Regrowth: Part 2 (Hawks)

I felt my eyes starting to open, and I was instantly hit with a massive headache. I looked and saw Hawks was sitting next to me, with his legs to his chest, and was resting his chin on his knees.

"Kid, you're awake." He said happily after he realized I was awake, and turned his body towards me. "Are you okay? Does it hurt? Did I wrap it too tight?"

"What?" I asked and felt my head. There was almost a crazy amount of bandages wrapped around my head. I started sitting up, and I felt like my head was a million pounds.

"Easy, you hit your head harder than I thought." Hawks said, and he helped me sit up. "You really scared me kid, I thought you were going to die." He pulled me towards him and I somehow ended up in his lap. He was holding me as tight as he could to him and made sure to cradle my head.

"It takes more than a little scratch to get me." I told him and pulled myself away. I looked around the room, and saw that his once messy room was actually clean. "How long was I out?" I asked him.

"About an hour." He told me, and I looked up to see that there were dried tear stains on his face. But he wasn't looking at me, he was staring off into space, with a look of horror on his face.

I managed to pull myself out of his lap, and off the bed. I swayed a bit, and I rested my hand on the edge of the bed to steady myself.

"Kid you need to lay down." Hawks said, and I felt his hand on my shoulder. I hit his hand away from me, and started walking towards the door. "W-where are you going?" He asked me, and I held my head.

"Home." I said, and he jumped off the bed.

"No you need to stay here!" He said and tried pushing me back towards the bed.

"Don't touch me!" I screamed at him, and it sent my head in a whirlpool of a mess. He flinched at me raising my voice at him, and walked passed him towards the door.

I grabbed my stuff, and slammed the door on my way out. As much as it made my head throb, I was so angry.

I reached into my pocket and pulled my phone out, before dialing a number.

"Hello?" I heard on the other side of the phone, and I leaned against the wall of the elevator for support.

"Mr. Aizawa, can you come pick me up?" I asked. "I don't know if I can make it back to the dorms by myself."

"What happened?" He asked, and I could hear him moving around on his end of the phone. "Where are you?"

"I'm at Hawk's apartment building." I told him as the elevator slowed down, and opened. "And I just need some help getting back to the dorms."

"I'll be there soon, just sit tight." He told me, before he hung up. I walked over to a bench in the main lobby area, and sat down. Carefully resting my head against the wall.

I closed my eyes, and took some deep breaths, trying to ease the pain in my head.

"Hey there kid, you alright?" I heard and felt a hand on my shoulder. I felt a smile grow on my face, at the thought that Hawks actually came out of his apartment.

But I opened my eyes to see Mr. Aizawa crouched down in front of me. He held my head in his hands and looked at my bandages.

"What happened?" He asked. I must have dozed off a little bit.

"Hawks shoved me." I told him. "And I tripped, hitting my head on a chair."

"That bastard." Mr. Aizawa said, and got up. I grabbed his jacket sleeve before he could walk away towards the elevator.

"Please just leave it." I begged him.

"He's acting like a child." Mr. Aizawa said as he helped me stand up. He held onto me as he walked me out to his car, making sure I was buckled in.

"Well he his a giant man child." I sighed.

"I don't understand why you're still with him." Mr. Aizawa told me and started driving us back to UA. "You're losing creditability staying with him, it's only making it more difficult for you in the long run."

"Well it'll be over soon." I said, and looked over at him.

"You're doing it?" He asked me. He was one of very few people that knew the plan that I had. "Are you sure you're ready to do that?"

"I've been studying it everyday for three months." I told him. "I wish I could go longer, but at this point, it's now or never."

"So you're ready to just drop all of this hard work you've been putting in with him, if it doesn't work?" Mr. Aizawa questioned me, and we pulled into the UA parking lot. "How are you going to get him there anyway?"

