Izuku Midoriya was a regular old boy. All of his friends were extraordinary in some way be it a crazy power, pet or profession. Iida was a knight, Uraraka practices witchcraft, the Prince was half demon, even his childhood friend was considered a dragon rider. Which all leads us to how ordinary Midoriya was. He didn't have any powers and the most exciting thing he owns was a healthy white horse and his profession... Delivery boy. He runs around from house to house, shop to shop, kingdom to kingdom delivering goods and services all. While he doesn't mind doing deliveries and all to keep his family afloat. In fact, he looks forward to what the next day holds in store. It's just that, today was especially long and rather boring compared to all the others. It was a rarity for Midoriya to somehow not get sidetracked when he's on the clock. Along his many journeys something always derails his train of thought be it the littlest things like helping a fallen bird back into its nest or running into a plethora of his friends. Today must've been one of those days then. A nice easy delivery day.
Even with today being smooth sailing, it's still exhausting to say the least. More than ten deliveries and not a moment to breathe. Luckily, their latest package in particular was designated to go to the next kingdom over. Lucky how? Yeah it's a long distance kingdom to kingdom but the countryside was always a welcoming sight. Not as much as the beautiful lake Midoriya and his loyal steed stumbled upon. They both practically were thinking the same thing the second their eyes lied upon that crystalline liquid beauty. "Alright Hokori," the boy hops off his silver horse. She nodded her head in excitement to the sweet call of her name as she earned a light congratulatory pat to her behind. "Rest up girl, we have just one more delivery to make," Midoriya watched as his strong girl trotted happily up to the lake's edge and lapped up the water. Without Hokori, life for Izuku and his mother would be much more harsh. Midoriya's just lucky that his childhood friend... Rival? Okay, he isn't sure what to call Kacchan, but he's just lucky that Kacchan found a new steed a while back. That angry boy gave Midoriya Hokori, named after Kacchan's overbearing pride, since he'd rather conquer the skies atop a dragon. Who wouldn't want to fly? Midoriya too imagined himself riding a beautiful creature like Kirishima at the time but he's grateful for what he has.
Speaking of Kirishima, memories are strong aren't they? They can make someone cry on a whim, flood your heart with happiness and sometimes scar for life. For Midoriya, his eyes formed the ghostly image of a towering reptile's red scaly face in the translucent lake. That 'memory' was more than just a figment of his imagination as Hokori suddenly rears back from the lake startled beyond her wits. Midoriya wasted no time in capturing his steed and tugged on her reins desperately! "Calm down girl!" Midoriya cooed but she kept flailing! That's when Midoriya looked behind himself and there he was, the red terror of the skies. "K-Kacchan!!!" Midoriya gasped. But Kacchan was nowhere in sight. Kacchan and Kirishima aren't ever separated and boy does Kirishima look angry with his teeth all flared and slitted eyes narrowing in on them. Something wasn't right... Kirishima's the most gentle dragon he's ever met.
Kirishima reared back before slamming himself back down onto the ground and letting out an ear splitting roar. Hokori ran away the fastest she could leaving her owner behind with the beast. Kirishima's echoing voice made Midoriya's ears bleed, brain rattle against his skull and bones shaking violently. Until... He blacked out hearing the most faintest chant... A woman's voice backed behind boundless bravery.
Midoriya stirred awake hours later and with a skull splitting headache to top it all off. He fought with himself all to simply open up his eyes. With eyelids as heavy as lead, they peeled themself open to a sight that he couldn't recognize to save his life. A dark room only lit by the flickering roar of flames to a fireplace that obediently caressed a large black steel cauldron that hung above. Jars, little and large, cluttered the room from floor to ceiling filled with the most mysterious contents: the fur of a werewolf, vampire fangs and the most oddest of them all being the sweat of a ghost. Upon further inspection, he found a large leatherbound book. It was laying atop a steel podium before the bed he lied upon. The cursive inscription of the book had the boy realize that it's owner was a witch. A witch? Midoriya thought. "I thought Uraraka was one of the last witches in existence?" Midoriya wanted to read the book past it's title, but his head hurt too much to even try. Instead, he thought it'd be a good idea to find the witch who saved him from Kirishima and escort himself out before he'd cause more trouble than he's worth.
Midoriya gathered up all his strength all to push off the bed to his wobbly feet. He sidestepped around the podium, trudging past the cauldron. He noted how badly the contents of said cauldron wretched of onion and... Tomatoes? The savory mix of carefully chosen vegetables all came together to make this delectable scent that had Midoriya's stomach rumble.
The door whipped open. "Don't eat that!" A girl screamed.
