In My Eyes
???: This is rather remarkable!
???: What is it, sir?
A man in a paramedic uniform approached another man clad in similar attire. The man looked astonished at the clipboard in his hand.
Paramedic #1: It's... it's this kid. From the stories, I heard he should be close to death, but he looks completely fine.
Paramedic #2: Did you check his vitals?
Paramedic #1: All good too. I don't know what he did, but-
???: Mr. Paramedic?
They both turned to find a detective. Behind him a concerned group of students.
Detective: They wanted to know about their friend.
Ochaco: Is (Y/n) gonna be ok?!
Paramedic #2: Don't worry kids! Your friend is in stable condition and in fact, seems to be perfectly ok. He only has one serious injury and it wasn't even caused by the villain.
Eijiro: What injury?
Paramedic #1: Your little friend broke his glasses during the conflict. Some of the glass bits managed to get lodged into his eye and the surrounding flesh. We are going to take him to the hospital and see if the doctor can remove it. If it comes through clean I would highly recommend that he get some contacts.
Tsuyu: What if doesn't come through, ribbit?
The paramedics shared a look at each other.
Paramedic #2: Then it is very likely he will lose the whole eye.
Tenya: Mr. Paramedic is there nothing we can do?!
Paramedic #1: Just let the professionals handle it. You'll know of the results in a few days time. Alright, let's go!
Paramedic #2: Alright. Try to get some rest kids. With what you've been through your certainly deserve it.
The second paramedic jumped in the back of the ambulance while the first one with the clipboard jogged to the driver's seat and turned on the siren and lights before pulling out and driving off.
Detective: I truly hope your friend makes it through his surgery. Now I think it is best for you kids to return to class.
The group solemnly nodded and walked off. The news of their two teachers and Izuku being ok was morale lifting, but the news of their friend (Y/n) possibly losing his eye was not uplifting at all. They would just have to be patient
Timeskip
You awoke with a start and leaned up quickly.
(Y/n): Ah!
A sharp pain in your right eye caused you to reach up and softly run your fingers along the bandage. Looking down at your other hand, you could see a bandage wrapped around your wrist as well. A soft red stain coming through the pristine white color. Your left eye scanned the room till you spotted a little red button by your bedside. You pressed it quickly and waited for someone to arrive.
???: Did you need me nurse- oh Mr. (L/n). You weren't expected to wake up for quite a few hours.
The man, presumably a doctor according to his jacket, walked over and pulled a stool over to take a seat by your bedside.
(Y/n): W-What's going on doctor? Why does my eye hurt and where are my glasses?
Doctor: Calm down. Everything is ok. You are currently in the hospital. After the events that took place at U.A, you were brought here for treatment.
(Y/n): Are my friends ok?!
Doctor: they are perfectly fine. No injuries except for one boy who hurt his legs according to the reports. In fact, I would be more worried about yourself.
(Y/n): Why?
The doctor took a breath and stood up walking over to a small sink where he picked up a small plastic cup.
Doctor: Your glasses were smashed during the fight.
He filled the cup with water and then raised it to his lips were he downed it. He let out a sigh and crushed the cup discarding it in a small trash bin.
Doctor. the shards of glass from your right lens lodged themselves into your cornea. You spent several hours in surgery and...
The doctor paused.
(Y/n): A-And...
Doctor: I'm sorry to tell you this Mr. (L/n), but we were not able to save your eye.
The news hit you like a train. Your eye. You lost your eye. Not even to a villain, but your stupid glasses?
Doctor: I know this is hard news to take, but with cooperation from your school we may have a solution.
You glanced up at the doctor with little care in your visible eye. The doctor walked out of the room quickly and after a few moments walked back in.
Doctor: We've brought in a specialist who can help you.
From behind him walked in a girl. She had pink locks under a pair of protective goggles and her yellow eyes had crosshairs of sorts filled with excitement. She smiled at you and you couldn't help, but feel warmed when you saw her smile.
Doctor: This is Mei Hatsume. She is a fellow student of U.A who happens to be in the support branch.
(Y/n): You can help me...
It sounded more like a sentence than a question, but Mei took off anyway.
Mei: Hey there (Y/n)! I heard about your situation and I thought I could put my expertise to the test.
(Y/n): Alright.
Mei reached into a side pocket and pulled out a small orb. She smiled at it before she turned it to reveal that it was an eye. It's pupil staring into your soul.
Mei: This right here can help you out of your jam! This is a mechanical eye I was whipping up for heroes with more vision based quirks, but once I was told about you and with just a few modifications, I managed to create the perfect tool to help you regain your sight! It's also a good chance to test out one of my babies!
(Y/n): W-Wait... test out?!
Mei: Never mind that! I hope you don't mind it, but I modeled it after my own eye, but in the future, I can upgrade it and add so other cool features!
The eye did look like her's. A yellow color with a crosshair. A soft smile spread across your face.
(Y/n): I think it looks beautiful. thank you for doing this for me, but you made it sound like you were pitching an idea to a company rather than a fellow student.
Mei smiled and rubbed the back of her neck.
Mei: It was originally planned to be shown to companies, but thank you for the compliment. It makes me feel good about my own personal set of eyes.
Doctor: Not to interrupt, but do you think we can give Ms. Hatsume's invention a try?
Mei looked at you expectantly as well as the doctor. There was no lying about this. This was extremely risky. Not only could this fail, but there is a good chance it could ruin the vision in your left eye. Were you willing to trust this pink-haired girl and her invention?
(Y/n): Sure. Let's give it a try.
Mei gave a toothy grin in triumph. The doctor smiled as well and walked over to the cabinet.
Doctor: Then we will head to surgery as soon a possible. I ask that you relax Mr. (L/n) so that the medicine will take faster.
He filled a syringe with the medication and applied it to your arm. You could feel the medication spread through the initial area of injection and began to relax your muscles and bring on drowsiness.
Mei: And don't worry!
She looked you in the eye with an excited and intrigued look.
Mei: I'll be helping with the surgery the whole time!
(Y/n): Wait what-
Before you could question it, you had found yourself knocked out and on the way to surgery.
Timeskip.
You opened your eye to find you were in the same room as before. Nothing really felt different, but you could tell there were new bandages on your face and you still felt so very tired. A light squeeze of your right hand alerted you to the presence of someone else in the room. Could it be?
(Y/n): T-Tsu?
You lifted your head and met the gaze of a happy pink-haired girl.
Mei: (Y/n) you're awake!
(Y/n): Mei... I'm happy to see you.
Mei: I hoped you would be able to see too!
(Y/n): Wha-
Mei: The surgery went off without a hitch! The transplant was successful and you could be using my invention by tomorrow!
(Y/n): That's wonderful news! I can let everyone know I'm ok!
Mei: Yep!
(Y/n): How could I ever repay you?
Mei: Hmmm~
Mei looked you up and down and ran her hand that wasn't clutched by yours across your chest. Your cheeks burned red slightly at her feeling.
Mei: For now... let's just say you owe me a favor I can call on at a later date, deal?
(Y/n): Deal.
You yawned and rested your head back. Mei scooted closer so she could still see your face over the mountain of blankets the hospital had drapped over your body.
Mei: I know you won't mind, but the doctor asked me to look after you for the next few days when we return to school. That's ok, right?
You didn't know if it was the remnants of the painkillers or your tired mind itself, but you certainly didn't mind this bright and happy girl looking after you.
(Y/n): I don't mind at all Mei.
Mei: that's good to here. Now rest up so we can leave this hospital together.
You nodded and closed your eyes. Turning your head to the side, Mei gave your hand one more gentle squeeze before you fell asleep once more.
