Winging It: Part 2 (Hawks)
I laid in my bed staring at nothing. I grabbed my pillow and squeezed it to my chest curling myself tighter into a ball. A screech comes from my phone, and I breath a small laugh through my nose. It was Kiego texting me.
I grab my phone and look to at his message.
'Yo! Where's my side kick at?'
He texted me, and it made me smile a bit.
Not long after we met, me and him had started gaming together. With him being a Pro-Hero his schedule was pretty tight, but he managed to make time to be able to play with me once a week.
We've been playing together for the past three months, and he liked to call me his side kick. Even though I was usually the one doing most of the work and clutching the rounds. While he was running around like a dumb idiot. But it definitely made, everything more interesting.
'Sorry Kiego, not tonight.'
I texted him back, and sighed.
'Why? What's up?'
'I'm just not feeling that great.'
My phone instantly started ringing. I hit answer and placed my phone down on the bed on speaker.
"Hello?" I said.
"What's wrong?" He asked me.
"I told you, I'm just not feeling well." I said, and a tight ball started forming right at the base of my throat.
"Yeah?" He asked. "What kind of not feeling well? A headache? Allergies? Pneumonia?" He was quiet for a couple of seconds. "Bird flu?" I laughed, and hugged my pillow tighter.
"It's hard to explain." I told him and he was quiet for a moment, and if it wasn't for the noise in the background I would have thought he hung up.
"Is it your depression?" He asked finally breaking the silence.
"How'd you know about that?" I asked him. Since I had met and started playing with him, I had never brought up my depression.
"You talked about it once on stream." He told me, and I thought back to the first, and only, time I had talked about it over my stream. It was really hard for me to talk about, and had gotten really emotional for me and my viewers together. Thinking about it got me teary eyed, just remembering how upset I had gotten over it. "That was the first time I had watched your stream."
"Oh well talk about great first impressions." I joked and my nose had already started getting snotty.
"Are you crying?" He asked me, but I didn't say anything as I cover my mouth. "Y/n?" My eyes widened as he said my name, he was always calling my 'kid'. He used it so much and often I thought that he had forgotten my name.
"Yes." I admitted and I sniffed.
"Hey no crying! I refuse!" He yelled at me, and I continued to breath into my hand.
"Refuse what?" I asked, and laughed a little and I couldn't stop the tears.
"I refuse!" He yelled at me again. "No crying on my watch!"
"Well I'm not on your watch." I told him. "I'm on your phone."
"Then no crying on my phone!" He yelled at me and I laughed, before starting to cry more.
"Look Kiego." I said and took a deep, shaky, breath. "I'm sorry that we can't play tonight, but I promise I'll be back to normal by next week. I'll even let you pick what we play."
"Well gee thanks." He said, and I could tell he was being sarcastic.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, and closed my eyes before taking another shaky breath.
"Hey don't be sorry for a feeling that you can't control." He told me. "You can't control your depression, but you also can't let it control you."
"I know." I said. "It just gets hard some times."
"I know." He said.
"Sometimes it gets so hard." I said, and I had this feeling in my throat. A feeling telling me, making me, need to rant. "That the only thing I can do, is let it go wild. That way it stops. Its never forever, but it still stops. Even though a part of me doesn't want it to stop, because it lets me feel. It reminds me that even when my depression get as bad as this. It reminds me that I still have the ability to feel."
"Take a deep breath." Kiego told me, and I did.
"Depression is so wild and crazy." I said. "And the only thing that I can do, is wing it. And hope I don't turn into a complete mess."
"Well if you do turn into a complete mess." He told me. "I promise I'll be there to help you pick yourself back up. I wouldn't be a Hero if I didn't help those in need, now would I?" And it went completely silent.
"Kiego?" I asked. After a couple of seconds of him not answering I picked my phone up to see that he hung up on me. I dropped my hand and phone to the bed before I closed my eyes, feeling a little better after ranting. But not too much from being hung up on.
There was a loud knocking on my front door, and I moaned. I stayed laying there hoping that maybe whoever it was would just go away and think that I wasn't home. But they knocked again and this time it was a lot louder.
I groaned and pulled myself out of bed and looked at myself in the mirror hanging on the back of my door, to make sure that I looked somewhat presentable. More loud knocking came from my front door, and I walked out of my room.
"I'm coming!" I yelled at the door. "Don't get your damn panties in a twist!" I opened my door and there stood Kiego with his arm against my door frame. "Kiego?"
"Hey there kid." He said, and walked into my apartment.
"What are you doing here?" I asked him.
"Winging it."