"I have a plan." I told him. "I talked to Recovery Girl about it, and I need to go see her anyway." I pointed to my head and carefully got out of the car. "I just hope it works."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I walked into Hawk's apartment with a bag of special goodies. I carefully set it down on his kitchen counter, hoping he wouldn't come see what I was doing here. I carefully prepped everything and had everything set up on his dinning room table.
I took a deep breath before I made my way to his bedroom, and I didn't even bother knocking, closing the door, or really giving a shit at this point.
As much as I cared about Hawks, I was really tired of his bullshit.
I swung his curtains open all the way, completely illuminating his large bedroom, and watched as Hawks covered his face under a pillow.
His room was even worse than it was yesterday afternoon when I had walked in. He must have had an even worse tantrum than usual.
I was just glad I didn't trip on anything this time.
"Get up." I demanded and threw Hawk's pillows off his bed, not allowing anything to be in his reach to hide under.
"Kid." He said happily, and sat up. But when he saw my face, he froze. I was pissed.
Of course I was pissed. I've stood by his side for three months. I've taken care of, babied, cooked and fed, and bathed him for three months. I've treated him like a child because he was hurting, he needed help, and I was the only one that cared.
But I was tired of him treating me like I was nothing.
"Get up." I told him again. "And get your ass out here." I walked out of his bedroom, and sat down at his dining room table. I crossed my arms, as I waited for him.
After a minute, his head popped around the corner and he saw me at his table. He walked towards me, and looked a bit skittish. I hadn't yelled at him before yesterday, and it looked like he didn't know how to handle it.
"Sit down." I told him, and he sat down in front of me, across the table.
"What is this?" He asked and looked at the shot glasses I had set up before walking into his room.
"A deal." I said. "We're going to go shot for shot. And if you can beat me, you get to decide if I go or stay." His head shot up to look me in the eye. He was scared now. "And if I win, you get to do something of my choosing. No arguing, no questioning. You do whatever it is that I want."
"Why are you doing this?" He asked me.
"Because obviously, you don't want me here." I said and he ducked his head a bit. "So either we start doing shots, or I'll just leave now." I said and started getting up. He quickly grabbed the first shot, and downed it immediately.
I sat back down, and took my first shot. A shot of apple juice.
I knew he was an extreme lightweight, and couldn't handle alcohol at all. Mr. Aizawa and some of the other pro-hero's had told me, that he could never get very far before collapsing.
I had a feeling that he might actually try on this, whether it was to make me stay or leave for good. But I needed to win this.
So Recovery Girl and I had talked and came up with the plan that I would pour myself shots of apple juice, while I poured his shots of whiskey with a little extra something special in it. Courtesy of Recovery Girl's medicine cabinet.
This was the only way I could think of, that would get me want I wanted from him.
We took another shot. And a another. And another.
And by the time we were at the fifth shot, he was already swaying in his seat.
As much as I hated that I was doing this too him. It was for his own good. If everything went according to plan, everything should be fine and go back to how things were before.
Hawks went to take his sixth shot, when he fell out of his chair dumping the shot everywhere. And I sighed in relief, that he didn't damage himself too much with the alcohol. But he was still going to be struggling in the morning.
I sighed and dragged him over to the couch. I threw him down and made sure he was set before I walked into his room.
Now that I was getting a good look at his room, it was much worse than I thought that it was.
First I stripped his bed and got his sheets in the wash, before I started picking up everything he had thrown around the room. Then I walked into the bathroom, and I was glad that I was still wearing shoes as I stepped on glass walking in.
I turned on the light, and saw that hawks had punched his giant mirror. Most of it was on the floor or the counter, and the rest of it was covered in a spiderweb of cracks.
He got really upset yesterday.
I swept up the glass that was on the floor, and got it off the counter. I took down the mirror, and dragged it towards the door. I sent it down, and got the first-aid kit.
Sitting down at his coffee table in the living room, I could see Hawk's knuckles were bloodied and bruised. He had hidden them from me when he was awake, every time he did a shot he was quick to get them out of sight.
I bandaged up his knuckles and lightly kissed them, before I walked away from him.
I took a minute to make an order at a restaurant down the street before dragging the broken mirror down to the ground level and throwing it in the dumpster.
After tomorrow, I didn't need Hawks looking in a mirror and seeing before it was ready.
