Memories of Flames: Shinsou x Reader
Requested by SnowyEgg who found the Kingdom Hearts/Axel Quote Reference in my book Ignition: Bakugou x Reader
There's two references in here, good luck!!!
One of two references found:
Hunter x Hunter Reference found
Guess I'll hold your hand through finding the last reference. (Its been hidden for more than 6 months and now I'm desperate)
-The reference is this entire oneshot.
-The Reader of this Oneshot has the backstory of an anime character.
-The 'Reader's' parents died in a fire on Christmas
-The 'Reader' is dedicated to finding out who killed her parents and due to such she refuses to be social or make friendships
-The Housekeeper was the key to figuring out who killed her parents
Good luck in figuring out which anime I referenced.
Also... Please quit saying Ciel Phantomhive. His family wasn't murdered on Christmas but instead on Dec, 14th.
It was Christmas Eve, and the holiday was so merry, so loving on a quiet cheerful night of blanketed white and frosty cold. Relatives came home to visit grandchildren, gifts were thrown about, and sweets were consumed into tiny little bellies. The perfect most holy night of the year for all but... You.
Just because it's Christmas, it wasn't on the minds of criminals and villains to take just one night off from crime. In fact, it was the best night of the year to commit one. And that's when one holy night went down in a cascade of hellish flame...
Shinsou Hitoshi never did see his best friend that night, the night two pro heroes died leaving their four year old daughter orphaned after an act of arsen. You both were so young, and how quickly one little girl fled from his memory led him to believe you were nothing but a figment of his imagination. However, your memory followed him into his teen years and well, Shinsou began to wallow away in guilt. You are real, you were his friend, and would you still be his friend if only he would've gotten to your home sooner that night? Shinsou wanted to invite your entire family over for dinner, if only his parents agreed, THAT could've spared your parents from death and your eyes from witnessing it all...
12 Years Later...
"Class got out later than expected..." You grumbled, running around your dorm left and right all to shove one object after another within you coat pockets. "Keys, wallet... Phone! Phone! Where's my phone!? I'm running out of time!" You smashed the home button on your cellular device to see that it was already half past five. "Crap! Forget the phone I need to-" You paused, staring at your hand with a glare. "Of course only an idiot like me would rip apart the room for my phone when I had it all along..." Therefore you finally left your room.
Long story short, one break in schedule and you're a mess for who knows how long. Normally for the rest of the night.
It was a matter of time before another obstacle blocked your path, and that something was a spunky brunette bounding out of her room with the chubbiest of cheeks. "(Y/n) we should do something tonight!"
"Can you please get out of my way? I'm busy Uraraka," you shoved her to the side and continued on.
She followed, "but where are you going!? Do you ever hang out with anyone?"
"I don't have the time anymore, bye!" To avoid more bumps in the road you found yourself running, running and running from the inside to the out. You peered down at your phone again, 5:38pm. "Only twenty minutes until the nursing home closes- Ouch!" On the ground and head searing in pain. Distracted driving leads to accidents, who's ever heard of distracted walking? You're a victim and ashamed...
"Watch where you're walking!" The man you bumped into snapped from the ground. He mirrored you by rubbing his forehead. "Where the hell are you going anyways? UA curfew is in a half an hour."
Brilliant point, not like you cared though. "Nursing home," you whined. "My old housekeeper thinks she found a lead as to who killed my parents-"
"Wait is that you, (Y/n)?" The boy's heart attacked his chest like a mallet to a tympani. Your eyes, your hair, you look just the way you did at four years of age with maturity to aid in your appearance today.
In response to your name, you picked up your head locking eyes with this teenage boy of soulful lavender orbs. "I'm sorry but... Do I know you?" And his heart shattered.
Shinsou picked himself up from the ground, offering you a hand. "Don't you remember me? I'm Shinsou Hitoshi. We were practically raised together since birth until your parents... Died in a house fire," just remembering that night brought pain upon you both. You both lost mountains that night. He lost a friend, you lost just about everything.
"Yes... I remember now," you took Shinsou's hand in hesitation. You only remember him in bits and pieces. Everything before Christmas Eve of your fourth year is hazy at best. "I'm assuming you came to UA to become the hero you always wanted to be?"
