Fearscape: Part 9 (Bakugo)

I sat in class and I wasn't really doing anything, since Mr. Aizawa gave us a free period. I was reading a book, as I drowned out the sound of everyone else around me.

I jumped as I felt something on either side of my head. I looked up and saw Bakugo was standing directly behind me, with his clothed hands over my ears.

Ever since I had given him my sweatshirt a couple days ago, I hadn't seen him take it off. A couple of different people had griped at him about the dress code, but he just told them to fuck off.

He was now standing behind me as he covered my ears, and I watched as his lips moved with an angry expression on his face.

He was yelling.

I couldn't help but smile and went back to my reading as he held my head in his hands. After a minute or so, Bakugo uncovered my ears and pulled his chair to sit next to me at my desk.

"Yes?" I asked him but I didn't take my eyes off my book.

"Teddy Bear." He whispered to me, and I whipped my head in his direction. He looked a little down, and he laid his head in his arms on my desk.

"What's going on?" I asked him quietly and used my body to block him from everyone else in the room.

He just shook his head and closed his eyes. He didn't say anything, and I took a couple of moments to think.

"Do you want me to read to you?" I asked him. He opened his eyes, and looked up at me. He silently nodded, and I reached into my bag and grabbed the book that I had been reading to him before. "What is the last thing you remember?" I asked him.

He took the book from me, and flipped through the pages until he found where I was just before he fell asleep the last time. We then spent the rest of the period sitting at my desk and me reading to him quietly.

It felt a little weird, as Bakugo's never talked or come up to me before in pubic like this. But I wasn't about to say something now. I know he'd probably be an ass about it, like last time.

The more important part, was that he was searching for help. Even though he didn't directly ask, he asked in the best of his ability.

"Can I ask you something?" I asked him after I finished a chapter, deciding it was the best place to stop for the next time.

"Sure." He said into his arm. He didn't lift his head or open his eyes.

"Why did you cover my ears?" I asked him. He opened his eyes finally and looked at me. For a moment at least before he covered his face more.

"You jump every time I raise my voice." He said just loud enough into his arms, that I could hear him. "Well when anyone raises their voice really. And you flinch a lot."

"What are you stalking me?" I asked him.

"No, idiot." He said and picked himself up and started packing his stuff into his bag. "Just something I picked up when hanging out with you."

"Aww, you do care." I cooed.

"Shut up." He growled at me as he stood up. The bell rang and he walked out of class. I packed up my stuff, and walked out of the class and walked towards my locker to get my lunch. I was in a great mood, but I couldn't pinpoint why.

I opened my locker and pulled out my lunch. I didn't feel like walking all the way back to my locker after lunch for my text books so I switched out my books, and walked towards the front of the school.

It was raining out, so I sat on the steps that were covered instead of my usual bench for lunch.

People didn't like me sitting near them, even if I was there first. I would end up moving to make everyone comfortable. Even though sitting next to me, does absolutely nothing.

It was kind of cold out, due to the rain and wind. So I tucked into myself as tight as I could, to avoid getting too cold.

I started eating my bento box, and jumped when I felt something ice cold on my cheek.

Turning around Bakugo was holding a soda out to me. I took it and he sat next to me, without saying anything.

"Still feeling off?" I asked him. And offered him some of my chips. He took one and just scooted closer to me. "Do you want to talk about it now?"

"There's just a feeling I'm trying to figure out." He said. "I don't really want to talk about it."

"Okay." I said and took another bite of food. "Why are you out here?"

"Why are you?" He questioned me.

"People don't really enjoy my presence." I said. "Except you I guess. And your friends I guess too. They're still a little jumpy though. Not that I blame them."

"Why do you do that?" He asked me and I looked at him. "Why do you just excuse how people treat you?"

"Because I know the pain they've gone through, looking in their eyes I see the trauma they've gone through." I told him. "A lot of it has lead them to be the way they are. You are no different." I said and bumped him with my shoulder.

"I'm not like those extras." He said and I laughed at him.

"You're right." I laughed. "You are the first to not be scared of me. Or at least less afraid of me."

"Please you're harmless." Bakugo laughed at me, and I chuckled a little.

"I can fight." I told him. "I just don't want to."

"How do you not want to fight, when everyone else does?" He questioned me and snatched my bag of chips from me.

"I'm not really about fighting." I told him. "Everyone wants to fight me, to try to balance the effect of my quirk. Like when we sparred. You got scared, and wanted to keep fighting. It's natural to want to fight when your scared, it's a fight or flight response."

"So that just excuses the fact that you let people treat you the way that they do?" He asked and I could only shrug. He wouldn't understand, and I couldn't be upset that he can't. "It pisses me off."

"What that I don't want to harm someone, because they're having a natural response?" I asked him. He just sighed aggressively, and got quiet.

He put his hood up over his head and leaned towards me, and rested his head on my shoulder.

"It's stupid." He griped.

"The stupidest." I agreed, and we both laughed quietly.
