Mimic: Tokoyami x Reader
Requested te4_p4rty by who found the Monty Python reference in my book Ignition: Bakugou x Reader.
This request actually big time sparked my interest since it actually is about one of my real life quirks. For some odd reason, I am a touchy feely person, if something has an odd texture visible to the eye, I must pet it. Same goes towards hair, I tend to pet people's hair. If you think I'm weird then I won't get offended. We all have our quirks.
"Whoa your hair is as hard as your body!" You fumbled around with Kirishima's crimson hair. The strands were as hard as cement, stuck together and showed no signs of falling through anytime soon. Kirishima would say something but he couldn't help but to snicker as Ashido and Uraraka joined in on the action getting a feel of his hair as well. What made you randomly pet him out of nowhere? Oh right... Whenever you pass by the couch, be it for something as simple as retrieving something from the fridge or leaving the dormitory all together, you ruffle the hair of whoever so happens to be sitting on the couch in the dormitory lounge. As time went on, some individuals have learned to avoid sitting on the couch all together to avoid unnecessary invasions of personal space.
Your friends seemed to get a kick out of your quirky behavior, it was a habit of yours you cannot shake, be it you've gained the habit from your loving family at home. A ruffle of your hair was playful and affectionate. At times when nobody so happens to be sitting on the couch at your time of passing, someone would step up for a gratuitous ruffle on the head like a dog towards their owner and it kept your day going on the right path.
Once you've had enough Kirishima petting, you bid farewell and entered your dwelling. Some more of his friends stepped up your challenge and had to pet Kirishima's spiky head of rock as well. Moments later, just about everyone in class has given Kirishima a doggy head scratch and returned to their business.
"I never knew petting someone's hair would be so... Exciting!!!" Ashido squealed, throwing her pink hands up within the air eager to pet some more.
"I honestly want to pet Deku," Uraraka giggled pressing a hand to her lips. Of course she wants a piece of her crush, logic. This is why everyone is aware of your crush Miss Chubby Cheeks.
A blonde threw himself over the back on the couch, snapping his fingers. "Y'know, I've always wondered the same, would his hair be poofy and soft or stringy like grass?" Kaminari pointed out, never expecting he'd actually take part in the girl's conversation at all. Turns out just about everyone had this pet quirk in common.
Todoroki, the boy with half and half hair of red and white, lifted his head from a novel listening to his classmates marvel about hair. "Neither," he blankly spoke, giving his attention back onto a chapter book lied open upon his cross legged lap.
"Fine, what about Bakugou?" Ashido asked, biting her lip, just as she spoke the explosive blonde himself trudged into the room taking care of the trash he's collected in his room over the past week in a white rubbery trash bag. Blonde hair, a frenzy of blonde spikes that nobody has been able to tame. The girls would have the time of their lives trying to dress up his hair.
"Nothing to get excited about," Kaminari awkwardly scratched his chin glancing in the opposite direction of the girls. "His quirk is sweat based, Bakugou's hair is greasier than my cooking," Bakugou flinched hearing that not so discreet insult flood out of his friend's mouth, burning holes into his being with red hot crimson eyes..
"GROSS!!!" The girls cried.
"That's it!" Bakugou stomped over, snatching Kaminari by his collar. "Your ass will be dead by the time I'm done with ya," Kaminari clung onto the back of the couch as Bakugou began dragging him away against his will.
The entire couch skids backwards, inch by inch, the fabric popping and breaking apart from where he clung. "Fuck no! Kirishima save me," Kaminari cried out desperately.
"Even I know better than to insult him like that. You're on your own bro."
"Okay back on track!" Uraraka roped everyone back in, her hands in a frenzy. "Anybody else?"
"I've pet everyone except Tokoyami, Mineta, and Koda," you popped back into the room carrying a small white plastic bag filled with what seemed to be trash. Looks like you and Bakugou were doing trash patrol together.
"So you've successfully pet Bakugou and didn't die?" Ashido got within centimeters of your face, black eyes hungry for answers.
You frowned with disgust, nodding justly. "I had to wash my hands with bleach just to get rid of the grease..." On that day, Bakugou had fallen asleep on the couch and you took advantage of the opening and regret doing so. Explosive sweat quirk or not, his hair is disgusting and nothing would make you touch it ever again.
"Gross Kaminari wasn't joking!!!" Ashido's view on Bakugou was shattered.
"Okay we've already established that," Kirishima pats the pink girl on the back to help sooth her upset stomach. "But Koda doesn't have hair, is that why you haven't pet it?"
