The pregame personalities are simply less exaggerated versions of themselves because the producers wanted the accentuated personalities to make their show more interesting.

Part of the exaggeration was done with intention of making the personalities more fitted for the ultimate talents appointed to the contestants.

Another change is that the contestants requested certain changes to make themselves the more idealized versions of themselves, though Team Danganronpa probably took creative liberties with their personalities and fake memories as well.
