guy's body and resumed his life where he left it but it's mine now. I like how his life is pretty easy and set up for him but I know nothing about his girlfriend even with Shoto's memories here to help. Is there even any point in keeping her around? She already hates me. I might as well break it off but I will tag along on this date anyways so that I get to know my new peers better. I can't screw this up anyways, I can't change too quickly or else everyone will know I possessed this guy and this body is too perfect for me to give up.
That's how Demon Prince Dabi, or should I now say Shoto Todoroki, decided to go along with this date tonight. It was the perfect opportunity to get into Shoto's character better. Besides, this life of his is perfect! A high end school, Pro Hero father, a following of friends AND a girlfriend. If a girlfriend is quite literally handed to him you might as well take it!
"I'll make it up to her..." Shoto admits with reluctance.
"We wish you all the luck!" Iida gave the boy two big thumbs up and you came back into the room after taking a lap around the dormitory outside. Your cheeks were flush red from the cold.
"Hey uh... (Y/n)," Uraraka ran over and gave you a hug for warmth. "Todoroki's coming with us tonight."
"Yeah whatever just keep me warm," you refused to let the brunette out from your embrace. Her warmth flooded into your body to chase the cold away.
"Alright guys I'm ready!" Midoriya came in all prepped for the outdoors in a thick turquoise puffer coat, long red knitted scarf and matching mittens. The boy looked all precious like a child. "I also grabbed you one of my jackets (Y/n) since I didn't see one in your room," the boy held out one of his thickest jackets on hand, a blue fur lined jacket.
"Hey now," Shoto stood up and slowly stepped towards Midoriya. The walk was almost taunting, causing Midoriya to step away shyly like a cowering dog and flinched to Shoto's hand slamming down upon his shoulder. "Midoriya... (Y/n)'s my girlfriend. I got her covered," Shoto took back his hand and shed himself of the black coat he wore and offered it to you.
You blinked in shock and took it from his hands hestiantly. Todoroki's never offered you his coat before but the coat was warm to the touch, and you found yourself putting it on without a thought. It was like wrapping yourself in a blanket right out of the dryer.
"See... Got her covered," Shoto grinned in satisfaction.
"You're acting weird today..." Midoriya escorted himself outside. Thankfully, you're not the only one who's caught onto Todoroki's change in personality.
"That's not the first time I've heard that," Shoto rolled his eyes and threw on the coat Midoriya had originally brought out for you. No sense in letting the gesture go to waste.
"Look uh... You have been acting... Different," You spoke up. While Midoriya isn't wrong, the second he's grown uncomfortable it's a warning sign.
"But isn't different good?" Shoto suggested all to hide his real identity.
"Its a good step up don't get me wrong! I like how you're more outgoing It's just alot to take in all at once and I think we can all agree," you turned to Iida and Uraraka and they both were nodding their heads in agreement. "See, so don't let it get to ya," you reassured.
"Be more mellow... Got it," Shoto made a mental note... Verbally.
"Let's go," you suggested with everyone followed to you out from the class dormitory.
So I possessed the body of a boring teenager with VERY observant friends. Could be worst... Dabi again, had to make his sacrifices. Once he gets the hang of everything that's when he can start changing things up without drawing too much attention. Like most highschool girlfriends don't last forever and friends come and go. It all takes patience.
The trip over to the local ice rink was pretty quiet on Dabi's end thanks to keeping himself mentally pre-occupied. He took this time to study Todoroki's memories more in depth in order to get a feel for the more important memories and relationships he may encounter later on. Being quiet was the most 'in character' thing Shoto has done all day. While the new image is definitely different yet pleasing, you're beginning to wonder if Shoto's changing his image so drastically in order to stand out or if someone said something. Either way, you hope he gets things under control.
Upon arrival, Iida took it upon himself to get everyone ice skates. He's so antsy to step on the ice after nine months of warm weather. People say skating is like dancing on air, letting momentum rocket you forward. You've been dying to couple skate for months now, plus, you've been planning to play match maker too. Uraraka needs a boyfriend and it'll be one of the three guys that came along to the rink today! Except Shoto... He's your man.
When everyone prepped themselves for the ice, they went their own separate ways. Iida made skating look like child's play since he looked like a professional doing twirls and all. Midoriya tried to mimic the four eyed wonder and slipped, giving himself a bloody nose upon a faceplant. Uraraka was very wobbly and has been latching onto Iida nearly the whole time. Well, no sense in playing matchmaker anymore! You found yourself laughing at times whenever someone fell. That may sound rude, but it couldn't be helped at times. Whenever Uraraka fell you laughed just to joke around while other times people were knocking into others like bowling pins in a lane.
