Break Her Heart

Kai

I stayed at the cafe, in the staff room. Hanon didn't want to risk anything and didn't let me stay outside. It was a pretty popular cafe and it had many customers.

I saw Cameron coming to the staff room to take his break. He stayed very far away from me and didn't even look at me.

"Cameron"

"Yes!?" He hurriedly turned to me.

"I am sorry for what happened with you and Isaac"

"It's okay" He looked down.

"Everything is taken care of regarding him, so you don't need to worry, but there is a possibility my father will contact you"

He widened his eyes, "Well, I'll act like nothing happened" He rushed to say.

"No"

"What?"

"Don't do that. It's dangerous. He'll offer you money to tell him about me and help him take me. If you refuse, he will threaten you"

"W-well, I-"

"It's a lot of money, Cameron, and the threat is too big. Don't refuse"

"So what do I do? Do I just tell him?" He frowned.

"Yes, but you will tell me about everything that happened too"

"Ohh so I'll be like a spy?" He seemed almost excited.

Oh, you have no idea what people you'll be dealing with.

"Whatever you want to call it, but don't refuse. Tell them everything about me. Help them"

"Why are you doing this? You definitely don't care about me" He chuckled.

I smiled, "If you don't help them, they might try to get to Hanon"

"I knew it. Of course you're not doing it for me" He sighed.

"I want them to get to me before they can get to her. They will get to me eventually either way"

"But you won't tell Hanon, will you?"

"No. You won't either." I gave him a serious look.

"I won't!" He nervously said.

"And if you continue to work with her even after they get to me, please, take care of her"

"I'll try"

"But if you touch her or do anything to her, I will cut your hands off and force you to eat them"

He stayed silent at first.

"Got it" He eventually mumbled.

"And something else you need to know"

"Yes?"

"After you've told them everything, you are considered theirs. They might make you do more stuff"

"Y-you don't mean kill people right?" He asked, almost trembling.

"No. They won't take you for that" I glanced at his physical appearance. He was pretty thin and looked weak.

"Hey, I'm stronger than I look" He glared at me.

"Sure. Anyway, what I mean to say is, you might curse me for putting you in this mess, but the truth is, they would get to you just like they did with Isaac. However, now that we're on good terms, you will not end up like him"

"What do you mean?"

"Cameron, if you stay loyal to me, you will be able to get out of this mess unharmed and keep the money you will get in the process. Once this is , will also compensate you"

"So, you have a plan" He crossed his arms.

I nodded.

"And how are you sure it won't fail?" He raised an eyebrow.

"This plan can't fail. There is nothing that can happen that will prevent the ending of this"

"This sounds a bit scary"

"It won't be scary for you if you don't betray me"

"I see. Okay then, you have a deal" He held out his hand.

I looked at it with distaste. He cleared his throat and retreated his hand, "You don't like shaking hands, got it"

I hate touching anyone that isn't Hanon.

"I'm glad we talked about this. Now go and help, Hanon"

"Got it, boss"

I rolled my eyes.

_______

"So how did you talk it out with Isaac?" Hanon asked as we cuddled on the couch.

She was sitting on my lap, sideways.

"Oh, I just told him the truth"

I left out the part where it was a bit violent.

She nodded, "He was very stupid to think he would get what he was promised so easily"

"Yes. My father has a way with words and can lure you right into his trap. He didn't know he was being used"

"But still, what is he going to do now? Did you help him?"

"What would you want me to do?" I asked her.

I already knew the answer.

She seemed anxious about what I did,"Help him"

I smiled and stroked her hair, "Yes, I helped him, Hanon. I told him what to do so that he would be safe but also not a direct threat to us"

She smiled at me and snuggled closer to me, "Thank you"

"I hope you're not as stressed now"

Her smile faded and she sighed, "I wish I wasn't"

"What is it this time?" I cupped her cheeks.

"You're only buying time. How long until your father gets to you? He can probably do it right now but is dragging it to intimidate you"

My Hanon. So smart.

She's really perfect.

I couldn't help but chuckle, "Yes. That's right" I stroked her cheeks.

"What are you laughing at?" She asked with a serious expression and gently pulled away from my touch, "Is it funny to you? What is there to laugh about?"

But as serious as she was about this, I was too busy being happy to be with her to care.

There were many moments like this. Moments where my emotions took over me and I couldn't think of anything else but her.

"I love you, Hanon"

"Are you making fun of me?"

"No, I would never"

"Then what is it? Why are you ignoring what I'm saying? Is it that you don't want to acknowledge it?" She sounded hurt and her eyes were glossy.

My poor, sweet girl.

"As much as you try to ignore it, it's true"

Now her tears were falling and each tear she shed felt like a knife to my heart.

"Why are you crying? I'm here. I'm still here. Nothing has happened yet"

I tried to wipe away her tears, but it only got worse.

"Yet?"

She buried her head into my chest and started quietly sobbing.

"I'm sorry" My voice came out as a whisper, but she didn't react.

"You promised you wouldn't leave" She mumbled.

I lifted her face off my chest to see her. Her eyes were red and she was still crying.

"I won't leave you"

I'm sorry. I'm a liar, I'm so sorry. Please, forgive me.

I kept whispering the same words to her over and over to calm her down.

'I won't leave you'

'Don't cry'

'I'm here'

Even though I knew they were lies, I was only hoping that when the time came, she would forgive me.

Eventually, she fell asleep in my arms. Her face looked sad and pained even in her sleep. I smoothed out the frown in her eyebrows and kissed her forehead, hoping she would have a good dream.