"Ah!" Midoriya jolted back. "W-w-w-why!?" He squealed.
"Unless you want to become a dragon, don't. Drink. It," she made herself clear as she stomped over to the cauldron. The girl was quick to get rid of any and all eating utensils in her line of sight. With a snap of her fingers, a long black staff appeared out of thin air into her agile hands as she proceeded to aggressively stir the contents.
Midoriya, oddly comfortable in the girl's presence stood idly by all to admire the witch at work. She definitely owned her title as a witch for her wardrobe couldn't be mistaken as another. She wore a black velvet dress that complemented her body nicely and a large witch's hat to match. It had a (f/c) lace at the base of the hat atop the brim with a happy face stitched onto the hat. If you look closely enough, you could tell that her hat was sentient as it's face morphed and contorted with a variety of emotions. She must be the witch... "Thank you," Midoriya nearly mumbled as he couldn't pull his eyes from the cauldron. "You saved me from that dragon."
"Don't thank me," the witch stopped stirring the cauldron with a sigh. "It's my fault that Kiri attacked you in the first place."
"You know Kirishima?" Midoriya blinked. And here Kacchan claimed that the last person he wanted to mess around with was a witch yet she knows Kirishima by name.
The witch stepped off to one side of her cauldron and used her staff to motion towards a male sleeping atop a large roughed up mattress atop the floor. He was a hybrid of sorts... A human boy with dragon characteristics. Patches of red scales, sharp horns, dragon wings and a lengthy tail that was as long as his own body. This must be Kirishima... But he isn't a dragon anymore? "Kirishima's mine after all," the girl claimed after some time.
"H-huh?!" The boy stuttered in shock.
"Won him off an angry blonde about a week ago," the girl announces all smug like as she tapped her cheek. "Kiri attacked you because I tried to shrink him down to travel size and the potion backfired," the girl could only shrug at a time like this. What else could she really do? "Before you say anything, Kiri's a sweet dragon don't get me wrong. Just... I just can't feed a stomach as big as his and I definitely prefer to get around by broom.
"Understandable," Midoriya too shrugged with the girl. "But..." Midoriya found himself kneeling down to feel Kirishima's scaly forehead to make sure he's alright. "Kirishima's a human now?"
"It was the only spell I could think of at the time," the girl chuckled. Either turn him into a human or a frog. Pick your poison. "Anyways... You're safe, I got my dragon back," she quickly ran to the window and opened it up. Within a stable was Midoriya's horse happily communicating with a- a unicorn!? Why do all witches have cool pets!? "I just went through the trouble of getting your horse back. You're free to leave!" And here she was trying to kick him out as soon as possible.
"But..." Midoriya frowned.
"But what?" She growled.
"You saved me... I want to repay my debt."
"NO!" She stomped over and practically shoved Midoriya at the door. "I already said that everything's my fault. Go home!"
"Can I help you with anything?" Midoriya completely ignored the girl as he wedged himself within the doorframe to avoid becoming kicked out. When she gave in, he made quick work to carefully examine the room. Dusty... Very dusty and well... Spiders practically owned the place. "I can reorganize, clean, I can cook really well or I can help you with Kirishima?" Silence. While all the free labor sounded good, she hates company. "Please say something..."
"Are you normally this persistent?" She slumped forward. Because Kirishima's already an attention hog as it is...
Midoriya nods his head, "yes."
"Fine," she sighs. "I guess I can use some help around here."
"Great-"
"Get comfy because you're staying with me until that thing's a dragon again."
"And you say that like its a bad thing?" Midoriya knelt down once more and stroked Kirishima's crazy head of crimson hair. The boy further snuggles into his worn out pillow with a smile. Human or not, he still acts like a precious puppy.
"He's sleeping with you," the witch crossed her arms. "His 'bed' is literally the pillow I stole from my futon. I have a guest hut that you two will be sharing until further notice. Please leave!"
"If that's what you wish," Midoriya grabbed the door handle. "I never got your name Miss."
"(Y/n)."
"Thank you for everything (Y/n)," Midoriya leaves with the biggest smile.
With a great slam from the door, Kirishima woke up and stretched himself out upon the bed. "Everything fine Master?" Kirishima wasn't very worried since he's more than aware that his master is almost always in a bad mood. When he first met her, he could tell that (Y/n) was generally happy more times than none. Everything slowly escalated and now she's basically not as violent as Bakugou but she's almost there.
"You keep causing me problems... You know that?" (Y/n) puffed out her cheeks.
"I do?" He frowned.
"The guy you attacked is now living with us and to top it all off, you're not even aware that you're human. HOW ARE YOU SPEAKING PERFECT ENGLISH!?"