One thing was missing, Shoto. Of everything that's happened out here so far, you're shocked Shoto wasnt a part of any of it. Turns out, he hasn't even touched the ice yet. You could see his dual tone hair from behind the ice separator wall. You kicked back from the ice, propelling yourself towards the wall. Your body slumped over it with care. "Any reason you aren't out here having fun?" You sang out.
Your boyfriend looked down at the blades beneath his feet then back to you. He's ashamed. "I've never skate before. This'll be a problem..." Internally, Dabi was freaking out. If this boy has an ice quirk, he's sure as hell that Todoroki's skate before today.
"Then I'll guide you," you offered.
"I'm a man I don't need he...lp," Dabi bit his tongue. No... I'm technically not a man anymore. I'm like six years younger than I usually am. "Forget me... I'll take the help," Dabi accepts your offer to help him out and highly appreciates your hospitality the most since taking on this new human identity. Something about breaking down and accepting help felt like an arrow to the heart of his pride but even the Demon Prince himself couldn't deny the fact he needed it right about now. To go from a burning hell to a frozen one was like night and day.
"Step one... Get on the ice. Now get up," you guide him through the process. Although wobbly, Shoto pushed himself up to stand from the bench and walked over to the entrance like a girl in heels: nearly tripping with half shattered ankles. The second the silvet blade touched the ice, he slipped. Shoto's entire body was engulfed in blue flames from the shock. The flurry had cleared up quickly.
Luckily you were nearby and pulled him back up to his feet, but you had questions of your own. "Since when were your flames blue?" You asked.
"I'm not sure actually..." Shoto began to sweat. He began to over-exaggerate his confusion by staring with great intensity into his pale hands.
"Whatever," your elbow nudged the boy. "Just hook your arm with mine and kick yourself whenever I kick okay?" Shoto nods and hooked his left arm with your right. You chose the left side cause it's his warm side and it's butt-ass cold out here! Plus, can't go wrong with snuggles.
You pushed off with your right leg, Shoto followed the lead with his kick and honestly he didn't need the lesson cause he was a natural by the fifth kick. With Shoto more than used to the feeling of ice, he'd skate ahead, refusing to let go of your hand and would spin you about here and there. The icy wind throwing your hair around and the momentum whipping you about!
I've never had this much fun! I'm normally too busy searching for vessels to ever think about it. I don't ever want to lose this body...
You both were laughing in unison out of pure joy. The spinning was coming to a stop and just as Shoto tugged on your hand to follow, Uraraka pushed the two of you over with a devilish snicker. The two of you landed on top of each other, still laughing without a care in the world. "So you say that I'm different?" Shoto brought up the subject. A warm hand brushing the stray hairs from out of your face.
"I love this new you," you smiled back locking your gaze with his brilliant blue eyes. Something didn't feel right, and you had to do a double-take. On his white half his eye was an electric blue, on his red half his eye was blue, just like his icy side. Because Shoto has two different halves of the body, one belonged to his mother the other to his father, nothing matched. His ice half should have an ice grey colored eye...
"Where's MY Shoto?" You shoved the look alike away.
"She caught on..." Dabi hissed and struggled to his feet. "What do you mean (Y/n) I've always been Sho-"
You shoved him down again, creating a scene in the middle of the rink. "No wonder why you've been acting different! You're not Shoto Todoroki," your fingertips began emanating a greenish static electricity. "Who are you?"
Dabi, shedding the name of Shoto for good since his identity had been had, allowed the fire half of this mortal vessel to be engulfed in those brilliant blue flames that's became a part of his identity. "Better watch yourself before you wreak yourself," Dabi smirked.
You almost wretched as that smirk contorted Shoto's face as it never belonged there in the first place. "I suggest the same to you..." You skated towards Shoto's possessed being, held out your hand and braced yourself to fight a flurry of dancing blue flames.
Witnessing how the situation grew violent quickly, everyone on the rink and nearby ran for safety. You had to dodge the many balls of blue fire Dabi had thrown at you relentlessly until you could get close enough to touch his chest. Five fingers, a wide expanse of skin and bones to tag. What Dabi didn't care to keep in mind was that the ice beneath him had melted and his balance had worn down to very little. His ankle buckled at the slightest movement, allowing you to tag his chest and a faint almost ghostly form ejected from Shoto's backside and landed on the ice while Shoto collapsed before you. You made sure to catch him, his weight overbearing, but you managed and lied him on the mirrored ice.
