Blindness is Key: Part 10 (Bakugo)
I opened my eyes, and I could smell food being made downstairs. Bakugo still had his arm around me, and I managed to scoot out of his grip and slide off the bed. As soon as my feet hit the floor I could tell that it was still decently early, since it didn't look like anyone was out of bed yet.
I snuck out of the room and down the hall to mine and Mina's room.
"Morning." Mina asked as soon as I closed the door, and I turned towards her.
"Morning." I said, and started digging though my bag for some clothes.
"How was your sleep with Bakugo?" She asked me.
"I didn't sleep with Bakugo." I said, trying to lie.
"Mhm, then why did Kiri send me a picture of you two this morning?" She asked me.
"If I can't see it, it doesn't exist." I told her, and changed into some workout clothes. "Did Mr. Aizawa say where we were going to be training?"
"He said we were going to be working at the beach." She answered, and I froze.
"The beach?" I asked, trying to clarify what she said. "Like, with sand?"
"Yeah." She said and I couldn't help but whine. "What's wrong with that?" She asked and started changing herself.
"I can't see in sand." I told her. "When I step in sand all I see is static. I don't even know if I can control sand."
"Well it's still technically earth isn't it?" Mina asked me and I felt her feet hit the floor.
"Sure it's earth, but it's so broken up and small that I can't see." I told her. "It's not solid piece of earth."
"Well maybe Mr. Aizawa has a plan for your training." She said, and we headed down stairs. Mina guided me down the stairs, and when my foot hit the first floor, I could see almost everyone was awake now and eating breakfast.
"Morning y/n." Kiri cooed, he was on the couch.
"Shut it." I told him, and he laughed. "Mr. Aizawa, can I talk to you?" I asked and sat at the kitchen's bar counter, while he made breakfast.
"What is it?" He asked me.
"Mina told me that we're going to be training at the beach." I said. "And I can't see in sand."
"I figured, which is why we're going to be working on with your other senses." He said, and a plate got place in front of me.
"Oh, fun." I said, not really excited. I started eating the pancake that was on the plate. "I can't remember the last time I had a pancake." I said.
"Whys that?" Denki asked, as he walked into the kitchen. My guess to get seconds.
"Well it's pretty messy, and it's hard for me to flip it without it landing on the floor." I said. "With or without a spatula. I've never actually flipped a pancake in the air before."
"Well come here." Mr. Aizawa told me and I walked around the counter. He took my hand and placed it on the flat pan on the stove and I grabbed it.
"This is not going to go well." I said, and Mr. Aizawa showed me the movement I needed to make to flip the pancake in the air.
"Can you see it on the pan?" He asked and I moved the pan a bit and the pancake moved a bit.
"Yeah." I said.
"Okay, now just flick your wrist a bit and it should be fine." He said and backed away from me.
"'Should', being the key word there." I said, and took a deep breath before I flicked my wrist and I felt the pancake leave the pan. I held my breath until it landed back on the pan and everyone cheered.
"Yay, now can I have my pancake?" Denki asked. I turned towards him and tapped my foot on the ground.
"Hold your plate out." I told him. He did, and I flipped the pancake off the pan and across the kitchen and it landed on Denki's plate. I laughed and put the pan back on the stove, before walking back over to my spot at the counter.
"You guys are idiots." Bakugo said and I felt him step off the stairs.
"Oh come on, that was cool." I said, and sat down.
"Whatever." He said and sat next to me. I smiled and poked his cheek.
"You're not denying it." I sang and he swatted my hand away.
"Alright everyone hurry up and eat, so we can head to training." Mr. Aizawa said and gave Bakugo a plate.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We all walked towards the beach, and I was silent for most of the walk. I wasn't excited to put my feet in sand. Once we were closer, I could feel exactly where the ground ended and the sand started.
I stopped right at the edge, and I could feel the sand that had spilled over onto the pavement under my feet. I also felt as everyone around me disappeared.
"Hey." I heard Bakugo say somewhere out in front of me. "I've got you." He told me, and I reached my hand out and grabbed his arm. I wrapped my hands around his arm tightly, and took it one step at a time.
"I feel so off balance." I said, and Kiri grabbed my other arm and they both led me through the sand.
"Well if it makes you feel better, you're pretty balanced." He said, and I sighed at him trying to make a joke.
"Alright y/n, you ready?" Mr. Aizawa asked and he placed his hands on my shoulders.
"Not at all." I said, and he led me away from Bakugo.
"You'll be alright." He told me and made me sit in the sand. "From here you're going to be right in the middle of everyone training. Today I want you to try and listen to where everyone is, pinpoint who it is and try to hear the distance between you and them."
I nodded and basically meditated as everyone around me fought. I listened as Kirishima got attacked by someone.
"Who can you hear?" Mr. aizawa asked me, he was in front of me. And it sounded like he was at my level.
"I can hear Kiri fighting." I told him.
"Do you know who or what he's fighting?" He asked me.
"Orjiro." I said.
"How can you tell?" He questioned me.
"When you listen to the hits." I said, and paused a moment. To allow us to listen to them. "It's kind of a softer sound. Still strong hits, but softer than skin on skin." I said and smacked my hand to give him an example. "Or I guess, tail on rock." I laughed.
"Good, how far away would you say they are?" He asked.
"I don't know, twenty feet?" I asked.
"More like ten." Mr. Aizawa said and I flinched. "What else can you hear?"
"The ocean." I answered.
"Where is it and how far do you think it is?" He asked. I put my hands just below the surface of the sand and felt completely around me.
"The ocean is behind me." I answered, that I could tell by sound. "I'd say about fifteen feet?"
"Why do you say that?" He asked.
"Well feeling the ground, it's pretty dry." I said. "I don't know the times for high and low tide, but I can imagine you timed this just after high tide so that we would have plenty of room to train in the sand, for an extended period of time."
"Smart girl." He said.
"Was I right about the distance?" I asked.
"Close enough." He said and I smiled. "What else do you hear?" I listened for a moment and laughed after hearing a yell and an explosion.
"I can hear Bakugo." I answered.
"And how far away would you guess he is?" Mr. Aizawa asked me. I thought for a minute and heard him yelling again, before there was another explosion.
"Well at first I want to say he's close by. But . . . ." I say and there's another explosion. "With his loud mouth, and loud explosions. His voice travels a bit farther. Not to mention he's going to be a bit more off to the side, to make sure he doesn't accidentally hurt someone."
"So?" Mr. Aizawa asked and I could for sure hear the smile on his face.
"So I'd say he's out fifty or sixty feet away, probably twenty feet from the whole group." I answered.
"Well done." He said, and I smiled.
"Why is he so damn loud?" I asked and we laughed together for a moment.