_______

When Cameron saw me at the cafe a few days later, he quickly walked towards me.

"You were right"

He was almost trembling. He had bags under his eyes and looked very stressed.

"They reached out to me"

I smiled bitterly. It was a bittersweet feeling.

Why did it have to be so fast? Can't I have a few more days.

"Tell me what happened"

"Basically, a guy approached me under my apartment building. I was scared shitless. I thought I would faint"

"Go on"

"He showed me a picture of you. Asked me if I've seen you around. He offered me money when I hesitated and told me to answer carefully"

"You told them, right?"

"Yes, why? Didn't you tell me to!?" He looked scared and panicked.

I laughed, "Yes, don't worry"

"Why are you laughing? These guys seem so dangerous. I thought it was only one at the beginning, but there was a whole gang behind him waiting"

"So tell me, what else did they tell you?"

"Well, I told them you're a friend of mine and they asked me to bring you to a specific location. They said to make sure it's not suspicious"

"Very well. When will that happen?"

"I told them to give me two days"

"So it's tomorrow"

My smile faded.

It really happened so quick. I wish I had more time.

But on the other hand, I was grateful, because the more I stayed with Hanon, the more I wanted to stay forever.

"Yes, tomorrow night"

"Alright. Thank you" I tried to give him a smile, "Don't be scared now. Everything is going as planned and you're safe"

He let out a sigh, "I hope so"

Hanon walked to us not long after our talk, "What are you two talking about?" She asked with a smile.

"I don't know. I'm not listening to him" I tried to behave like I always did.

"Hey" Cameron acted offended.

Hanon chuckled, "I'm glad you're getting along"

"I'll be going now. My break is over" Cameron announced, standing up and then left the staff room.

Hanon sat beside me, "I'm sorry, I'm keeping you in here. I told the others to not talk to you because you don't like to talk. I hope they haven't bothered you"

"Don't worry. Anyone who tried was ignored" I smiled.

She rolled her eyes.

"Hanon, what do you say we go out today?"

Her eyes lightened up, "Out?"

"Yes, let's go to the city and walk around. We can eat something too"

"That's a great idea!" She beamed, "Wait, but I'll have to go home and change-"

"No need. Let's go just like this"

She frowned, "What's the hurry?"

"If you go home and see how cozy the bed looks, you might decide you want to sleep instead"

She giggled, "You're right. Okay then, we'll go out right after my shift ends"

"Thank you" I smiled at her.

My beautiful girl. The only light in my life. My Hanon.

I only have one day. I want to make it special.

________

"We haven't done this in days" Hanon smiled holding her ice cream, "Thank you"

We went to a quiet spot where there were no people and sat at a bench.

"I didn't do anything"

She looked up at me with shining eyes full of love, "I'm just glad you're here with me"

Normally, I would be ecstatic to hear this, but this time I felt like I wanted to get down on my knees and apologize.

I held back my feelings and mustered up a smile. Maybe this was my chance to thank her.

"I am the one that's the most thankful. Who knows where I'd be without you"

She looked down, her smile fading, "I am the reason you were thrown out in the first place"

"What?" My eyes widened.

"Didn't he throw you out for treating your wounds?" She asked, but it seemed like she already knew.

How does she know this? I faintly remember seeing her face right before I fainted, but I thought I was seeing things.

"And you stupidly defended me and even threw a chair at him to make him angry so that he wouldn't come after me"

She wasn't looking at me, but she seemed angry. Anger mixed with sadness was written all over her face.

"Why did you do that? Why did you do something so stupid?" She finally looked up at me with sad eyes.

"Is that why you took me in? Because you felt guilty?"

Her eyes widened, "No!" She said firmly, "I couldn't continue working for this person after that and of course I couldn't leave you like that. I cared about you even back then, Kai"

"You did more than enough. What I did was nothing"

"You were beaten until you fainted and then was thrown out of your home. What about this is nothing?"

"But it was worth it" I smiled at her.

It was so, so worth it.

"I'm still the reason that happened" She lowered her head.

I cupped her face, "I would do it a thousand times again if it meant I could be with you"

"Don't say that" She shook her head, "I would never want you to do that"

"I'm sorry" It came out of my mouth without thinking.

She frowned,"What do you mean? Why are you sorry?"

"That I said that"

She smiled, a little embarrassed, "I'm sorry. I'm just overthinking. I don't want to lose you"

God, Hanon.

I gulped nervously.

How am I supposed to leave and break her heart? I promised.

"You know. Everyone I've ever loved left me. I only have you and I'm scared you'll also be taken away from me"

Enough. Please.

"Let's not talk about sad things, okay? We're together. I'm here" I stroked her cheeks.

"You're right"

She leaned her head against my palm, then turned and kissed it, "Can I have some of your ice cream?" She asked.

I looked down at the cup with ice cream. It wasn't completely melted yet, but it had definitely melted a little, "Yes"

She opened her mouth, waiting for me to feed her. I took the plastic spoon and put it in her mouth. She kept her eyes on me as she wrapped her lips around the spoon and sucked it to get the ice cream.

The visuals were driving me crazy. Just moments ago, I wanted to cry at her words and now I felt like I would get hard any minute.

She had complete control over my mood and my emotions.

When she was done, I leaned in and kissed her cold lips, tasting the ice cream. I sucked on her tongue like she had done with the spoon.

"Can we go home, Hanon?"

She smirked, looking at my lips, "Okay"
