Chapter Twenty-Two

HYUNJIN | FELIX

Reaching school with a few minutes to spare, Han and Hongjoong helped me in carrying the two containers to our lockers. I was excited to share them with the class, eager to see their faces once they had a taste of my creation. Based on the reactions my friends gave, I was sure to impress the other students and the teacher.

While walking, Jake walked up and placed on arm on my shoulder. "Hey."

My body tensed, and with a shakily laugh, I gently removed his arm. "Hi..."

"Did you bake brownies? They smell really good."

"Thank you. It's for my class." I said softly. Hongjoong and Han held the containers close to their chests.

Jake pouted. "So, that means I won't be able to have one huh?"

I don't think I want give you one...

"If I have any leftovers, I'll give you one. No promises." I mumbled.

"Awesome! I hope to try them, then!"

Feigning a soft smile, Jake removed his arm and walked down the hallway in the opposite direction. I finally let out a breath of relief, noticing the other four boys looking at me with concerned faces. It wasn't until we reached our lockers that Wooyoung spoke up first.

"Lixie...do you really want to go on that date with him?" Wooyoung asked quietly.

"Yeah, you looked extremely uncomfortable just now and I don't like it." Yeosang added.

I sighed. "I just want to get through the day...I'll decide on what to do later." Grabbing my books and one of the containers from Hongjoong, I smiled. "Thanks for helping you guys, but don't worry... Han let's go."

Han exchanged looks with other boys before nodding, following me to our home room class. The lingering effect of Jake's arm made my stomach churn, and more and more I realized that I truly didn't want anything to do with him. Maybe it was Hyunjin's words or something else, but calling off the date was the best choice for me.

Stepping inside our classroom, Miss V gasped with delight upon noticing our arrival. "Oh Felix, you made so much!"

I smiled. "I wanted to be sure I had enough to give at least two to everyone."

"Here, put the containers on my desk. You two don't need to hold them anymore."

Yeji walked in behind us with Ryujin, both of them holding two containers of cupcakes each. "Miss V, my friend here is just helping me with my cupcakes. Can I place them on your desk too?"

Miss V smiled. "Of course, of course! There's plenty of space!"

Han and I high-fived each other, turning to Yeji with wide eyes. "You really went all out, huh?" Han asked.

Ryujin smirked. "Of course she did. It's Yeji we're talking about. She told me that Felix over here planned on making over 200 brownies."

"I think she got the number wrong because I definitely said 100." I bit back a giggle.

Ryujin turned to Yeji with a scowl, who in turn had a blush on her cheeks. "Yeji... why did you say 200? We spent all night making that exact amount!"

"I'm sorry! I just went a bit overboard..." Yeji said shyly.

Sure you did...

Miss V laughed. "Well the more the merrier then! I'll let you two give them out after home room, so we all can enjoy during Social Studies."

Yeji and Han smiled while I nodded, all three of us taking our seats with pride on our faces. Hyunjin and Minho entered inside the classroom with nonchalant faces, taking a quick glance at Miss V's desk before making their way to the back of the classroom.

Looking up at him, I noticed he didn't spare me a single glance as he stepped past me to his seat. Only Minho looked at Han and I, giving us sympathetic smiles before following the black-haired male to the back.

Han leaned over to my ear and whispered quietly. "You think he's still mad at you about the whole 'Jake' thing?"

"I have no idea..."

"Alright everyone, as I mentioned before, today is the day I'll be assigning you all your partners for the future semester projects this year." Miss V began to say. "Once again, the partner you get cannot be changed, so don't bother trying to ask. I'll start naming people off now... so we can indulge in the sweet treats Felix and Yeji made for us."

Excited murmurs went around the room, and I could hope for is being partnered with someone other than Hyunjin.

"Wonyoung... your partner is Sumin... Lia...you're partner with Hunter.... Han....partnered with Minho..."

Han grew wide eyed looking at me. "Holy crap..."

"Felix...."

Please not Hyunjin...please not Hyunjin...

"Hyunjin is your partner... Yeji...."

Internally groaning, I slumped in my chair and blocked out the rest of the names being called. It wasn't until a few minutes past that Miss V completed her assignment list.

She smiled. "Alright! So, Felix and Yeji will allow you all to come and take one or both of their treats to eat, and after we're all done, I want you all to sit with your new partners. This will be the new seating arrangement for the rest of this semester."

As if things couldn't get worse...

"I'm sorry, Lix..."Han said softly. "Just try and bear it."

All I could do was nod before standing up to walk towards the front of the class, Yeji following behind.  Both of us opening our containers with a smile, one by one, students began coming up to have their pick of desserts. However, the only person who remained seating with Hyunjin.

Minho walked up to me and grabbed a brownie with a subtle nod, taking a bite into it. I watched as his eyes grew wide and a small smile grew on his face. "This is actually really good..."

"Why isn't Hyunjin coming to get one? I thought he loved brownies?"

He sighed, taking an extra one instead of answering first. "I think you know why, Felix..."

My heart sank, but I masked the feeling with a forced smile. "Got it. Well, take two then. Just in case."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I am."

Minho smiled, grabbing two as instructed before making his way back to his seat next to the stubborn male. The two of us held eye steady contact, and in that moment, I realized why the true reason why I didn't want to go on the date with Jake anymore.

I think I like Hyunjin...
