A neighbor gave us a box of grapefruit, way more than we could consume on our own, so I took some of them to work. I often see some homeless folks in the area around our office building, so I was hoping to distribute the fruit.

As I walked around looking for them, I came upon a white-bearded guy with no legs in a wheelchair. He was inching himself down the sidewalk, a total snail's pace, so I crossed the street, said good morning, and asked him if he wanted a push. He said yes.

"Where are you headed?"

"Denny's"

Denny's? A-mile-away Denny's?? Are you KIDDING me? was what I thought. But I said, "Okay," and began pushing him.

Half an hour later, we arrived, and my hands were so sweaty I could barely grip the wheelchair. But we got there. Thank goodness it was 7am, or I might have melted into a puddle.

And he didn't want any grapefruit. :-/