"Because I'm just that manly!"
(Y/n) allowed Midoriya a few days to recover since Kirishima's little attack threw the poor boy's equilibrium on a frenzy not to forget that most of his hearing has gone south. (Y/n) ended up giving Midoriya a potion to heighten his hearing. While he can hear better than he's ever been able to before, now his ears are that of a bat. "You're not very good at making potions are you?" Kirishima wore a half lidded gaze as Midoriya panicked about his ears and tugged on them frantically.
(Y/n) glared at him in return and began searching up an antidote. "You know..." She drawled out as her eyes skimmed the necessary ingredients. Only to groan as she didn't have half of them on hand. "Witches are next to extinct... It's not like I have anyone to tell me what to do." A self taught witch... Yeah... This is all basically trial and error.
"Will I ever become a dragon again?" Kirishima sighed.
"No," (Y/n) sadly admits. "Normally I can perfect a potion within two maybe three days at most. Most transfiguration spells are out of my league... I'm sorry," Kirishima wanted to cry at the news. (Y/n) realizes how horrible he must feel and pets him atop the head. "I like how you look right now anyways Kirishima. Look on the bright side," Kirishima smiled slightly at the news. "Now that you're semi-human, a whole world of possibilities opened up for you. If you don't want to live with me anymore, you're free to leave and live your own life. Go back to Bakugou if you want. I'm granting you your freedom."
With Midoriya's bat ears, he couldn't miss any of that. This witch has a heart of gold afteral...
"No," Kirishima held (Y/n)'s hand. "I really do want to go back to Bakugou. But I'll be patient... I won't give up on you (Y/n)."
"Aw..." Midoriya found the moment priceless and heartfelt.
"And you ruined the moment," (Y/n) turned away from Kirishima.
"I-I'm sorry!!!" Midoriya bowed down over and over again.
"Shut up!" (Y/n) hit Midoriya over the head. "Do you want your ears back yes or no!?"
"Yes..." He sniffled as it felt like he was hit over the head with a hammer.
"Then let me work!!!" She snapped and planted herself within her spell book to do the studying necessary to pull off her next few spells since clearly potions aren't cutting it anymore.
Midoriya knew better than to bother her anymore. She's a stressed out teenager. (Y/n) isn't any different than most other teens like himself and that's why he's holding out hope for her and was so adamant to stick around and work for her for a few days. "I know what I should do," Midoriya mumbled to himself in the corner of the room. Kirishima and (Y/n) found his endless muttering off putting but soon sat that concern off to the side. "H-Hey (Y/n), do you have a kitchen?" Midoriya shy asked.
"There's a wood burning stove outside," she casually answered. "Use Kirishima to light it," (Y/n) blindly waved the boys off.
"C'mon Kirishima!" Midoriya pranced out of (Y/n)'s study to the outside world. Indeed she was right, she literally had a stove on the outside of her hut. "Why out here?" He muttered.
"Because she always burns her food," Kirishima sighed. "If it catches fire, at least the fires outside not inside." Over the last week, he's witnessed (Y/n) burn every meal she prepared. "You have some guts bro... I would've ran away when I had the chance."
"She just needs some help," Midoriya rolled up his sleeves. "I'd be cranky too if I couldn't cook."
"Fair enough," Kirishima sighed. "What are we making anyways?"
"Something my mom always makes whenever I'm upset."
"Which is all the time..."
"H-Hey!!!"
About two hours later, the boys came back into (Y/n) hut to find that she was covered in substances galore. One of her ears was a bunny rabbit's, the other pointy and bat like just like Midoriya's. One of her hands though were the form of well... A dragon's. She's definitely juggling a million different tasks all at once. "H-hey (Y/n)," Midoriya stood behind the witch with his prized creation sitting atop a plate just for her. "I made something for you."
(Y/n) sighed, collapsing atop her podium. "Please tell me it's something edible..." She wept.
Midoriya chuckled, "One hundred percent."
The girl started to lift her head. Midoriya came around the podium and sat the plate down before her. (Y/n)'s eyes traced the delectable goodness of a two tier strawberry shortcake. Those perfectly sliced strawberries, the fluffy icing, how yellow the cake was. She hasn't seen something so perfect in all her life. "That... That's just for me," she couldn't believe a thing, The boys nodded in unison. "But... I've been so rude to you for the last few days."
"Not really," Midoriya gave the girl a fork. "You're stressed, probably have no idea what to do, everything feels hopeless... Sometimes you just need a pick me up."
