Heroes and Explosions | Bakugo Katsuki x Reader
The day was going pretty bad for you. First, you lost your wallet and then you spilled your drink all over your clothes. The only thing that gave you solace was knowing that the day couldn't possibly get any worse than it was already.
Of course, you were wrong.
You just had to be the last one left at work after closing. Your co-workers were willing to wait for you, but no. Being stubborn, you insisted on them going while you finished up a few last things. Now here you were; hiding behind the counter as a villain was currently looting the store, inching closer and closer to the register you were behind.
Sweeping the area with your eyes, you desperately looked for a phone that you could use, but there were none in sight. The only thing you found that could prove to be a little useful was a baseball bat. You were no hero, though, and you certainly weren't about to get into an altercation with someone who wasn't afraid to use their quirk.
The multi-handed villain made no attempt to stay quiet as his several elongated hands swept items off their shelves. You took a quick peek at him from over the counter before ducking back down. He wasn't even disguising his face so you would easily be able to identify him. You gulped nervously.
If you made it out of here alive.
By then, he was so close that you could hear his heavy breathing. He was only feet away from you and he was bound to see you soon. You closed your eyes and mumbled a few encouraging words to yourself before you grabbed the bat. Just as he was about to look over the counter, you rolled to the side so that you were away from the counter and stood on your shaky legs.
"I-I don't want to hurt you," you warned him, shaking the bat with your best attempt to be menacing.
He merely laughed and retracted his six arms back to his body. His dark eyes bore into yours. You could feel sweat trickling down the back of your neck. It was far too obvious that you were scared - more specifically, scared of him.
"Oh, really?" he chuckled. "Tell me, little girl. What quirk do you have that's going to stop me?"
"I, uh..."
You pursed your lips together. You were quirkless and therefore, helpless. There was nothing you could do to this man who could no doubt kill you within seconds. Even so, you weren't going to make this any easier for him.
"Leave the store," you commanded, raising the bat and ready to swing when needed. "Now."
He grinned, obviously amused by your futile actions. One of his arms started extending rapidly towards you. You couldn't tell if he was aiming for your face or for the bat, but it didn't matter at that point. Once you thought he was close enough, you swung the bat. Then something extraordinary happened.
BOOM!
The second the bat made contact with his arm, the whole building exploded. The two of you got blown back by the force. Your body collided with the ground amongst the rubble and a thin trail of blood streaked down the side of your head.
You examined the charred bat that you still managed to keep gripped tightly in your hands. Did you... Cause that explosion? Did you somehow manage to acquire a quirk at such a late age? Your answers were almost immediately answered by a blonde haired boy rushing into the scene, shooting puffs of fire from his hands.
He rushed over to the now unconscious villain and picked him up by the collar of his suit. "This is the last store you rob, asshole," he growled before dropping the man.
You froze when his eyes landed on you. Fear shot through you as he started walking towards you, looking even angrier.
"What the fuck?!" he asked, obviously infuriated. "No one else was supposed to be in the building!"
"I work here," you said before you broke into a series of coughing. The dust from all the broken debris must have managed to get into your lungs after the explosion.
"Well, you better be lucky I got here before he could kill you." He extended his arm to help you stand up which you accepted. After coughing once more, you looked up into his bright, red eyes and gave him a small smile.
"You're the one who saved me?"
"Yeah," he said folding his arms and showing off a cocky smile. That smile was quickly wiped off his face with a hard slap from you. Your hand stung from the impact, but his face was bound to be hurting more than you.
"What the fuck?!" he screamed again, clutching his face and glaring daggers at you.
"You could've killed me with that stupid explosion of yours!" you shouted, your hands balling into fists. "Some hero you are."
He growled. "It's not my damn fault you were here after hours!"
"Isn't it your job to protect all citizens?"
In a fit of rage, he shot a fireball at the wall before turning back to you, breathing heavily. "Can you stop bitching about how I saved you and focus on the fact that you're not dead."
You lowered your eyes onto the charred baseball bat laying on the ground. There was no way you would've been able to defeat a villain with nothing more than a bat. You would've been hurt either way. At least, this way you were injured from being saved.
You opened your mouth to speak again, but before you could, a sudden wave of dizziness washed over you. He didn't even notice what was happening when you fell to the ground, your whole world going black.
* * *
"Wow, Bakugo. You really banged up the poor girl."
"Shut it, Kirishima! I swear it was just a small cut."
"Small cut or not, you should be thankful she's not dead."
"Mr. Aizawa is right! You could've-"
You slowly opened your heavy eyelids, causing a gasp from the three men in the room with you. You rapidly blinked your eyes in an attempt to clear away the white spots in your vision before realizing they weren't spots at all. Everything in the room was white between the walls, the floors, and the gown you wore.
You were in a hospital.
The memories of earlier that night suddenly came rushing back to you. You looked up at the anxious blonde whose eyes refused to look at you. Even without his costume on, you could tell who he was.
"You," you stated in recognition.
"We'll give you two some space," the older man stated as he made his way out of the room, followed by the red-haired boy.
After the two men left the room, Bakugo still kept his eyes averted from yours. He would never admit it, but he did feel responsible (and slightly guilty) for your injury.
"Come here," you told him, motioning to him with your finger. His eyes shot up and stared into your [eye color] ones, a curious look crossing his face.
"What?" he questioned.
"Come here, asshole," you repeated, growing impatient.
"Injured or not, I'll hit you back this time if you slap me again."
Rolling your eyes at his comment, you waited for him to get close enough to you for you to act. Before he knew what you were doing, you wrapped your arms around his body and pulled him into a tight hug. He froze, his whole body growing hot and not because of his quirk.
"W-What the-"
"Thank you," you told him. "Thanks for saving me."
A blush spread across his cheeks before he pulled away and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Yeah, whatever."
For some crazy reason, you secretly hoped that you would need saving again.