"Not exactly," Shinsou sighed. "What about you? I had no idea you had a quirk let alone you're trying to figure out your parent's murderer. "
"That's because I was four Shinsou," you began to straighten out your clothes. "Most quirks don't come in until you're four or five and in my case I was five. Now I really need to go-"
"(Y/n) I really want to catch up," Shinsou caught you by your wrist. He already made the mistake of never seeking you out earlier, he isn't going to let you go again.
"Now isnt the time Shinsou," you pulled your arm back, but his hold never faltered.
"I grew up thinking you were an imaginary friend. I'm not wasting anymore time."
"Fine then we're both going to the nursing home," you spun around with a huff.
"Fine by me."
-----
"I'm nowhere closer to figuring out who murdered my parents..."
"Atleast we can rule out your housekeeper-"
"Shinsou!" You growled, pressing hands to both sides of your head. "I never suspected her. All she did was prove that she took me to see Santa on Christmas Eve while my parents were doing hero work. I'm NOWHERE closer to figuring out who murdered them..." What a waste of time, and now the two of you will have to suffer the consequences of breaking the school's curfew with nothing new to add to your case.
"I'm sorry," Shinsou understood where your stress was coming from but felt it was overall unnecessary. "Okay, I'm sorry but is this all you ever do, hunting down the villain who did this? You... You have no personality."
"I've been told this more than a million times before," you tut. Shinsou got a glimpse of the most fake smile in existence and it came from his childhood friend.
"There's more to life than revenge (Y/n)."
"Yeah, I know, and I didn't need you to tell me that."
"Can you please just open up? I want to be your friend again!" Shinsou began to weigh the pros and cons of using his quirk in this situation. All he wants is the truth behind your determination now. Without the truth, nobody can reach you and you're just about to go past the point of no return. This 'hobby' of yours is unhealthy.
"I don't know," you smacked your hip. "I'll have to think about it."
"Are you seriously debating between having a friend or not?"
"I haven't been able to trust people since we broke apart Shinsou. I just don't want to open up my heart to get broken again..." And the truth came out. It took everything you had to admit so.
"Try for me please," Shinsou outstretched his arms wide. "A hug for old times sake?" A hug was one of few things that Shinsou could remember about you vividly as a child. You had extremely bad abandonment issues, so you'd always hug Shinsou goodbye the tightest your little arms could before returning home each and every night. The boy of purple can imagine your tight embrace now around his arms and chest.
"Old times," although the hug wasn't sparking your interest, a faint warmth to flutter about your chest and stomach kept the motivation to hold out your arms. Shinsou had to initiate, wrapping his arms around you while your own gradually snaked around his backside and a head to rest upon his shoulder.
This familiar warmth had your body melting into his own. "I can't remember the last time I hugged anyone..." You sighed, unable to let go of the moment.
"Well..." The hug tightened for a second, just to end all together. Shinsou witnessed your eyes go from dull to glossy in just mere seconds. You didn't want to admit just how much you missed him. "I'll be around (Y/n)."
"You better promise," you held out your pinkie. Shinsou tilted his head, then grins and hooked his finger with yours.
"Pinkie promise made," you both spoke in unison. "Whoever breaks this promise has to swallow a thousand needles," a minor adjustment, and your thumbs were pressed together. "Sealed with a kiss!" You both laughed together. Memories sure can be bittersweet.
"Can't believe I still remember our secret promise," Shinsou took his hand back. "I promise to see you again (Y/n). Hopefully tomorrow."
"Me too," It was departing that brought you more sorrow. So nice of him to walk you back to your dormitory, sleep sure sounds nice just about now.
"Since when have you and Shinsou been dating?" Midoriya got all up in your face upon return home.
You were startled to say the least. "W-we aren't," you assured. "We grew up until my parents died and I got adopted. Haven't seen him in years okay?"
"You know you can't change Midoriya's mind now right?" Iida popped into the picture.
"He's a shipper... Or whatever you call it," Todoroki wasn't very sure on his end what exactly a shipper was but he rolled with the punches.
"Got the hint," you smiled faintly all to walk away to your dorm in particular and throw yourself atop the bed. "He's right... I need more friends," a pillow ended up in your embrace to recreate the warmth you sought. "I miss mom and dad so much, but why do I remember Shinsou more than I do them? Maybe... He's all I need to feel right again..."