"That's exactly how I feel," she took off her hat and sat it to the side. The hat hopped up to the podium hoping to earn itself a bite of cake. Except, (Y/n) really didn't feel deserving of the cake. Plus, there's no way she can destroy something Midoriya poured his heart and soul into. "I can't eat it... But I want to so bad..."
"I wanna try it so bad!" Kirishima's entire body was stressed and on edge.
"Here," Midoriya took the fork from the Witch. "Let me feed you then," and thus, he didn't hesitate in piercing the cake and ripping off a piece of spongy heaven. (Y/n) remained absolutely speechless and simply opened up her mouth as he hand fed her.
The sugary icing melting atop her tongue caused her eyes to water. "It's been so long since I've had something this good!!!"
"Glad you like it-"
(Y/n) snatched the fork and immediately loaded it for another round. Except this time, she motioned it at Midoriya. He didn't question it and allowed her to feed him. Wasn't long before Midoriya got himself a fork and they shared. Meanwhile, Kirishima sat on the floor in a near crying fit as he knew he'd never be able to get a single bite. No worries though, they saved him a piece and the dragon couldn't be any happier.
Over the next few days, Midoriya took it upon himself to do all the cooking and cleaning. He even went as far as to alphabetize all of her potion ingredients. Kirishima wasn't really in (Y/n)'s hair anymore as he worked with Midoriya on numerous tasks in hopes of him making another cake. Sadly, Midoriya still has bat ears but he's grown fond of them. He's told (Y/n) on countless occasions that he's fine with his new ears since they're upgrades from the ones before, but she's adamant about returning him back to normal. So much pride...
Finally... Midoriya offered to help (Y/n) study and create those antidotes.
"Dragon transformation..." Midoriya read the page from (Y/n) spellbook with utmost care. "Fifty dragon scales of the desired element and/or subspecies grounded up into a fine dust..." The book went on to talk about the many elements of dragons and the subspecies like hydras, drakes, wyrms, wyverns and more. "Two tablespoons dragon saliva, half cup dragon fruit peel, a pinch of pink pixie dust, two nightshade berries or you can substitute it out for-"
"Gooseberries... I know," (Y/n) began adding all the ingredients but stopped at the final one. Midoriya approached her in curiosity as to what the hold up was. "Nightshade is poisonous... I don't want to kill Kiri," (Y/n) mentions. "But gooseberries don't work."
"Dragons love nightshade though," Midoriya mentions.
"How do you know that?" (Y/n)'s jaw dropped.
"Kacchan used to feed Kirishima them all the time."
"Was he trying to kill Kiri!?" (Y/n) added the nightshade nevertheless and Midoriya went ahead and mixed the ingredients together until it was a fine red slush. The potion actually looked correct for once when all those other times the ingredients remained separated and refused to mix. Imagine if Midoriya wasn't here, she'd continue to mix the potion incorrectly. "Well, we finally can turn Kiri back," (Y/n) admired their work well done. All this time... It was one ingredient. "Alright Kiri, bottoms up!"
Kirishima stole the bowl from Midoriya and scarfed the potion down. He liked the bowl clean and backed up. In moments, Kirishima's entire body was covered in red hot scales and proportions matching that of his dragon form before the incident. "I-I'm myself again," the dragon had tears in his eyes. "Thank you Midoriya and (Y/n)!"
"Dragons can talk..." (Y/n)'s jaw nearly hit the ground.
"Hope you reach Kacchan safely!" Midoriya bid farewell to the scaly beast he's befriended over the last few weeks.
"I'll be back soon enough," Kirishima claimed. He flapped his wings heavily. The heavy gusts of winds had (Y/n) clutching her hat tightly to her head to prevent it from flying away. Soon enough, Kirishima was lifting from the ground, higher and higher he went! Till he finally had his destination in mind.
Kirishima was a dragon again. While it was a beautiful sight, it only caused (Y/n) to frown once more. "I agreed that you were free to leave once Kiri's a dragon again... Once I fix your ears... I'll miss you Midoriya. It was nice having you around these last few weeks."
"Actually," Midoriya went red in the cheeks. "I've told you that I like my new ears. Plus I want to stay here and study with you."
"B-But you aren't a warlock."
"Think again," Midoriya's fingers were crackling with green electricity. "The longer I stayed here with you, the more my hands did this."
"I..." (Y/n) was speechless. She was smiling soon enough and removed her sentient hat from atop her head to place it atop Midoriya's. "You know... It's tradition for a witch or warlock in training to take the hat of their master. Looks like I'll need a new hat," she snickered. "You've really made my life better Midoriya... Thank you."
"Same here," Midoriya leaned into (Y/n)'s side as they continued to watch Kirishima fly away into the sunset.
