~5 Years Later~

Today is the day that I'll be joining the cadets. I entered the training ground and dressed into the uniform they gave me in he changing rooms. We all stood in lines looking straight ahead.

That's when a bald man with a hard stare came out and started to pace in front of the front line. The bald man started to shout at all of us.

"WELCOME TO THE 103RD CADET CAMP. IM KEITH SHADIS AND YOU WILL COME TO HATE ME! IF I HAVE DONE MY JOB CORRECTLY, YOU WILL WAKE UP WITH A COLD SWEAT REMEMBERING ME!" He screamed at us. He walked in front of my short frame.

"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?" He shouted in face spitting on me a bit. I inwardly winced at this.

"(Y/N) (L/N) FROM SHINGANSHINA, SIR!" I yelled while putting my right hand over my heart and my left behind my back into a perfect salute.

"WHY ARE YOU HERE (L/N)? TO JOIN THE MP AM I CORRECT?" He roared into my face.

"NO SIR! I AM HERE TO JOIN THE SCOUTS AND AVENGE MY WHOLE FAMILY'S DEATHS AND HELP HUMANITY OVERCOME THE TITANS, SIR!" I yelled still keeping my straight face. He seemed a LITTLE impressed that I was joining the Scouts.

"THAT'S GREAT TO HERE! YOU WILL BE A GREAT APPETISER!" He bellowed moving on. I smirked at his comment.

'Oh, if you think I'll be an appetiser, you'll have another thing coming.' I thought. I may be quite short but I am stronger than I look. Shadis went around to the rest of the cadets making a few of them cry. A few tried to hide their laughter and failed when Shadis started to yell at them.

We were dismissed to the mess hall after being told that we were going to be practicing 3DMG tomorrow. I sat down beside a girl who had medium length blonde hair and dazzling green eyes.

She's one of the people who wants to join the MP, if I remember. In fact I was the only one in my whole class that wanted to join the scouts. She looked at me and I smiled warmly at her.

When I was in the centre of Wall Rose, I realised that I should be a lot nicer to people because life is way too short, well in my position it could be. She returned the smile to me and waved her hand slightly while introducing herself.

"I'm Opal! Nice to meet you!" She said holding her hand out. I shook it and smiled again.

"I'm (Y/n) (L/n). Nice to meet you Opal!" I replied gently.

"So you wanna join the Scouts, huh?" She said making conversation. She already knew why I was going to the Scouts but  no one knew about the promise I had made with Scott and Lucinda.

"Yeah. You're aiming for the MP, right?" I asked.

"Yeah. We get three square meals a day and we get to live in the interior!" She said confidently like she knew she was going to be joining already. I chuckled at her.

"So where are you from?" I asked her while I took a sip of the bland soup.

"Dauper Village. One of my best friends is joining the cadets next year! Where are you from?" She asked curiously.

"Shinganshina..." I said quickly. Her eyes went wide.

"Did you see the colossal Titan?!" She asked rather loudly getting everyone's attention. She covered her mouth and looked at me with apologetic eyes.

"Yeah I did." I said as I stood up and left not wanting to relive my horrors of the countless bodies I passed by. My parents bodies, Scott's body, and Lucinda getting eaten right before my eyes. I went into my dorm and got dressed for bed. My eyes fluttered shut as soon as my head hit the pillow.

~Dream~

I was in Shinganshina again. Looking around, I saw the ruins of squished houses and the never-ending dead bodies. I turned around after hearing very loud thumps right behind my ant-like figure.

I felt immense pressure around my waist and realised that this beast was going to eat me. I looked down and saw my family, Lucinda and Scott's bodies. I was completely still. I wanted to move but my body wasn't following my orders. I felt the other hand grasp my upper body.

It started to pull.

My body was being ripped in half and I felt it. I felt my skip ripping apart as my organs were waiting to be spilled out. Blood seeped into the hands and my clothes. It gave a hard tug and I was apart. My eyes slowly closed and the last thing I saw was the yellow, blood-stained teeth opening wide for me to enter.

~Dream over~

My eyes shot open and I sat up quickly. Sweat trickled down my forehead as I clutched onto my clothes. I looked down, checking to see if I was still in one piece. I sighed in relief and checked the time. It was time to get up anyway. I saw Opal looking at me worried.

"Hey (Y/n)? I'm really sorry about yesterday..." She said with concern lacing her eyes. I suppose I was rude yesterday.

"No it's fine. It was a mistake." I said hugging her taller body. She laughed and hugged back, breathing a sigh of relief.

We went into the mess hall and had breakfast. When breakfast was over we walked outside to the contraptions for balancing. I was one of the first to set up for balancing.

I was being set up and I noticed that the way you have to balance yourself is that if you separate your body weight evenly, you will balance. I was being lifted and followed my theory and I was completely still. Everyone seemed to be shocked at how I got it the very first try. I was let down and a few more people started to get balanced after their first few attempts.

~2 Years Later~

We were out running in the forest with big heavy bags on our backs. Opal and I were at the very front. No one was even close to catching up with us. Opal and I have become very close with each other over the months.

I get along with the others well. I've been tagged as "The Nicest Badass In The Whole Camp.' I actually liked that title because it was one of my goals to be a nice person.

No one has ever seen me cry and it was very rare to see me without a smile on my face. You may think I'm too nice but I smile to also hide the constant pain and heartache I get from my terrifying nightmares.

When we got back from the "warmup", Opal and I went to our room. We were getting changed and my 'promise' bracelet was exposed but she had seen it already. She never asked about it and j was grateful for that.

"Can I ask you something?" She asked kindly but shyly. I nodded in response smiling, as always.

"Why do you always wear that old bracelet?" She asked pointing at the old string fabric on my wrist. In an instant my smile disappeared. I decided to tell her about my two friends and our promise.

"It's a friendship bracelet. Before Wall Maria fell I had two friends, Lucinda and Scott. Lucinda was very kind, tall and had the most amazing short brown hair. She also had the biggest brown eyes. Scott was medium height and had silky black hair and crystal blue eyes. When we were young we made a promise to each other that we would see the outside together, so we made friendship bracelets as evidence of our promise to each other. They both died along with my family during the catastrophe of the wall falling. I still have to keep my promise to them and see the outside world, for them....and for me." I said tearing up. I sniffed and wiped my tears away. Opal gave me a sympathetic smile.

"You're doing the right thing, you know that?" She said patting my back. I smiled back at her and I soon went back into my spirited self.

~1 Year Later~

Today is the day of graduation. We were all lined up in our positions. I had placed first and Opal was second. Although Opal was overjoyed I was uneasy because I was joining the Scouts. We were choosing our regiments tonight because the cadet group below us was really big and the camp was overcrowded. We were dismissed to go to the place where we chose our regiments. Opal and I turned to each other as we got into where the Scouts were to go.

Commander Erwin of the Scouts came out and introduced himself to everyone. When he had finished his speech, it scared everyone, including me. He told the people who wished to be in other regiments to leave. Opal turned to each me as people were quickly leaving.

"I guess this is goodbye, (y/n)." Opal said holding out her arms for a hug.

"Yeah it is. I'll miss you Opal. Have a good life in the MP." I said as she gave me a quick hug and left. As I expected, I was the only one left and all the squad leaders and Erwin seemed to be surprised that I stayed.

"That's a surprise the person who was ranked first stays." The commander said. He seemed to be proud at least.

"Cadet. I respect your decision greatly. You have my utmost respect." He said while saluting me. I returned the salute and smiled at him.

'This it it. This is the new me' I thought triumphantly.