You would tend to Todoroki's injuries, let alone check if he was even conscious, but this dark entity that you've eject from his body called for more concern. If that was Shoto's soul, the form wouldn't be recollecting into a whole being let alone... One with a long forked tail, black hair, scarred skin and curled horns where his ears should be.
The being continued to lie in the ice, he wasn't injured and he wasn't unconscious, it was mentally frozen... Stunned.
"Now who are you?" You kicked the man in the leg. He hadn't even flinched. "Hey!" You snapped kneeling down. "Who are you and what did you want with-"
The being's hand found your throat and closed your pipes with ease. "Well Sweetheart... The name's Dabi, Son of Satan, ever heard of me?" Dabi's demonic tail flickered behind him. "You just cost me the perfect vessel, well not really... I can posses him any time I like. Because you're causing me more trouble than I need well..." The demon adjusted the placement of his hand to grasp your jaw. He kept a firm hold to prevent an escape and ran another finger along your jawline. "I think I'll posses you just so that I'd have the pleasure of burning you from the inside out until you're nothing but ash... And to say I was beginning to fall for a human..." You could see the pain within Dabi's orbs. He doesn't want to murder for a change. Such an action came natural to a species as himaelf.
"If you'll leave Shoto alone...Then I'm yours," you forfeited yourself to the demon in black.
"You'd forfeit your body for me?" Dabi clicked his tongue. "That's the funniest thing I've seen anyone do and I'm a demon who thinks he can live a NORMAL life as a human which is a rare occurrence as it is."
"You deserve better," you hadn't moved a muscle beside your mouth that frowned to show the demon pity. "Even though you were pretending to be my friend Shoto and we've known each other for so little... It was you who showed me a good time, showed me that you were capable of happiness, love and affection."
"Your point is?"
"Clearly you'd make a great person if you were human or not," you tried to hold Dabi's hand but he pulled away suddenly with his back to you.
"You're the first person to... To accept me in my true form."
"All you want is acceptance. What's wrong with that?"
"Goodbye..." Dabi began to cloak himself in flames. "I'll search for someone else that my flames won't reject. When that happens I want to make this all up for you. You're different..." And Dabi faded from existence without a trace.
Shoto began to groan loudly as he came to. You had to push Dabi out from your thoughts. "Shoto..." You embraced him with everything you had.
"What happened? Why does my face hurt," his fingers pressed to the silver studs that impaled the outerskin of his nose.
"Those are piercings... Somebody borrowed your body for a while. But I'm glad you're back."
"Who borrowed my body?" Shoto despised the pain that itched his nose and ears.
"A good man named Dabi..."
One Month Later...
"Are you sure you aren't that demon anymore?" Midoriya and Uraraka mimicked each other with puffed out cheeks and upside down smiles before Todoroki.
He sort of just stood there in confusion, "excuse me?"
"Why haven't you taken out those piercings?" Uraraka couldn't stand the sight of those silver holes that sat on his nose.
"I've grown to like the look," Shoto fought his end of the argument. Ever since Dabi had part ways, Todoroki had grown strangely sentimental to the small changes the demon made to his life. He's not as mellow as he used to be and grown to get more into conversations and activities although he does like his daily nap. The piercings however were the first things to go, that was until Todoroki removed them and realized he'd rather have jewelry instead of large permanent holes in his face and ears since he decided too late to remove them. One thing you'd like to point out is that your relationship with him couldn't be any healthier!
"I can agree I like the look," you pecked Shoto on the cheek before stepping away. "I'm going for a walk if anyone wants to come."
"I'd rather nap," Todoroki yawned.
"Bye girl!" Uraraka waved you off.
You went around school campus before heading out towards the city. Everything was peaceful. It was all paused by the warm tap to your shoulder. On instinct, your head snapped in the direction of the the interaction.0 A man with deep crimson hair came out from behind you to face you head on and smile gently. He even held out his arms expecting you to guess who he was. "Do I know you?" You finally asked. Nothing about him sparked an answer.
"Look a little deeper Sweetheart," The man began to smirk and his eyes flashed awake with this electric mystifying blue aura.
"Dabi..." You found yourself smiling.
"Actually," Dabi scratched at the back of his neck. "Apparently this guy's name is Touya."
"Touya... Dabi... Either way, I'm glad we could meet again. I like this look, it suits your better nature."