"Exactly," you threw yourself over the back of the couch and sat between Ashido and Uraraka. "And no way in hell am I petting Mineta... Disgusting filth..."
"Then go on ahead to Tokoyami's room and pet him," Uraraka suggested.
"I'm actually scared to death of what may be going on in there... So I'll pass," satanic rituals, summoning demons, who knows, maybe Tokoyami is quirkless and Dark Shadow is actually his familiar willing to do the bird's evil bidding. Tokoyami's mysterious fixation on the darkness has made himself a place in your head, tearing up the place with shadowy claws and a stare riddled with death.
"Tokoyami is a sweetheart don't be shy," Uraraka clapped her hands together wearing an adorable ear to ear smile. "I've worked with him in the festival remember? Dark Shadow is nothing more than a supportive friend or clingy cat outside of battle," thinking back one semester ago, the brunette did in fact team up with the bird of darkness, even caught glimpse of her petting his familiar at one point over the head and he seemed to enjoy it.
You stood up from the couch with determination. "Forget Tokoyami I want to pet Dark Shadow!"
"Go get em girl!" Ashido jumped up with you, tossing you by your shoulders in the direction of the boy's dorms. You ran all the way to the door with a name plaque in the name of a bat baring Tokoyami's name in white lettering. An eager knock on the door, and it had opened within the second with Dark Shadow poking his dusty head of black smoke into the hallway. The being of darkness smiled in your presence, waving his clawed hand as a nice gesture.
You waved back in return. "Uraraka wasn't joking," You awed, reaching out and Dark Shadow met you halfway, closing his full moon eyes and yourself to stroke his head of squishy static darkness, it was like petting a cat after it had a day of fun in fresh laundry with hair standing on end.
"Can I help you?" Tokoyami asked from behind the door, opening it up. His shadow took to your side, greatly enjoying your affection, just like Uraraka had described the being.
"As weird as this may sound," you snickered at yourself. "But can I pet you real quick? I've pet just about everyone in our class except for you. It'll make my day!"
"A sense of accomplishment huh?" Tokoyami hummed, angling his beak upwards with some help of his human hand. "I've actually been awaiting the day you'd come to me, although I don't understand why everyone else enjoys to be treated like a pet. But it's not like you're hurting anyone," news to you, all you had to do was simply ask Tokoyami for some time and he would've gladly done so.
"Awe thank you," you hummed. Tokoyami bowed his head allowing you access to his head of raven feathers. You brushed your hand over his hair for a test touch, expecting the leather feel of feathers to glide across your smooth skin except you received an entirely different texture. "So weird..." You finally dove your hands deeper into his head of black, thick coarse strands that were tightly intertwined with one another. "You have hair?" You asked in an airy tone, astonished with your discovery.
"Why wouldn't I?" Tokoyami tuts, Dark Shadow floats within the air, fixing up his master's hair to better match his own look.
"All this time I thought those were feathers!"
"I can see where you came from," Tokoyami ran a hand through his own hair, never has he actually thought about his hair as feathers, let alone a possibility as such even though he has the head and face of a night raven.
"I find it really cool that you and Dark Shadow match each other, it's like whatever I do to your hair his appearance changes, see," you used on hand and ruffled up one side of Tokoyami's hair, Dark Shadow's appearance changed accordingly like a mirror. Dark Shadow squaked, a near tear to his ghostly moon eyes and he jutted forwards fixing up his Master's hair in a hurry, and the shadow calmed down, giving you bird like glares.
"I had no clue Dark Shadow mimics my appearance," Tokoyami pointed out with a faint sense of surprise in his own deep monotone voice. "Then again this thing is an attention hog all the time, I don't pay attention to half of the things it does." Just as Tokoyami explained his view on the familiar, he flew up to you, nuzzling himself into your cheeks.
"Leave no dog unpet," you giggled giving the shadow a hug. "Actually I'm unsure if you're a bird or a cat or whatever."
"Nothing more than his shadow..." Dark shadow whispered, you flinched in response.
"He talks... Not very often but he talks," Tokoyami cleared the air, soothing your confusion. "However you made the mistake of giving Dark Shadow all that attention, he's not gonna leave you alone."
"I'm fine with that," you grinned. "I'm beginning to really like you both anyways, even if I did just come here for a favor." Behind Dark Shadow's back, you ruffled Tokoyami's hair one more time. Shadow cried out in irritation, going crazy mad on his Master's hair. Tokoyami and yourself snickered, teasing his familiar was fun to say the least.
