I started opening my eyes and took in a hard breath. It felt like there was something really heavy on my chest. My eyes adjusted to the room, as there weren't many lights on I was able to adjust to the dark a bit quicker. 

I was in a white room in a bed. There was a machine next to me that seemed to be pumping a liquid into my body. 

I felt something move next to me and looked to see Tokoyami right next to me. I smiled and moved my hand slowly over and brushed my fingers through his feathers, careful to try and not scare him.

He stirred a little bit and opened his eyes. When he saw my hand he quickly lifted his head. 

"Y/n, hey." He said, sounding like he was still half asleep. He held my hand in his and gripped it tight. "How are you feeling?"

"Heavy." I breathed out. He laughed a little and rubbed my arm. "What happened?" 

"You almost died." He told me and Dark Shadow came out to cuddle me. "That giant spider saved your life." He laughed.

"I feel really tired." I told him.

"Probably from the shock, adrenaline, and anxiety." Tokoyami said as he drew little circles on one of my arms. "Y/n I've got something to tell you." He told me and leaned over to grab a remote. He pressed a button on it and my bed slowly started lifting up so I could sit up.

"What is it?" I asked him as he helped me get adjusted.

"When the building came crashing down, and the nomu had a grip on you . . . . ." He started and grabbed the blanket that covered most of my body. "You lost two of your arms." I looked to see that I now only had six arms, and thinking back I could remember the nomu ripping them from my body on the fall down to the main floor. It hurt like hell.

"Is that it?" I asked Tokoyami and he looked at me like I was crazy as I started laughing. Tokoyami and Dark Shadow looked at each other and then slowly back at me, while I couldn't help but keep laughing at their reaction.

"What?" They asked at the same time.

"I can grow limbs back." I told him. "Most spiders can lose and regrow their legs as a defense mechanism. Like a lizard." 

"Of course they can." Tokoyami said as he put his head in his hand. 

"Look." I told him and ripped the bandages away. There were already little nubs that were going to be looking like just a forearm in just a couple of days. "It takes some time, but they grow back." 

"I'm glad you're okay." He told me and he was just kind of staring at my hand as he held it.

"Tokoyami." I said getting his attention. "Are doing okay?"

"Yeah." He told me. "You've just been out for a few days, and I've been worried."

"Worried about little old me?" I asked him and acted surprised.

"Yes." He told me. "I've also been thinking."

"About what?" I asked him. Worried he might want to leave. That after what happened, he's not interested in being friends anymore.

"About us." He said and still couldn't look me in the eye. "About how I felt seeing you like that coming out of the collapsed building. I didn't like it."

He was quiet for a moment. I wasn't sure what to say, so I said nothing.

"And it kind of made me realize that, I really like you." He told me.

"You didn't like me before?" I joked. Not able to help myself with my nerves panicking.

He gave me and look and stood up before sitting on the edge of the bed.

"Of course I liked you before." He told me. "I've known that I've liked you. We're hero's in training, and need to be able to focus on training ourselves to help other people. But after the other day, it made me realize I also want to protect you. You make me want to be the best hero I can be so I can protect you too. There was more I could have done to prevent this."

"Tokoyami, don't beat yourself up over this." I told him and some how managed to pull myself up into a sitting position next to him.

"I'm not." He promised me. "But that doesn't change the fact that I still have a long way to go in the hero course. But I also want to get there with you by my side."

He took all my hands that I currently had and held them as best as he could in his. I tried not to giggle as he struggled to hold my overlapping hands.

"Y/n." He said and I looked him in the eyes. "Will you stand with me through our time in the hero course?"

"What about after?" I joking asked him. He sighed and rolled his eyes a little.

"Will you just stand by my side until one of us gets tired of the other?" He asked and gave me a quick squinted look knowing I could make a joke out of that one too. But I decided not to.

"I would really like that." I told him. He smiled and we both leaned forward until our foreheads touched. I couldn't help but laugh from being happy and my mouths little arms wrapped around his beak.

Me and Tokoyami were suddenly shooken apart and Dark Shadow wrapped around me for snuggles.

"Dark Shadow careful!" Tokoyami yelled and helped me lay back down from the sudden pain in my chest. I held onto Dark Shadow and Tokoyami's hand as the pain in my chest slowly faded. I took a deep breath and looked at Tokoyami. He was annoyed that our moment was interrupted and stayed satisfied with holding my hand.

Guess gross little spiders get happy endings too.
